NCAA growing a back bone?

Probably not, but there have been some interesting things happening around the NCAA.

For one, NCAA considering uniform rule enforcement in 2026 for D1. I for one, like it. I feel a team is exactly that. A team, not individuals who dress however they want just to look cute. NFL doesn’t allow it.

NCAA targets exposed calves in latest proposed college football rule change

This has nothing to do with the NCAA, but how about Cincinnati suing QB Brandon Sorby for $1MM after transferring. That’s not the only school suing players over contractual obligation. This looks like the beginning of athlete-as-employee litigation. Coaches are quitting over these things and now it looks like schools are getting tired of it. Could it be the start of the NIL tighting?

Let's hope so. NIL is one thing, but what they really need to get control of is the transfer portal. I understand things like coaches leaving, etc, but when you have players transferring 4 or 5 times that's crazy. Limit it to one transfer and then put in a "coaching clause" for a max of 2 transfers. That's completely reasonable.

Uniform stuff is nice and all, but they need to get a handle on NIL. It's not surprising to me that we're now seeing these sort of "breach of contract" type law suits. Operating like a business at the supposed "amateur" level opened up all of this.

The uniform thing just seems like a distraction from tackling the real issues. Smoke and mirrors.
