Next Year!!!!

I hate to say it Wazzuwilcat, but you best pack your bags and start the journey to Missoula because it isn’t going to happen here anytime soon. I guess what I don’t understand is how everyone thinks that getting rid of all the assistants is going to produce better results. Look, not only did the head coach hire his assistants, he approves the incoming players and recruits them. So maybe it’s the head of the snake? Or shall I say, it is the head of the snake! Did you see the end of the bench last night, when we the crowd started chanting Morris? They were more into the game at that point, than the rest of the game. Almost as if they wanted us to chant it so Rahe could get a clue. Not a good look!
There is nothing in the pipeline that tells me we have anything good coming our way for several years, not just next.
I suppose I could be an optimist and put on the purple glasses and believe, but I have put too much money and time into thinking that way and I’m done with the pleasantries.

The best thing coach could do is let the University out of his contract. He can easily move on and get an assistant job somewhere. He and the family won't be starving anytime soon.

Randy is no longer teachable. He does not have the ability to change. The fire is gone and it is a little sad considering where he was. Do you remember when he grabbed the mic at the purple and white game his first season and pleaded the community for support and promised that the team would play hard and the right way. If you told me that in 14 years he would make excuses night in and night out and the program would lack accountability I would tell you that you were crazy.

He has had good intentions during this contract extension. But he has gone about it the wrong way. The running kids off and choosing athletic selfish play over the team concept have doomed the program. He let Cody John play the same selfish way for 5 seasons in the program. I don't think Randy is able to fix it right now. Unfortunately we are stuck. We as a community pulled together the resources to keep him here and gave him the security he wanted. He should do the right thing and let the University out of the contract. It has been 4 years and things keep progressively getting worse.

Totally agree webergrad02! It’s very rare that coaches stay in the same place for a long time, because they lose the fire, there voice doesn’t resonate anymore. Look down south! I’m pretty sure Dave Rose knew the clock had ran out at BYU and he was smart enough to get out of the way and allow a new voice to come in and improve on what he had created. Coaching isn’t a lifetime position! At some point it has to change or end. I’m with you! Step down and allow someone else to come in and change the direction of the program in a positive way. Get some excitement back in Ogden.

What the over/under on transfers? I’m at +3. Rahe will clean house. Maybe fire two assistants. He needs someone to help him recruit and draw up game plans. I look at the turnaround at MSU and NAU and agree that having a motivated and competent Head Coach matters! Quick drooling over Beckner, we should’ve kept Smiley or Linder.

Assistants are only as good as the head guy. Rahe has lost motivation and direction so to fix this, you need an enthusiastic new hire who will bring in his own guys, just like USU and BYU have done. But that won't happen because it's too expensive to buy Rahe out and he won't "do the right thing and leave" because why would he?

Weber loses Harding, John, and Morris to graduation.

As for transfers, there will be at least three. Likely more than that. Culture is terrible because coach is more concerned with his own retirement than in doing a good job. So we'll need to replace at least 5 guys. Turnover like that is not a way to build a winning program.

Sad to say, but there will be a mass exodus from the University of Utah's program at the end of the season too, so we're not alone. Misery doesn't love company, always feel bad for the kids because it messes up their plans. Coach K at the U has the same thing going on as we do--lack of interest in his players, and drumming up the energy to turn it around.

I'm not going to name names, because I find that to be wrong on many levels, but I am fairly sure of one player leaving, could see two, and would be surprised if three or more were to leave. I agree with you about Smiley and Linder.

I have heard a lot of talk about coaches losing motivation to win. I find that to be impossible to believe. Just think about how frustrated we all are with many of these loses. Multiply that by about 20 and you will know how the coaches and players are feeling. :coffee:

Get ready to be surprised cause there are easily 3 transferring, a high chance of 4 and the guaranteed departure of Nero would make 5. Rahe is the head guy but has shown success with good assistants. I think it’s time for Duft to move on and it seems since the arrival of Marek we have progressively gotten worse.

:blah:

Barnes and Diakite enter transfer portal. Let the offseason exodus begin.

Those two I think we all assumed were headed out the door since they were not playing. It will be interesting to see who is next to abandon ship.

Galuppo is entering the portal as well. Has anyone checked on Olds to see if he is surprised yet?
I am a little surprised with Barnes, not with the other two. I don't know what happened with Barnes. He went from a starter to hardly playing. I'm not sure if we will ever know the full story there. I wish him and the other two nothing but the best. :coffee:

W O W !! There will be only 6 scholarship players left for next season. That is if Judah Jordan also hits the transfer portal; Kozak, Fuller, Zdor, Kupsas, Davis & Cunningham. I wonder if Mitch Brizee will get a scholarship or will transfer? So maybe 7 if he is scholarshipped. It's a total cluster f---! How bad does it have to get before Rahe is gone? Step up Mr. Rahe, be a man. Admit that you have fallen behind the coaching curve. Face that you are not catching up but falling further behind. You no longer have what it takes to win at the level expected for WSU basketball... RESIGN!

This is a loss, but, as a friend always says, if there isn't anyone here that can develop, why stay? Jordan is a good basketball player and should have gotten, at least, 10-15 a game and probably more at the end of the season. I mean, we weren't good anyway, so why keep playing the same rotation over and over and over again expecting a different result?

Wait...that's right. Because that is what Randy does. He does the same things over and over and over again expecting different results. Hell, with Cody John on the floor so much, he could have kicked the ball into the rafters and gotten more from his team.

One or two transfers can be dismissed as kids being dissatisfied or something similar. But four transfers this year after multiple transfers over several seasons can only be attributed to one thing: culture. Culture is the sole domain of the head coach. Randy doesn't understand basketball and he doesn't understand culture, both of which require a lot of effort and personal attention and adaptation. Randy is mailing it in, collecting his check, riding the wave into retirement. We hear the same lame excuses after every loss because he doesn't care and he doesn't have a clue what to do about it. He's the one who recruited these players here, so it's his deal if they don't or can't perform to a winning level. I doubt that Randy reads this fansite, but for the sake of Weber State basketball, someone please get the message to him.

His assistants need to go as well. David Merrick needs needs to go. He may have been a good basketball player for a mediocre program but he is horrible as a coach. He is all about himself. He could not coach a bad high school team. Watching him pout on the bench makes me sick. He treats the players bad as well. Get rid of him. I know too that Randy does not read these posts but if someone who is close to Randy just pass it on that they need to get rid of David Merrick
