Open Scholarship Spot?

Looking at his game log too he chucks up alot of shots. I think I saw 27 shots in two games. There is no way he is going to get even half of those shots on this team which would drop his points. ANd if he is "money" from the foul line he has to get there first and that requires him to continue shooting so his foul line trips will also go down. It is an interesting move to say the least

Finding out about JUCO guys is really hard. But, this tells me that Weber is looking at some. I'm sure we have a few more on the list. Yet, you don't get on Verbal Commits unless the offer has been confirmed. So, coach and staff have definitely offered Gold. I'm not to worried. I'm thinking if the coaches like him he has a lot of upside. He might be the only guy on Otero's team who can create offensively and so has to take more shots than usual. He is a sophomore too. We can potentially have a few guys just like him, with his shooting %, next year. So... :thumb:

If this kid is a potential starter, then for sure the coaching staff is thinking of playing Gittens at the 3 next year.
Anyone who is able to get to the line 20 times in one game, clearly is able to get to the rim.
Looking at that video I two things I really liked - good shooting form and the ability to knock down the 15-20 foot jumper on a pull-up. Not many kids these days can hit that shot. They can either shoot the spot up 3, or they can drive it to the basket. But they can't pull up and hit a mid-range jumper. A lost skill, it seems to me.

I thought the same thing watching -- and believe it's becoming a lost art as well. The Y's Haw's makes his living from 12 to 18, but he can't create off the dribble and has to catch and shoot. It's important to have some quickness to make that shot effective. He did seem quick, but JC's are famous for playing weak defense, which is always the biggest challenge when they get to D1. But I'd love a shooter and he has a nice stroke (but it is a highlight film).

Bolomboy is our guy who needs to develop that shot. He hits a lot of them when he takes them, but seems hesitant to do so. He starts drilling 12-15 jump shots and he will get to the rack easier. Right now defenders give him that shot, but he doesn't take it.

Agreed. Joel just need that confidence. I think at time he is just worried about doing things wrong so he doesnt at all. I know bamf really helped him last yr especially with free throws. Him and tres just need to catch, face, and knock down that J.

Pretty sure this is another video of Chris. Same number and look, but shows his ability to get to the rim.

This article talks, briefly mind you, about the role Chris is playing for the current Otero team. He is their impact player and the only player returning from a team that won the district championship. So...some bonuses here. First, he knows what it takes to win and has been part of a winning team. He understands that a championship team is a team first and that you play within a system to win. Next, he has been a huge cog in the wheel of success for Otero the past few years. He is their go to guy. At Weber, I can't imagine that he wouldn't be a starter immediately. This might be a good addition, since it won't put as much pressure on Jeremiah right away. Maybe he likes that though. Who knows. Heavens, Jeremiah might be coming in and be a back up at both the 1 and 2, or could be the starter. My biggest area of concern is the 3. Evidently Rahe's is the 2??

Next year, if he were to join the team, Chris would be a JR.

Just for kicks and giggles...I looked up some area players.

Snow College:
FR G/F: Walter Wright -he has a 4 to 1 A/TO rate and is hitting 33.3% of his 3's, and averages 13.8 ppg.

Western Wyoming:
SO G/F: Daveon Gibson- 3's 42.5% and 13.5 ppg??
(remember Mike Pelo?? He is 38.9 from 3 and averaging 11.2 up at WWCC)

Eastern Utah:
SO G: Kendahl Amerson 43.2% from 3 and 19.2 overall

Southern Idaho:
SO G: Montigo Alford 46.5% from 3 and 14.3 ppg

SLCC:
Jaden Jackson 49.6 from 3 and 11.4 ppg
Just for kicks former WSU recruit Neal Monson is at 15ppg at SLCC.

There are good local JUCO's. I'm wondering whether or not Weber is recruiting any of these guys.

Kendahl Amerson?? Huh... Weber has had some pretty good players come from Eastern Utah. Two are being inducted into our HOF this March.

Bringing in this type of player makes sense to me. Looking at our roster and knowing what I know, ( which is practically nothing) this is what I would do with that open spot. We lose lots of scoring with the graduation of Berry and some with Richardson. We have a big hole at the SG sport. We all hope that Jeremiah is going to be the next Lillard, but we don't know yet. He is only going to be a Freshman, but I have a good feeling he will be all that. In the meantime we bring in a solid JC combo guard to help out and create competition for that open SG spot. I'm not worried about the SF position. I believe Gittens starts there next year and don't forget we still have Royce there for another year as a solid back up. Then we have Ryan Richardson waiting in the wings. I think as soon as he gets some added strength and weight, then he is going to be a stud for us. I like who we have coming back at the 4 and 5 spots next year. I see this as our starting lineup next year.
1. Senglin
2. ??????
3. Gittens
4. Hill
5. Bolomboy

First guys off the bench. WIlliams, Hajek, Fuller, Van Pelt and any one or two of our incoming high school kids. I would like to redshirt 2 of them if we can. Richardson for sure to add strength and muscle and either Braxton or Hunter.

Thats a very athletic and strong starting 4 right there. Our defense will be very good, but I worry about scoring especially outside shooting. Bringing in a guy like Golden would help. :) I think Coach Rahe should hire me as a consultant. ha ha. Great win last night. Other than the TO"s and tickey tack fouls we are looking very good. :)

I have good friend in Highlands Ranch. I just talked to him this week about Braxton. He thinks that this kid is the real deal and will be ready to contribute right away. He thinks that Braxton will be ready to play good minutes next year.

 I agree. I love how an article described Braxton as a Point Forward. At times, he is bringing the ball up the court and is one of the best passers in his league. A big as a good passer? Uh...YES!! I'm all for it. He is fairly quick big, solid passer, great rebounder, and can score from just about anywhere on the court. Best thing, he isn't small. He is a stocky build. He reminds me as a far more athletic Steve Panos. He isn't going to be Red-Shirted. And he can't be. Weber will need him for sure. Weber will use all of their bigs next year.

What is hilarious, next year especially, Weber will have the personnel available to create a lot of match up issues. Hill and Fuller gives Weber a dynamic that a lot of teams in the Sky don't have. Guys who can play the 3 or 4, along with the guards who can play the 1, 2, or 3. HA!! Oh and front line ranging form 6-6/6-7 at the 3, 6-9 at the 4, and 7-0 at the 5.

In talking to our coaches about this, there are not nearly as many quality JC players now as there were 10 years ago. The dynamics in the JC ranks have changed quite a bit. There are still good players, but you aren't going to find an Eddy Gill or a Ruben Nembhard out there today. With that in mind, they are looking for ball handling, leadership, defense and shooting, in that order. They feel that we are thinnest at the point next year, with Jordan's graduation and the replacement coming in being a freshman. Hunter may well be able to step in and contribute as a true freshman, but that is a gamble for such a key position. The hope is that whomever we get for that position, that they will also be able to play a little wing, when needed.

At this point, they are still working on the list to bring in for visits, sometime in March. All of those listed above, and probably 20 more, are on the watch list. Honestly, I don't think that they have prioritized their list just yet. I expect a solid talent, no matter who they sign. I don't expect a superstar. :twocents:
