Omar Sherman

A front court of Sherman and Braxton for 3 strait years would be great, and it would allow us to move one of our bigs to the three spot. At least we would have that option. I'm not really sure if we have a shot at Omar. However, I'm sure we would take him in if we have the opportunity. :coffee:

From what I've read, Sherman was not slotted to be a starter this season. I'm guessing that had something to do with him transferring. Also read that he played mostly on the perimeter last season (took more 3 pt shots than 2 pt shots) and struggled with his defense. Of course, things would be different playing in the Big Sky. Here's hoping he doesn't make the same mistake this time around and transfer to a school where he is simply a role player. He could be a star at Weber.

Rahe likes bigs who can shoot the long-ball. Granted, Omar was only 30% from 3 last year, but that was pretty good considering who was guarding him. According to Miami fans, he got better playing with his back towards the basket as the season progressed and ended the season really having a nice game against Standford in the NIT. I agree Cat, Sherman would be an absolute star at Weber. Look at the kid from Montana, Martin Bruenig. He had about the same stats that Sherman did at Washington and then transferred to Montana and became an automatic star and really helped his team to win the Big Sky Championship last season. I think Sherman, with our current bigs, would be an absolute scary phenomenon in the Big Sky. Nobody could guard the inside. Sherman would end up being a 20 and 10 guy as a sophomore.

Here is another chance...Omar come to Weber!!

Just think of it...Sherman, Braxton, and Dallas? Can you think of a scarier trio ever in the Big Sky? The Big Sky couldn't compete with an inside that is that deep.

I'm not certain about this, but I think that Omar may have used his red shirt year already. That would mean that he would have to sit out a year and lose a year of eligibility. Once again, I am not sure of that. We would take him anyway. However, if that is true, he could end up at a JC for a year or make some other choice. :yikes:

From what I understand, he didn't. He was part of the same class as Ryan Richardson, Jeremiah Jefferson, and Zach Braxton and he played last year. He still has a red shirt.

He played as a true freshman last season. He should still have a redshirt year.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the required year off for transferring from one D1 school cannot be counted as a red shirt and in fact pretty much kills off the red shirt. The transfer carries with it a loss of a year of eligibility. This is the disincentive placed on students who wish to transfer. 5 years to fill 4 years of eligibility, right? So Sherman, wherever he ends up, will have 3 years to use up his 3 remaining years of eligibility (absent some special circumstance, of course).

I can't, because we haven't seen THIS trio at all yet. I'm optimistic, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Sherman, since he has a red shirt, has 4 years to play 3.

I think we would already know about it if Omar were coming to Weber. My guess is that he already had something picked out prior to asking for a release from Miami. We would take him if he were to show up on our doorstep, but it is not going to happen. :twocents:

This is a little surprising that he did not get picked up by a D1 school.. I felt like he had a decent year as a freshman in the ACC. I wonder if there are some things behind the scenes, grades or behavior issues.

More than likely he didn't want to sit out a year.....his only options are to go DII, DIII, NAIA, or go to a JC which seems to be the route he chose....

Personally, I think it was a good option for Omar to go the JC route. He will get to play right away, and get the chance to open up his recruiting. I hope for him, he doesn't see the stars and instead realizes which program will help him best develop, while getting an education. I don't know if Weber will have any spots available, but if he wants to come here, I'm sure the coaches would make that happen.
