Anyone have time to go to Wichita this weekend and sit outside their basketball facility wearing purple? Maybe holding a sign that says "Omar we want you more than they do".

If anyone wants to front my expenses, I'm in!

I don't want to rain on your parade, but I am sure that would be an NCAA recruiting violation. You might be able to do something like that on our campus, if you are a student, but even that might be a step too far. As a fan or a booster, we are not able to have any planned interaction with a prospect or their families. Coaches and staff can interact by the rules only.

Just sayin'... :twocents:

I don't know Olds? I'm pretty sure, as long as our Weber State representative isn't contacting him directly, I don't see what would be wrong having someone at Wichita State with a sign saying "Go to Weber," as being an NCAA violation. Only if we contact him directly is it a violation. Wichita State is a public institution. Freedom of Speech!!   I'm pretty sure none of us are really serious about it.

DJ STRYDE get yer butt down to Kansas this weekend!! :kisswink:

I'm sure that the NCAA is not really into 'freedom of speech'. They restrict the he!! out of it. Freedom, in general, is not a valued commodity to them.

Just ask North Dakota

Having seen him play in person, I thought a more in depth evaluation would be appropriate here. First, let me say that I really liked his game and think that he can become a real monster in our program. He is a big man who can really handle the ball. He can put it on the floor on the break, sees the floor well and is a good passer for a big man. He has a nice looking, soft jump shot with range out to the three point line. He has a variety of of post and mid range moves to get his shots off. He seems to work hard at playing defense as well. The only knocks I would have on him were that he did not seem to be in the condition required to play at that speed and in our altitude. His body was a little soft for a big man, although, he didn't play soft at all. I think, with a few weeks of conditioning and some work in the weight room, all of that could change in a hurry. If he had the body to go along with his skill set, he would be a five star, one and done type guy. He needs to go to a place where he can play right out of the gate while working on these other things. If he goes to a place where he sits on the bench for a few years, he may stay soft for ever and not reach his potential.

I really think that we are the best place for him. :thumb: :thumb:

I didn't get to watch for too long, but I did get to see him throw down some of his skills. What was overall impressive was the increase in talent exhibited on the court. Sherman, from what I saw, would really benefit from some John Henderson training and playing in a system like Rahe's. Wichita State fans are starting to throw him under the bus, saying he isn't good enough for their program and that he doesn't have the skill set to play at their school , that is fine. We will take him in a heart beat. Give this kid some solid direction and college level trainers and he will become something special. A one and done type, well, maybe not, but he definitely could end up in "The League." He would do that here at Weber!!

I was thinking about the difference between Weber's first team under Rahe and where the program is now.  Coach is doing an amazing job.

I feel that he has a lot of athletic potential, unrealized as it may be. He showed signs of quickness on some really nice up and under moves around the basket. He also had a really quick turnaround jumper. He just got gassed running up and down the floor and had next to no muscle definition. He does posses a big, barrel chested frame. If he were to start doing the same workouts as Bolomboy, all I could say is wow. He would be scary for opposing teams. He seems to have a nose for the ball and positions himself well for rebounding. He didn't show great leaping ability, but that could also be a conditioning thing. Plus, he was playing against Bolomboy. It's hard to look like you are getting up when the guy next to you is getting as high as he does.

Come on Omar, we want you and you want us. Make a commitment. :thumb:

It could be a while for Omar to make his choice. That is OK. He needs to be sure when he decides to be a wildcat. We want him at 100% commitment.

Well, Omar has now been to three schools, from what I am aware of. He has visited Weber, Georgia Tech, and Wichita State. Miami didn't have a date for him to visit, but had him down for sometime in October, if they decided to bring him in. Do we hear soon or just before the signing deadline?

The November signing date is not a deadline, it's the early signing date, but there is another in March.

It would be nice to get Omar to commit, but important that its a 100%, not a soft commit. You want players who want to be part of something special. You have to be careful that we recruit great talent AND players who fit into our culture! I think this kid can, but Coach Rahe has made it clear that its about the program. You can't tell a kid he's a savior and at the same time tell him to play team ball. This has got to be a mutual beneficial relationship or its not going to work.

Look at Kentucky last year, amazing talent, but a nonperforming team.

There is a one or two week window for signing players in November. It usually starts on the second Wednesday of the month. A very large percentage of the high school kids sign within that window. A lesser percentage of the JC kids sign at that time. Who ever is left can also sign beginning the second Wednesday in April. That signing period may go a little bit longer. After the spring signing period, players can sign financial aid agreements with a school. Those are binding to the school, but not as binding to the player. With or without a Letter of Intent, to be eligible, all players must get approval from the NCAA clearinghouse. :coffee:

LOI dates this year are:

Early Signing Period -- Nov. 13-20

Late Period -- April 16 - May 21

On another note, Idaho State just got a commitment from Luzcano, the Chilean point guard from Wasatch Academy. Anybody seen him play or have any insight to his game? Tnx.

Bengal;

Wow Bengal; that kid is totally off the radar. I have not seen or heard anything about him. I do know that Wasatch gets a lot of international students, and some come here just for basketball opportunities. He sounds like a complete gamble. He could be anything from a good player to a complete waist of time. Wasatch is a small private school and the competition level is quite low. For everybody's sake, I hope he turns out to be an excellent pick up. :coffee:
