I hope the rain holds off.....It will be tough for me to convince my wife to go into an open air stadium during a rainstorm

Ask for under cover seating.

DANGER!...Will Robinson...DANGER!

We will probably be favored going into the game against NAU. We can't afford a let down.

All of the upper (200 level) seats and the top portion of the lower (100 level) seats are under cover. It rained cats and dogs during the spring game and we stayed fairly dry in row P of the lower section.

Big game this weekend. Can't wait for it. Let's have a great showing of students for this game. School is in session, so no excuses. The Viks could use the lift from a large and rowdy crowd Saturday. I even bought a new black and white Viking coat for the game at Joes. I'm ready!

A nice clean win should be entirely possible. A 3-0 Big Sky will look very good along with the fact that the team has become better weekly thus far.

I'll be there. In black. The one thing I am waiting for is to see the offense and defense play effectively in the same game and for a whole game.

I hope the AD going to get the word out to the students for this week's game.

A big crowd would be great. UO is on a bye week, OSU is at home but not on TV, and hopefully Beseda can get some hype in the sports section of the Big O this week.

The only concern for a big crowd (12-14k) may be the weather...

Steve says
On the Vikings
By steve brandon

The Portland Tribune, Oct 2, 2007

Portland State played inspired, improved football last week. The three units –offense, defense and special teams –all clicked more often than not, for perhaps the first time this season.

But the line between winning and losing is often fine in the Big Sky, so Saturday’s game will come down to the fourth quarter. The Vikings can’t afford a drop in production or intensity.

The pick: PSU 28, Northern Arizona 20

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Northern Arizona (1-3, 1-1) at PSU (2-3, 2-0)
When, where: Northern Arizona at Portland State, 1:35 p.m. Saturday, PGE Park

Radio: KTRO (910 AM)

• Given all their injuries, the Vikings would seem to have little business being in the Big Sky title talk. But a win Saturday would keep them in the running for potential late-season showdowns versus Montana and Montana State.

• It’s no given, however, that Portland State beats visiting Northern Arizona –even though the Lumberjacks fell 38-9 last week at Sacramento State. “I’m absolutely shocked by that,” PSU coach Jerry Glanville says. “From looking at film, I thought they’d be the best offensive team we would have played, other than San Diego State.”

NAU did lose its quarterback, Lance Kriesien, a good runner, to a shoulder injury in the second half. No. 4 QB Ricky Odorfer, a sophomore, went 3 for 12 for 54 yards. NAU hopes to have Kriesien back this week.

• The Vikings played their first two home games at 6 p.m., but their final three appearances at PGE Park will start in the afternoon. “The administration wanted the night games, because we weren’t in school yet and the weather was better,” Glanville says. “The students wanted afternoon games.”

• Eastern Washington QB Matt Nichols hadn’t been sacked all season until PSU got him five times in its 28-21 road upset last week. “We also made him scramble 17 times,” Glanville says. “That threw their game off.” … The Viking offense could have had at least two more touchdowns against the Eagles, “and we left several hundred yards on the field that should belong to us,” coordinator Mouse Davis says. “We’re getting better, but we really should move the ball a lot better.” … Fullback Olaniyi Sobomehin nearly doubled his season run stats. He gained 141 yards (5.5 per carry), after netting 161 total (4.2) in the first four games. … PSU leads the nation in passing yards per game (338.4). … Last week, the Vikings used Brian White in both the shotgun and under center. … Linebacker Jordan Senn tops the Big Sky in tackles with 60. He had 75 last season.

• Ryan Pederson, a 6-2, 230-pound redshirt freshman from Southridge High, has started the last two games at outside linebacker. Injuries led the coaches to move him from an inside backer spot. Pederson redshirted at Oregon before transferring. “He had three big sacks (at Eastern Washington),” Glanville says.

• The Vikings hope to get back the full services of hobbled wideouts Tremayne Kirkland and David Lewis. … Slotback Akeem Anthony, who played in three games, was ruled ineligible before the Eastern game. … Slot Aaron Woods, a 5-6, 180-pounder from Sunset High and Santa Rosa (Calif.) Junior College, could become eligible later this month. … Glanville says standout cornerback Jordan Brown (shoulder) could be out for a while, after getting hurt late in last week’s 28-21 win at Eastern Washington. … Dallas Smith will move back from fullback to linebacker. … Dave Howell, recently moved from the defensive line to offensive tackle, got a bit more playing time last week as a reserve.

Anyone know what happened to Brown? Also is there any word on Branden Brooks for Saturday? I noticed in the box score that Dickson played against Eastern and had one tackle did he get many snaps in the game?

Latest info I've seen:

http://blog.oregonlive.com/portlandstatevikings/

Coach Jerry Glanville's main point of emphasis was that the defense needs to get back to hitting hard. After having nothing but praise for the hitting in the Sacramento State game, Glanville said he thought the team didn't do as good a job against Eastern Washington.

He said the issue would be addressed in film study (Tucker Miller has a good story in the Vanguard on this).

Watching the defense today, I thought they looked more fired up than usual. There was a minor scrum between two players and there seemed to be a lot of chatter and fire. I asked Glanville about that and he said he didn't see it so I could just be an idiot (or he could be bluffing).

Glanville also built up this week's opponent, Northern Arizona. He raved about NAU's performance in its 34-21 loss to then No. 1 Appalachian State and said quarterback Lance Kriesien would be the "best athlete we play at quarterback." With eyebrows raised, someone asked if he was better than San Diego State quarterback Kevin O'Connell. Glanville qualified his statement, saying Kriesien was a "much better runner."

Kriesien's status for Saturday is still undetermined after he suffered an injury against Sacramento State.

Injury Updates

Cornerback Jordan Brown (shoulder) and defensive lineman Casey Tyler (turftoe) were in street clothes due to injuries. Brown's status for Saturday is unclear, though Glanville said freshman Deshawn Shead was in line to start.

Slotback Akeem Anthony is ineligible, likely for the rest of the season.

Linebacker Branden Brooks (shoulder) practiced for the first time after missing two weeks of action.

Wide receiver Tremayne Kirkland (groin) practiced in uniform but had a very noticeable limp.

Tyler injury hurts because he may have a future, and a turf toe never goes away. He is also essential to getting pressure with only three down linemen.

Yep, turf toe is no joke. If it's something that just occured, he'd need to hang it up for the season in order for it to heal correctly.
