Northern AZ v. #1 AZ Tonight

This is a big game for the Big Sky. NAU is playing the #1 rated team in the country, Arizona. If you wanna bet on NAU, you get 27.5 points!

But you never know, if it happens it would only be good for the NCU Small Axes.

Hopefully none of you were enticed by the 27.5 points bet: final score 77-44.

AZ was up 41-17 at half.

In fairness to the Lumbering Jacks, AZ has beaten Duke and Michigan. At least the Big Sky is playing a team that beat Coach K.

"We had too many turnovers, and that's what killed us," Northern Arizona forward Gaellan Bewernick said. It was just some turnovers, otherwise you guys would've dominated.

AZ was #1 most of '02-'03 and didn't make the Final Four despite Luke Walton, Salim Stoudemire, and Channing Frye--all NBA players.

Fixed.

Agreed, Stoudamire was a bust.

But Walton was a solid role player for the Lakers, or they wouldn't have re-upped him for 6 years at $30 million. A 9-year NBA player.

Frye is still playing. Averaging 10-6 off the bench. Made the NBA All Rookie First Team along with Chris Paul. 6-10 and can shoot the 3.

I don't consider reliable role players "crappy". Udonis Haslem was a big part of Miami's success.

More on why Channing Frye is not "crappy"; apparently he defensively shuts down opposing all-stars:

The Suns disheartened the Clippers with a strong-rotating defense led by Channing Frye’s effort on Blake Griffin, who was coming off scoring games of 35 and 40 points and had 15 on Monday. Frye had success on Griffin dating back to 2011 and he recaptured as if he had never been out of basketball for a year and half. He used his length inside and stayed planted strong on Griffin’s back in the post.

“What have I got to lose? Nobody thinks I play defense anyway,” Frye said. “I just try to do the best I can and make him work and take tough shots.”

Griffin missed his first five shots and became clearly irritated by how Frye and teammates would not allow Griffin to get to his preferred spots and fronted him with constant contact. Griffin, who called the loss “embarrassing,” had four of the Clippers’ 14 turnovers through three quarters, when the game’s fate was sealed with a season-high Suns lead of and a Clippers season-high deficit at 88-59.

“They were so much tougher than us,” Clippers coach Doc Rivers said.

Last night #1 AZ slaughtered WSU, 60-25. WSU shot 9.5% from the field in the first half. AZ opened with a 21-2 lead.

At least NAU represented the Big Sky better than that.

NAU beat Montana. That's awesome. It's coming down to UNC and EWU. So tired of Montana and Weber.

That's a huge upset by NAU !! Should give our guys an adrenaline boost for sat night and beyond !! Go Bears !
