I can't believe nobody has really mentioned this guy. He is awesome!! Omar would really look great in Weber State Wildcat Purple.

on a side note, isnt it awesome to be interested in along the likes of Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Houston, Wichita State and Miami? AWESOMENESS

When I saw his name surface a few weeks ago, I thought the same thing. Do we really have a shot at this guy?
However, as I have looked further into it, I believe that we do.

Omar is number 1 on our list. He will be an impact player for Weber State and our league. I am sure that he knows where he stands with us and where he stands with those other schools. As I looked at those other schools lists, at his position, he is middle of the pack or lower on their rankings. He would be going to one of those schools with the thought of playing three or four years from now. However, at WSU he is an immediate impact player who will gain notoriety right out of the gate. If he is looking at a potential NBA career, that kind of exposure is quite helpful. Scouts can watch you develop over a few years, like they did with Damian, and you won't get that sitting on the bench at a bigger school.

If Omar visits our campus, I believe he will love it and sign. :thumb: :thumb:

I have a theory...now that Braxton has committed and we all know that Van Pelt is on board next season (means we have 3 spots left, maybe 4), it could be a sign that Sherman is a long-shot? I really hope I'm wrong.

I do know that we have a definite possibility and that Sherman is on board with visiting. Also, that the kid is extremely good friends with a handful of current Wildcats and that his best friend is playing for the Cats. Finally, the Wizard and Co. have been recruiting him longer than anyone else. The Cats have a solid relationship with him and have a vested interest in seeing him succeed and develop into his potential as a basketball player and as a student/future professional. Old's is absolutely right...Weber would be a place where Sherman could play immediately. Van Pelt and Braxton are Centers'. Sherman is a PF and will back up Bolomboy. Fuller and Hill are both going to be splitting time at the 3 (what is nice is that they can both play the 4 as well) in the future. To me, it makes far more sense for Sherman to be in Ogden than at LSU or Miami. He would play immediately and would be able to learn from and play against another big with NBA potential. Also, and lets be honest here, he would be a HUGE get for the Wildcats.

Braxton and Van Pelt have two of the scholarships...that means the Cats are going to sign two wings/combo guards and a possible point?

They will certainly sign Omar, if they can get him. I was told that the plan is to sign the bigs when you can get them, because they may not be available when you absolutely need them. As you have said Tal, we can get by without signing another wing this fall. If we get Omar, I think we sign one wing and one point. :coffee:

 Exactly!! If we can get the bigs now...take them. Besides the type of bigs we are bringing in can play multiple positions. Also, you don't say no to a guy like Omar Sherman. He is too good not to roll out the red carpet for. I have heard he is for sure coming here on a visit. That is a great sign for the Cats. He is definitely interested.

Also, we know that Van Pelt is playing right away, but Zach can RS and if he wanted to Omar could too. I'm sure one has to play right away, but if Van Pelt comes back and get into playing shape quick, will be tough, but he has the time to get it done. He is scheduled to return next May right?

Weber might not have to worry too much about signing another guard, depending on whether or not JC Kennedy takes advantage of his opportunity like Ryan did.

Catcat...three RM's in a row son!! Where ya at?? Fuller, Van Pelt, and Cannon.

Tal, have you been holding out on us? Seems like you know more than what you are telling us. Good info about Omar though. What are our chances of getting Sherman? Who are his friends on the team? I saw that he played with Senglin in Texas, is there a good chance that Senglin is helping Weber get this guy to sign? :thumb:

ESPN has him as an 80. I'm not sure if he whittled down his options lately, but most places have him down to three schools: Weber State, Witchita State, Miami. I know he has offers from North Texas, Houston, and I believe Texas A&M. He was receiving interest from Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Colorado, Memphis, and Kansas State.

Found this on the shockers forum:

Weber is one of the schools pursuing Sherman the hardest.

Imagine: Sherman, Braxton, Gittens, Senglin, and Hill on the floor at the same time!! Uh...YIKES!! Sherman would be an instant star here in Ogden. We are talking on the level of some of our greats.

Nice find Tal!! What are the chances of Weber landing Sherman? I read somewhere that all of those "interested" schools, have actually offered him. Yep, that is some stiff competition. I agree with Tal, Omar WOULD be a star in Ogden.

Sherman might be on campus as early as next weekend. He could be at the football game. I'm not 100% sure, but keep an eye out for him. What a HUGE player Sherman would be for the Cats. Come on Omar, make it happen...bring your skills to Ogden Utah!!

