A source close to the situation has confirmed under the condition of anonymity that Weber State offensive coordinator Steve Clark has accepted an offer to join Kalani Sitake’s coaching staff at BYU.

The source was unable to confirm Clark’s specific position with the Cougars.

Clark, a BYU graduate, joined the coaching staff at Weber State with head coach Jay Hill in December 2013 where he spent two seasons with the Wildcats.

Prior to his time at WSU, Clark was on the coaching staff at Southern Utah for six years where he helped lead the team to the FCS playoffs for the first time in school history.

This will not be Clark’s first time working for BYU, as he spent three seasons on Bronco Mendenhall’s staff working with the offensive line and special teams from 2005 to 2007.

A QB recruit and Clark gone. Is it Christmas again?

Rumor is he will be a TE coach at BYU. Did we even throw to our tight ends last year? Obviously not in the red zone or on 3rd down.

 Good for him & hopefully (depending on the replacement) good for WSU in my opinion...that's all I'm going to say.

 ...and with a decent run game it seems the TE could and should be an integral part of the offense-- say with some play-action stuff-- but I'm self-admittedly not too knowledgeable about the X's & O's of football. The few times I remember throws to the TE, it seems like the ball was dropped.

What solid resume! Good for Weber, too bad for BYU. I don't mind BYU football and this doesn't seem to me like a great addition to what they're trying to assemble in Provo.

Anyone with a list of possible canidates?
Just looking at those already on the staff, Brent Myers would have to be a candidate. He's been an OC before, has tons of experience, and the O line was solid under his coaching last season.

Let me start by saying I think Steve Clark was a bad OC for us and made plenty of bad decisions. However, he proved with a good QB he could be successful and have a good offense. What I'll be anxious to see is who we get to replace him and if the new OC has any better luck with our current QB's. I for one think Jadrian Clark is athletically gifted but seems to have a five cent head on him when he is pressured or with his decision making deep down field. How many times last year did Clark throw an INT in the red zone or misfire on open receivers?? I'd say quite a bit and I think that's obvious. All that being said I hope the new OC changes things up and makes our offense more unpredictable or at least tailored to the intelligence of our QB. I do find it shocking Clark will coach TE's at BYU since he didn't seem to have a clue on how to use one at Weber State!

I was pretty shocked when I heard the news this morning. But I think that Ed Lamb played a big role in getting him hired as Clark had success while coaching with him at SUU. It will be interesting to see how it works out.
I am excited to see who Jay brings in for OC? I wouldn't be against Myers taking over but I have a feeling it might be someone else.

Probably little interest but Brandon Doman is around, is he ready to get back in the college game?

Re-treads (IMO 0% chance): Robin Pflugrad (interviewing finalist for Rocky Mtn College H.C.) and Matt Hammer (better off at WHS than back at WSU).

Wow...this is indeed interesting. Good luck to Steve at BYU. Thank you for all of your hard work.

Okay, now time to get serious. I feel we need someone who can really develop a QB. We have an OL guy, RB, TE, and. WR coordinator (passing game), but not a good QB coach. Anyone think Jamie Martin would be interested to come back to Ogden? Lol But really, Myers could be the OC no problem, but we will still need a guy to develop QBs. Arslainian isn't doing anything...

Off the top of my head I don't know of any legitimate options. I guess we will just need to wait and see. Maybe coach was going to demote Clark anyway...so, taking a crap gig at BYU isn't a bad option. I doubt that but it could be a possibility.

Oh, welcome go cats go!

Steve Clark,
Let's face it he was horrible as an OC! Period! In fact one of the worst that I have ever seen at the college level.
Also tells me that BYU will be a joke in the future. They will have a five foot midget trying to teach TE' how to play the position. I am sure he will be able to relate well on how to teach a TE how to scrape down the line and get into the Linebackes.

Please not Brandon D. Horrible qb in college and even worse as a college coach. Absolutely clueless, major loser! Unless of course your going to run the triple option.

Um, you're crazy... tell me what part of Doman made him a crappy QB.
From Wikipedia:
Doman tied a BYU school record by winning his first fourteen starts as a starter, including the final game of legendary head coach LaVell Edwards in 2000. During the 2001 season, the "Domanator" and BYU won twelve straight games to begin the season before losing their final two. Doman completed 261 of 408 passes that year (64% completions), finishing with 3,542 passing yards and 33 touchdowns. He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the 5th round of the 2002 NFL Draft
As far as how he is as a OC there's not much there to evaluate, he had to work with the QB's he had.

Only bringing this up since I looked it up before...

Those two red zone interceptions Clark had against Idaho State? Only two red zone turnovers committed by the team this season. Here is the breakdown of turnovers and where the line of scrimmage was for that play:

Jadrian Clark

INT (WSU 42)
INT (WSU 25)
INT (OPP 41)
INT (OPP 49)
INT (WSU 27)
INT (WSU 42)
INT (WSU 45)

INT (OPP 26)
INT (OPP 11)
INT (OPP 4)

Red Zone Offense is ranked by ability to score, either TDs and FGs, after entering the red zone. Weber scored on 67.6% (25 for 37) of their red zone chances, good for last place in the conference. The leader was MSU at 90.9% and the median was 82.2%. As far as lost possessions in the red zone go, Weber was tied for 10th with 7 (0 Fumb, 2 Int, 4 Downs, 1 Other). The leader in lost possessions was UND with 2 and the median was 5. Weber's red zone problem wasn't so much turnovers but inefficiency and inability to score points, including missing 5 of 12 FG attempts. And as we know the missed FGs cost Weber at least one game, vs EWU.

 I would certainly imagine so, and in the process think Jay Hill got a gift handed to him...will be interesting to see the fills to the WSU staff, aren't there around 3 openings now, OC, DC (vacant last season), & secondary (Cory Hall left)?? Good Luck to HC Hill, hope he knows of some promising, upcoming candidates that are energetic & eager. Will he wait awhile and/or not fill the DC again, probably to save on the limited $$ budget?

From what I understand, which isn't much  (at least I have more going on upstairs than the man formerly known at Catcat), Hall helped Coach Hill run the defense last season. He wasn't slated to stay long, but was able to help Terrell Cloud to the point where he can now, possibly move into the vacated spot left open by Hall's departure. I'm sure that Coach Hill will still run the defense. Hell, he might run the offense too. He took that over at NAU.

What do we want? If Meyers, who is already Associate Head Coach takes over the offense, we will continue to see a lot of smash mouth football, like last season, but I hope opens up (spreads out) the offense a bit more than what Clark supposedly did. But OL coaches love to run the ball. They like to prove the worth of their lineman and get them out running. I'm okay with that, as long as we don't become predictable. That was terrible last year...you could totally tell what was coming. Shows the strength of our line to still move the ball when the opposing team knew what was coming. I don't see anyone else on that side of the ball who could take over...Maybe Swan? And then bring in another TE coach? But he has only been on the offensive side of the ball for two seasons of his career as a player and coach.

Personally, I would like to see us spread it out a bit more, but I have nothing against smash mouth football, as long as we mix in more play action and screens. We were to damn predictable last year, especially in the red zone.
