NAU Game Thread

I think you are right Obzerver, we would have all we could handle with Cookus in the game.

I don't know, it seems like they improved when their back-up came in. But I'm no QB expert... just looking at some stats that I may or may not fully understand :)

Yards/completion:
Cookus: 6.8
Bridge-Gadd: 8

TDs/INTs
Cookus: 0/1
Bridge-Gadd: 3/0

Rushing
Cookus: -23 (that stat may include the missed snap at the start of the game, so that muddies things up a bit)
Bridge-Gadd: 33

Yards Passing
Can't get too much out of this one since Cookus only played ~1 quarter.
Cookus: 54
Bridge-Gadd: 231

NAU's Drives
Bridge-Gadd had three drives not resulting in any points vs. Cookus' four drives not yielding anything.
Interception (Cookus)
Missed FG (Cookus)
Punt (Cookus)
Punt (Cookus)
TD (Bridge-Gadd)
Punt
FG
Punt
FG
Punt
TD
TD

Not saying our D didn't play good nor that their backup Bridge-Gadd(UW transfer) didn't play good cause I even said after he starting playing I wish Cookus would come back in. But Cookus is on Walton Payton Award watch list and is widely considered one of the best QB's in the FCS. I started to go back at all of our Payton watch list QB's from years past. I was amazed at stats where they started slow and then played lights out...specially at home. Lost count at the number of times that happened, there's a reason they are on that list. I believe that was one reason Butler had such low numbers cause his QB was out for 3/4 of the game. Plus outstanding defense I hope.

I just had a few thoughts on the game and respect you alls opinion on this board. Sam McPhearson in my opinion is a extreemly hard running power back makeing a lot of yards between the tackles.71 yards for a power back to me is a really good game , makeing the 94 yard run iceing on the cake. When we get the shifty and speedy Custer back we will have a great combo. The other thing I was so impressed with it seemed there was confidence to be able to convert 3rd and 2 on the ground. I realize that Eastern is a high powered passing offense and I really like that, I just like what I see as a big improvement in run blocking. It takes time to improve strength of the O lineman in the weightroom. I feel that our O lineman are starting to look more like NDSU's O line and they deinitely control the LOS. I realy like the new weight coach, for I think it will go a long way in takeing pressure off the QB to always be on with the passing game late in the season when the weather is bad. I just like the "Best Express" approach towards a balanced attack.

It's coming together. McPherson usually runs a little more heads up so gets extra yards an many of his carries. Think the altitude really had an impact on production in the middle of the game before the team caught it's second wind. OL was dominate early. Decision making can also be effected negatively (more penalties?). Quick start was critical. I thought the team played really well, D handled the curve ball with the running QB and game plan change. Anyone doubt that on a neutral field at sea level Eastern wins 9 out of 10? That elevation is a heck of an advantage.

Regarding Number 20s perfect 94 yard "touchdown" run, compliments are also in order for the Play Call perfectly matched to the expected formation, and for the two or three perfectly timed blocks by our offensive linemen. Pop! And McPherson's gone. Multiple instances of combined perfections lead to referees signaling, First Down or TOUCHDOWN. That's great football. Love our Eags!!!

Im a fan of mental toughness, physical toughness, thats why I like Army Rangers. This team has a Ranger quality to it! When you have 3rd down and 2, and the OL charges the line of schrimmage and QB barks out the signals, the lineman set their fists in the mud, the tail back is like a cat redy to go. Theirs no question when the ball is snapped if we will get the 1st down, but how far will we drive the DL down the field! God I love this TEAM!

Double Roger your Ranger comments IdaEag92. Discipline. Eagle confidence and decisiveness have converted many Eagle 4th downs into 1st downs and touchdowns; must drive opposing defenses nuts.