SOTU Exclusive says:

Omar Sherman (PF) - Sherman, also from Texas, is a true power forward at 6'8", 230. The rapidly improving forward was the talk of a Texas AAU event in July, showing a refined inside-out game and rebounding prowess, and earning a Miami offer on the spot. Despite having four-star status from both Scout and ESPN, Sherman currently lists only three offers, with the others being Wichita State and Weber State. He plans to visit all three schools and may consider other visits if interested schools like UCLA, Georgia Tech, and Marquette pull the trigger on their offers.

I'm not sure, but I think Sherman trimmed his list down to Miami, Wichita, and Weber. He is a 4-Star Recruit.

I plan to watch as closely as I can for Omar or Jeremiah at Saturday's game. I think that, at least, one of them will be there. If they are with a coach it is likely that they would be seen in the luxury box area. I hope that is true because I work in that general area and may see them. If they are with the players, they would likely be in the student section. If that is where they are I probably won't see them. I usually see at least one of the coaches wandering through the Wildcat club area.

Come on November, Hurry Up. :wall:

Pretty exciting that Weber has a 4 Star recruit coming in for a visit. Weber is fighting for recruits against Miami and Houston. Very Cool!! And what is best, Weber has a great shot at getting Omar!! We have some intangibles that the other schools recruiting Omar can only dream about having. Pretty significant things too.

The key to getting recruits to commit is getting them here for visits. Once they visit, they generally love everything about the campus, the Dee, and the program. I've read Tweets from kids who have visited, and their comments say it all. So, if he is indeed visiting, I like our chances.

Last I heard, he was planning to take at least two more visits before he makes up his mind. I'm not certain, but I think that would be Wichita State and Miami. I think there are some others still after him as well. At Miami he is about 4th on their list and about 3rd on Wichita State's.

It would be a tragedy to see him ride the pine for three years at one of those places. Scouts can't see you if you're not playing. They don't assign style points for how you sit on the bench.

So many of these kids have a hard time seeing through the BS that all of these recruiters are putting out in front of them. It can be a little shocking when somebody deals strait up with them.

I hope that Omar is able to figure these things out, or he could be an unhappy camper a few years from now.

Anyway it goes, we love the kid and hope it all works out for him where ever he goes. If he wants to come to Weber and work hard, he can be an immediate star. :thumb: :thumb:

Looking at our roster for next year, there is a huge opportunity for lots of playing time at the PF. Im going to assume that next year Bolomboy moves to the center position. If Omar were to come here, he very well could be starting at the PF along side Joel. YIKES!!! The other option would be having Fuller or Hill play the PF, but I think Hill is more suited for the SF. I have never seen Fuller play, but from what I have heard he would be the perfect "spark off the bench kind of player" at either the SF or PF. I don't know about the roster situation at Wichita State or Miami, but I doubt Omar would have the opportunity to play as much as a Freshman there. I heard that Jeremy Senglin and Omar are very good friends. He would have a great opportunity to start and play with Jeremy for 3 straight years. That's cool to think about. Assuming we get Omar and Jeremiah, Im going to predict our starting 5 next year will be 1. Senglin 2. Wheelright 3. Hill 4. Sherman 5. Bolomboy. Our top 5 bench players would be Jefferson, Gittens, Williams, Fuller and Hajek. I would love to redshirt Braxton and Richardson. Throw in Van Pelt for depth and that is a very talented team. Come on Omar and Jeremiah!!!!!

If Jeremiah is not a starter, he would certainly be the first guard off the bench, and get starters minutes. He is way too good to not be on the floor a bunch. The same goes for Omar. Hill and Fuller are very similar players. They can play the 3 or the 4 spot. However, in our offense, the 3s and 4s are not that interchangeable. 2s, 3s and 1s are much more flexible from a coaching point of view. I would say that they will use those two where they do us the most good this year and that could change by next year. After watching Omar play, I think he could play the 3 spot as well. One of the things I really like about Fuller is that he transitions and runs the floor really well. If he is on the end of a break, he will finish. If he is not filling that role, he immediately looks to set a pick for his team mate.

Omar is headed to Wichita State this weekend. I think we will have a clearer understanding of where and what Omar wants to do next Monday. I have no idea where he was this past weekend. I have a feeling at Georgia Tech or Miami. But from what I have seen, Miami wasn't planning on bringing him in till they had gone through some of their other recruits. That too me should be a clear sign...I'd want to go somewhere where I was the top choice, especially if I was a 4 Star recruit.

Omar is definitely our TOP CHOICE!! Omar you'd look pretty good playing in the Dee wearing purple and white!! Come to Weber!!

Anyone have time to go to Wichita this weekend and sit outside their basketball facility wearing purple? Maybe holding a sign that says "Omar we want you more than they do".
