North Dakota fans really think they are the best

If your ever bored, go read their forum. They really think that they are the team to beat in the Big Sky this year. Huff is good but I don't think they are better than Montana or Weber. Their coach is clearly not as good as Tinkle or Rahe. I was actually a little embarrassed for them in Ogden last year. Their coach made few adjustments in that game. They did give us all we could handle in the conference tournament. Only 7 more days.

Yeah, their board was saying the same things before the football season about their football team. Look how accurate that has turned out to be.

UND's basketball team, in my opinion, which doesn't really count for much, is the second most talented in the league. However, it depends far too much on Huff. If Huff were more like Davion or Jamaar, UND would be far more balanced, because he would be looking to pass as much as to shoot. UND does improve a bunch in the front court, which is where they suffered the most last season. If they can keep Brekke healthy and with the addition of a couple of JCs and Jaron Nash (Texas Tech Trans), UND could become multi-dimensional. Anderson, Webb, Schuler, and Huff are a very strong back court for the team formerly known as the Fighting Sioux. Are they better than UM??? Agreed that Tinkle is a better coach, but UM isn't as deep or talented as they have been the past few seasons. Yet, they are still very very dangerous and good. DeSheilds, Gregory, Jamaar, Kemp, and Hutch are a strong starting 5. Only issue, UM's front-court depth.

Personally, I think Eastern is the team on the rise. They are my dark-horse. I think UNCO could be dangerous, but I'm not really seeing where they improved other than getting a year older and losing two players for two JCs. Barden is a stud, but was dominated by the Cats in both games last year. A lot of that could have been due to Mook's defense and physicality. It's gonna be a good season no matter.

7 DAYS!!

So when did Southern Canada finally get electricity? Hmm I must have missed that announcement. Also are they aware that basketball is not an American word for hockey?

They should think that their team is the best, until proven otherwise. As far as Eastern being a team on the rise, we have been saying the same thing about Sac for years and it has never come to fruition.

It's going to be a very interesting year, to say the least. We have had a year of relative coaching stability. I'm hoping that our league comes out stronger than last year. I think that NAU could surprise a lot of people. ISU and SUU are both wildcards. Montana will be good, as will UND. :thumb:

I personally think that we are a top 3 team in the conference but right now I would place us at #3 until we can prove that we can beat you guys and Montana. I believe that most at siouxsports would agree with that. People over there are just excited this year because of all the returning talent and the transfers that we have landed. It's a good think there is so much excitement there beings that basketball is probably the third sport at UND.

It's important to note that UND has also improved on the coaching front as they recently brought in Jason Shay, long time Tennessee assistant coach and head recruiter.

Weber State has been my favorite program since I started following the big sky after our admittance into the conference, but some of you are sounding rather arrogant.

Welcome to the board!! I like where UND is. It is exciting. Your guys are really good and will be fun to watch. As for arrogance...well because are football team is so miserable we don't have much else. Ha!! Actually, as Wildcats we should be use to that. Most of the time our football team stinks.

Watch EWU. They are on the rise. I think they really got stronger as the season went on. SAC has never been good. EWU has won championships.

Wow.

I don't recall reading where any Sioux fans were thumping their chests that we are the team to beat this year in the Big Sky.

You'll have to forgive most of us for being optimistic about the upcoming season.

I"ll just say that the reason for optisim stems from the fact that despite having our best overall player, and our best post player miss significant time last season, we still managed to finish 3rd and take one of the best teams in the league down to the wire in the conference semis. We've got everyone back, and have made a few key additions, so hope is running high right now.

Personally, I think Weber will likely win the regular season, but if we stay healthy, I like North Dakota's chances to get the #2 seed in the tournament. Our coach always has his teams playing its best basketball at the end of the season, so I wouldn't be surprised by a slow start...............

And who are we to talk? We haven't won a Big Sky tourney in how many years?

:? :|

Uh...we barely beat UND on a neutral court last March. Reality is, is that we shouldn't have won. Thank goodness for Joel!!

:notworthy: :notworthy: Joel's dunk midway through the second half, really put a spark into the Cats game and got them playing far better. Nobody could stop him after that and the Cats put together a really nice run. For 30mins, I thought the season was over, thank goodness for that last 10min. UND really put a scare into us. But case in point about UND. They definitely improved throughout the season, and they really didn't lose anyone. Wilmer??

I sure hope they think they are going to be the top team. I would be worried about their fans if they didn't.

Year one they finished third, big sky ain't all that
They potentially have the best player in the conf
They played in a post season tourney last yr

They should be very very optimistic in my opinion. I hope they are really good. We need more good teams and less sub 300's.

UND is proving to be a great addition to the BSC. It might be a long trip, but the BSC has a lot of those. We are in the west; everywhere is a long ways to go. I like their fans and their coaches and crew seem to be very good. Idaho will be a good addition, when they finally rejoin. As a conference, we need to work hard at getting more than one team into the dance. Otherwise, the league may split in two in the future. :coffee:

Don't most Wildcat fans want the conference to split into two? I know I do (after our football team returns to the upper half anyway).

back when I was coaching at WSU, North Dakota was a D2 team I believe. Pretty remarkable how fast they have built that program. Lets hope they aren't just another flash in the pan (see UNC Bears) and hopefully they can consistently be a legit program.
Time to go make it "rain"

A split is going to happen?? Well, I hope not, but you might be right eventually it is inevitable. Lets just hope that Weber is in the better half, if and when a split occurs.

I'd like a, funny how much this resembles a conference created in the early 60s. :kisswink:
Weber
Montana
Montana State
UND
Idaho
Idaho State
Northern Arizona
Eastern Washington

To bad Poly and Davis aren't full members.

No I don't want SUU... :coffee:

I'm thinking when Idaho finally joins fully again, brings back football. That two divisions will be created for football only. Basketball 22 conference games a year. YIKES!! I like having 11 guaranteed home games a year, but that only leaves 7 to 9 OOC games a year.

I'm gonna miss the Bracket Buster!!

How could a split happen in basketball? Cal Poly and UC Davis are never going to leave the Big West to form another conference. Olympic sports are always going to be in the Big West. They have the best of both worlds. Limited travel for Oly sports and an awesome football conference in the Sky. Besides, in basketball they'd never compete. Remember Weber beat them, Cal Poly, by 42 last March (I'm sure UC Davis would have been two W's). Anyway, the point is, that they are in a conference where they only have to travel throughout California, instead of the entire West. I hope Idaho brings football in the future so that there are two divisions someday for football.

North Dakota's fans have every right to be optimistic, I think they are good enough to win the conference, especially if their team plays every game like the one they played against us in the tourney.

I do think we are the favorite, but in my opinion we have had the most "talented" team, but all that has given us is two straight trips to the CIT
