New offensive X factor - Doug Steele

You are right bigbluebear!! I had a knee jerk response after watching Morris but I am not giving up on him yet. Yes, we miss Jace Davis but this entire team does not seem to be clicking on all cylinders yet and am patiently waiting for them to bust out. The QB situation needs to be straightened out asap!!

Looking at the stats, it doesn't seem like we have used tight ends for anything except blocking. I believe they have only had 1 catch on 1 pass that was close. It seems like using tight end personnel packages would pose some issues for defenses. I understand Steele made some big plays last year, and can run after he catches the ball, ad I don't know much about the other tight ends. Perhaps the issue is use of the position. Debate about previous players seems to be pointless. In an offense that is struggling to establish itself, it seems like we should FIND a way to use every weapon possible.....everyone has a niche and a role to play.

Sorry to bother with trivial questions, but I am trying to get a flavor for this new offense (and I had 91/2 hours on the night shift to think). Gunn w/ 1 catch???? Was it a bubble screen? did the scheme resemble Oregon (in any way) with the read/screen/qb keep progression? Did Downing get reps? did we run a fb?
Again, I appreciate the help of anybody who was at the game.....Once I am at peace with the picture, I can move on to the BEAT CSU mindset....Thanks in advance!

It's tough to say if it resembled Oregon. They lineup similar but once the ball is hiked it's a different story. The offense typically ran 4 wide with Hildreth in the backfield. Therefore the TE is rarely used. Not a fan of that, I would prefer to see 3 wide with a TE. Once CSU figured out that Orms was struggling throwing the football down the field, they put more guys in the box and shut down the run completely. The read-option is supposed to utilize the running back more and qb keepers to keep the DE honest. In the first half, Orms kept the ball roughly 8 times and gave the ball to Hildreth 2 times. Many misreads on the handoff. Baca made a few misreads too and missed on a couple of occassions to receivers with a few dropped balls on top of it. Thought the DB's did a good job but the defensive coordinator needs to be more aggressive. Did not see many, if any, blitz's by the linebackers or corners.
