Bearcrawls eluded to in a different thread, but it probably needs its own thread. I don't blame a lose on a single player and I've backed up Lobato before, but this game is on him. If he plays better, we win the game. If he plays even an average game, we win. The problem is Baca hasn't looked much better when he has played. Should we go with Tancik?

Lobato is the perfect example of the pre game and coin flip All American. He sure looks the part but has zero football intelligence or savy and plays like a robot out there. Starting 14 games now or whatever that's not going to get it done.

Unfortunatly they have nobody else except maybe the freshman but no point in burning a redshirt when there are so many other problems it won't matter.

I really thought this was going to be a great year for him. He actually has a supporting cast with a good offensive line and a decent running game and now he is pissing it away. Sorry Seth but this lose was on you. Too bad Cam Deen left the program.

I agree with you. Our qb hasn't consistently capitalized.
I wonder if or combination and rub routes are effective our if he is just misreading the defense. Granted, I don't know the check downs, but would we be better served with our personnel with an effective short, play action game?
I really don't know, but we seem too hit the long pass and don't have the quick game to compliment it consistently.

This isn't about whether another quarterback is ready, this is about breeding competition. This about banging ur head against the wall 13 times expecting a different result. Seth knows he will qb whether he wins, loses, throws 3 picks, 3 touchdowns, 100 yds or 400 yds. This sends the wrong message not only to Seth but the entire team. The message on any team should be if you don't perform we will find someone who will. This goes for every position. Whether its Matt or Timmy, give another player the opportunity. The whole game....not just a series or a quarter. Matt has had 6 snaps this year, very difficult to be in any type of flow. What is the worst thing that can happen.....we lose??? And if you don't create a qb controversry now then you might as well ink Seth for next year too. I say put the pressure on him now and make him earn it for next year. If the coaching staff makes no change and the season continues like this they will be fired......And Jay will fall with them. That's my prediction.

I don't think there was anything wrong with naming him the starter. He had a pretty good season last year but it looks like he has taken advantage of the situation in a bad way. I agree though, put the pressure on him and see how well he does. Maybe give him the first 2 quarters of next weeks game and if he's not performing well, yank him and put one of the others in there.

Why another 2 quarters? The problem I have with that is the backup qb's will not get any 1st team reps in practice this week. So then you throw them in cold (like usual) and expect them to perform like some kind of savior? I say announce the new qb on monday and give them full reps at practice.

Also, I don't think it's fair that you say the backup qb's can't do it since neither has been given a legit chance. So how can you make an honest evaluation. Timmy has had no reps and Baca has had 6 snaps. Looking at last year against Colorado St Baca was 6-14 with a TD. That's not too bad for the 3rd string qb coming off the bench and who had no practice reps that week since Dylan was the starter that game.

Sorry but this is all frustrating and to read Collin's post game comments where he states changes needs to be made.....I just don't believe he will follow through with it. Where will the changes be made? I thought the defense played well, I think the receivers and backs played well and I thought the o-line played well, even after Jake went down. So exactly who is Collins blaming now?

Is he really blaming anyone?

The QB position needs to be opened back up for competition. I don't know what Lobato's deal this year, he seems to make some progress at the end of last season, but now he doesn't look very good. He even didn't look good last week against Mesa. I don't know ifs its the new offensive scheme or what, but did it change that much? Baca has had one career start that I can remember against Sac State, and Sac won 41-7. He looked alright at the CSU game last year. Tim has never taken a snap. If you think about who's the last good QB UNC has had, Wagner? Maybe thats something the staff needs to do this recruiting season, look hard for some QBs.

I bet this staff will stick with Lobato though.

The last good QB UNC had is our current offensive coordinator.

Listened to the Coaches show last night and there wasn't even a hint of looking at other QB options. The standard "he is trying too hard" stuff. I would be irate if I was behind him on the depth chart.

He's been "trying" for 13 games now. At what point is a duck a duck?

Once again. Labota sucks ass and not a hint of QB change. :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno:

What defines a great quarterback? What makes guys like Favre, Manning, Rodgers, etc... great quarterbacks? It's not their height, weight, running ability or arm strength.....it's about leadership ON the football field. To make the big throws when the team needs them most. Name me one game where you have said "oh good Seth is bringing us back!" It's not about his physical attributes....it's between his ears! THAT is what separates great quarterbacks.

Leadership starts at the top
Not to be self righteous.....I am reluctant to talk down players (please don't take offense),
It Is the coaches responsibility to put the players in positions to be successful. When they fail, players fail, teams fail, and ultimately programs fail.
Again, no offense(literally and figuratively), just a different perspective.

Just a shit game with little upside but I am not willing to throw Seth under the bus on this one effort. After a horrific 1st quarter (at least no turnovers) the passing game kept us in the game, well sort of. They did enough to hope the defense could make a big stop and it never really happened.

The defense was horrific, especially on 3rd down. The only bright side is that Montana State may be as good as their #2 national ranking suggests and if that's the case, it's like Vanderbilt playing at Alabama and the result was always going to be ugly. I just hope we match up better against the bottom half of the Big Sky.

You're right mountainbear, it's not Seth it's about idiot 1 and idiot 2. I wonder if Armour is just     right now at Boyer and Collins. It couldnt have been easy to be demoted and replaced by a guy who probably still lives with his mother. So hopefully now he's past it and can laugh about it.

How's the influence on the offense from the ex coach brought in as a consultant going?
