New HC Blind Hopes and Wishes

I don't think Coach Marion is too concerned about leaving Dr. Wood high and dry. The first time I met Marion he made it clear that he was here because he believed in Wood's vision and if he delivered there would be no reason for him to leave anytime soon. Completely supposition on my part, but I believe if the president doesn't deliver Marion will take his Go Go brand and leave for the next opportunity...and there will most definitely be one.
Commitment to Dr. Wood or not, a successful season will open up a lot of major offers for Coach Marion. He's already been at some pretty big programs so he's a known name which will only grow in stature if this team can come close to expectations this season. He'll do better than a MW level program and will bail in a heartbeat for a mid to lower tier P4 program, one of which will no doubt throw a serious bag at him to make him their next head coach.

If it plays out that way, I'm not too worried about hiring the next head coach so long as the commitment to funding levels is still in place by Hornet admin. As D1 athletics continues to morph into minor league professional sports, it's all about funding more than anything else. Funding for a qualified coaching staff, funding for "revenue sharing" to lure highly talented athletes in free agency, other operational budget funding, etc. But until we get to that point, we should all sit back and enjoy the show this season as win or lose it should be spectacular entertainment.

He has put it 2ft away from your face. 'One good year can change your life', it is his mantra and code. If he has a good year, he is gone.
If we have a smart administration? I think ORR has done great, he gave Marion a $750K salary probably at hears 3 yrs.
That’s a nice buyout back into our budget for the next great Head Coach!!

IRONIC - I saw a post on X Montana state HC Vigen had Troy Taylor hanging around on the sidelines of practice.

Goes to show you not much loyalty these days. I’d thought w his SAC roots of family and best friend Kris Richardson he’d come cheer the hornets!

GCM...I was wondering how long it was going to take someone to post this...and yet there are going to be people act surprised and pissed off when he leaves after a year.
If somebody offers him $2-5M season he’s gone. Just like any smart HC would do.
Sac State having another 1-2 seasons of championships and playoff runs would be great as we line up w CFB realignment

That's funny that you think Orr had anything to do with hiring Marion. Dr. Wood handled the hiring process and is the only reason Marion is here.

I know this is REALLY early… but, does anyone feel these two games have shown that it’s likely Marion won’t be one and done with the Hornets? Not to say that if the Hornets go 10-2 and into the playoffs someone could possibly be interested, but I think between the no show in week 1 and very questionable decision making in timely moments, there’s still a lot to be desired for his ability as a head coach versus a successful coordinator/recruiter.

This thought crossed my mind as well. Still way too early, but the growing pains have certainly been a reality check for everyone. Too many reality checks for Hornet Athletics these days, in all facets. We need some good news, continuity and something positive to point to, soon.

The 0-2 start regardless of the level of the opponent never looks good.
The SDSU we didn’t have an offense / OL to win that game. Strong D shut them down.
Nevada was much better performance. We should have won that but too many mistakes. Unless he runs rest of Regular season undefeated then gets a deep playoff run I don’t think he will be bought out to leave the Hornets.
Might take him 2-3 seasons like Coach Taylor with the consistent similar success which we all want as well

We'll see how this season shakes out, but he's only 2 games into his head coaching career. Coaches make bad decisions all the time, the key will be seeing if Coach Marion learns from it. Also I think you are underestimating moves made in desperation by FBS ADs looking to make a splash/save their job. The coaching carousel wilds out every offseason.
