DIdn't see anything on this here yet... 6'4'' G Christian McDonald from Oregon has committed, according to his twitter feed.

Anyone know anything about him?

I'm going to say that the kid is a preferred walk on. Most guys being asked to join teams in July are guys who are solid DII/NAIA/JUCO guys, if a team is willing to tab you, this late in the game, they are signing you to be a punching bag and to play on the scout team.

Still...nice find Jon.

No matter...Christian is good enough to play for the Cats in some fashion and that is a hell of a lot better than me. So congratulations and welcome to Ogden.

Great call Tal, I bet you are right on him being a preferred walk-on, especially this late in the game, and he doesn't seem to be very high profile. Plus, I'm not sure WSU had any scholarships remaining. Hopefully he can stick around for 4 years and at least get a good degree and play a little ball.

Maybe compliance can chime in here with additional information. I have heard, in the past, that if a walk on uses a second year of eligibility, they must be counted as part of your scholarship total, if they are on a grant or not. That is why you almost never see them for a third year, unless they have actually earned an athletic scholarship. Usually, we see a red shirt year first, a second year if they show potential, and then they either earn a spot or are gone the next year. At least, that is how it was in the past. Things may have changed.

Walk on players have made the team over the years. Sometimes, kids are just late bloomers. You never know what might be within their ability or in their hearts. I wish them all the best. :thumb:
