Next Seasons Schedule

also we had some bigger schools in 2008 and we had more road games. we only had 12 home games. i dont want to play bigger schools if it means i get to listen to them on the radio. i'd rather play seattle or long beach at the dee.

this yr we had 13 games. one more than last year. we need 14-15 home games not play 20 road games like ISU.

how does this look?

Nov 13 @ Iowa State Ames, IA L 88-68
Nov 15 @ Bradley Peoria, IL L 74-69
Nov 17 @ BYU Provo, UT L 87-53
Nov 21 Colorado Christian Pocatello, ID W 77-60
Nov 24 @ Utah State Logan, UT L 77-44
Nov 28 @ UM-Kansas City Kansas City, MO W 68-65
Dec 1 @ Notre Dame South Bend, IN L 80-70
Dec 5 @ Utah SLC, UT L 68-56
Dec 9 Boise State Pocatello, ID L 79-67
Dec 11 @ USC Pasadena, CA L 59-53
Dec 19 @ Sac State* Sac, CA L 64-63
Dec 22 @ Oregon Eugene, OR L 77-71
Dec 28 Montana Tech Pocatello, ID W 63-55

so thats 2 home games up til Dec 28. im a season tkt holder. i want to see home games.

to former wildcat who says ugh to webers schedules. believe me, every team in the nation has plenty of patsy's on their schedule. the problem at weber is they dont have enough. this years schedule was the toughest preseason schedule in team history.let's take the great north carolina's schedule this year for example. here's their pre-league: north carolina central,gardner-webb,presbyeterian, and the always dangerous belmont abbey.my point is,why moan about weber's schedule, when they can't beat 75% of the teams in the pre-season now?

You make a great point. I think we all want two things: 1. More home games and 2. More butts in the seats at those home games. Big name teams will bring in the bandwagon fans. However, I agree...Weber needs to win more preseason games first.

I apologize, but I have to giggle at the fans that want more 'patsies' on the schedule because teams like UNC do it. First off, UNC blew this year; probably not the best argument (and we are nowhere near as established as UNC in the recruiting game). They are full of All-America caliber talent, and play in one of the strongest conferences in the country. Preseason play isn't as critical to them as it is for mid-majors. Secondly, what good do meaningless wins against bad teams bring to the organization? A confidence boost? Not really. As a former WSU player, I can tell you that beating teams like Montana Tech or Seattle does very little other than give you a few runs up and down the court against new faces. Sure, the fans get to walk out and say, "Gee, the boys look real tough!" But in reality, not much is gained. These wins do nothing for recruiting, don't bring in any money, don't boost long-term confidence, don't boost RPI, and don't impress the seeding committees.

I would encourage you to read the following article about Oakland University: http://www.foxsportsdetroit.com/pag...n-gets-them-mat=1&blockID=197624&feedID=3804] Oakland is a great example of a team in a mediocre/bad conference, trying to make a boost in reshaping their program. To quote a highlight of the Fox Sports article, "And therein lies the genius of Kampe's scheduling. Yes, playing college basketball's best provides a big payday and a great recruiting tool, but the boost in RPI may pay the biggest dividends. The Grizzlies earned a 14 seed based on strength of schedule. So, instead of entering the tourney as a 16 seed and facing the top seed Syracuse, the Golden Grizzlies will instead play Pittsburgh".

Another great example of a mid-major taking the next step in becoming a perennial success: Butler. Butler's conference is mediocre-to-poor, so they stacked their preseason with: Georgetown, Clemson, Ohio State, Minnesota, UCLA, and Xavier. You may take a licking in the preseason, but the lessons learned, experience, and confidence instilled from playing with the big dogs carries over into conference play (Butler ran the table).

Take my opinion for what it is; just an opinion. However, being a former WSU mens basketball player whose team won the regular season, conference tourney, and tasted a NCAA tournament victory, I can feel very passionate about meaningless wins versus the experiences and lessons associated with playing top programs. Sorry for the novel, here. : )

Great points...I totally agree with your premise.

Weber will be playing in the Great Alaska Shootout next season probably opening against St. Johns from the Big East. ROAD TRIP!!!!!!
They are also looking at scheduling either Cal or Arizona State. Is this HARD enough for you fans?

I would like to see a better home schedule. Western State and MT. Tech don't get me too excited. How about a home and home with SUU, UVU, heck even Cal Bakersfield over Western and MTECH. Go for a 2-1 with some WAC, WCC or MWC schools. Just 1 or 2 more quality home games is all I ask :)

I think that we need we need to schedule some west coast power to our home schedule. I think that getting some WCC schools on the home school would be legit. Why not the University of Portland or some of those, Gonzaga, an old Big Sky foe would be cool for a home and home. Bring on the WAC, San Jose State or Fresno State ect. I would love a 2-1 with the Pac-10 or MWC.. If Gonzaga or Butler cam get some "bigger" schools at home, WSU can too! Don't make me mention again that SUU got UNLV at home.

Loyala Marymount had home and homes with UM and Sac last season. I'm sure Weber can work out some type of deal with a WCC school. A few years back Weber played Portland home and home.

i dont think portland will come to the dee. they are 0-8 against us and the last game was in 2007 at the dee. it actaully was a home and home in the same year. we beat them by 14 in portland and beat them by 10 at the dee.

gonzaga does get one big team per year to come to spokane and they travel to a big tourney each year so that is how they play a lot of big shcools. usually 4 games in 4 days against the big 6. then they do a few more raod games against big sschools. so that like 6 away games against big schools to get one home game.

also the wac and mtn west arent worthy of a 2 for 1. that should only be reserved for the big 6.

AJ,
Great Alaska Shootout website does not show Weber in the field. I see Southern Utah. Can you double-check your with your sources?

Coach Rahe is the source. I guess somebody decided that it wasn't a good fit for Weber. Maybe Weber got invited to another tournament with a stronger field. Maybe St. Johns (team Weber was suppose to play first) didn't want to get embarrassed by the Cats and protested. Who knows what happened. Right now its heresay as to why the Cats aren't going to the tournament. Maybe Weber is going to the Maui invitational. LOL.

y do you assume rahe doesnt know what he is talking about when he said this just last week and this article we see is from November. How do we know st john's or suu are going? st john's is getting a new coach and suu might be.

I do appreciate a date from the article. It makes more sense now that Weber could be in the tourny. I didn't really look at the article. I'm sure some things have changed since november. Also, where is Reid going? Is SUU looking for a new coach? I doubt it...

However, if you had been at the luncheon you would have heard Rahe say "we might be going to the a tournament in Alaska," but since you decided to sit on your butt at your house last week, you never heard what he said and what he didn't say. So how do you know? He never said that Weber was for sure going. He said there was a good possibility and if Weber were to go, that he wanted to play the best team, which is St. Johns.

Also, please tell me WHERE in my previous post that I wasn't supporting or putting trust in coach Rahe? I think its pretty stupid of you to come on here and act like you know what is going on, when you weren't even at the luncheon. Also, I think its even more idiotic of you to say anything, when I was the one who told you what happened at the luncheon. I was just saying where AJ got his information and that the information he got was sound. More than anything else, I was supporting AJ's statement.

Calm down, Gingerbread. You 2 remind me of the homosexual couple on Modern Family. Thanks for the info from the Luncheon for those who can't make it.

Based upon recent events on this thread, I will NO LONGER be posting anything I hear at the Coaches Lunches, or Roundball Club, or from any member of the WSU athletic department, or ANY WSU players Facebook page. Instead, from now on I WILL ONLY be posting shizz that I make up, or that I hear someone else has made up.

For as long as I have been on this forum, AJ's info has been solid, if Aj said he was at the luncheon and he heard Rahe say that I Believe him, if we dont end up playing up in Alaska thats ok maybe we'll get a good home game instead.

you never told me we might be going to alaska. you just said we were going. your last post is the first mention in this thread about us "maybe" going. another question, why do you keep talking about st johns like htey are some amazing power house? i think they've had 2-3 winning seasons in 10 yrs and last 20 win season was almost 10 yrs ago.

Coach Rahe is the source. I guess somebody decided that it wasn't a good fit for Weber. Maybe Weber got invited to another tournament with a stronger field. when i was saying y do u doubt rahe it was regarding the above. but if you say its "maybe" then this argument becomes moot.
