No more red shirting. 5 years to play 5 seasons. Clock starts when you enroll or turn 19. At least that is the way I understand it. I'm sure that there will be provisions for missionaries, military service, medical hardship and the like. Those who just finished their senior year will not get another year, as I understand it, Those who just finished their junior year would have two years left to play. It's likely to be challenged in court by some of those seniors.
My feelings on the subject are that it is a step in the right direction. The average student is taking over 4 years to graduate and adding the fifth year is more realistic. This may have an effect on HS seniors who may be looking at a prep school. Not sure how all of this will change the dynamics of it all, in the relationships with Preps and JCs.
