Oregon State Reeling from Suspensions/Injuries

After looking at the OSU message board, it's crazy how many OSU starters and key players are injured or suspended for our Week 1 game. Their best offensive weapon (James Rodgers) is out due to injury and their giant run-stopper is suspended for domestic violence...

This could be interesting...

Probable starting OSU WR Brandon Cooks went down with an ankle injury today. Looks like he could miss our game also...

Beaves lose ANOTHER starter due to injury. Top CB needs shoulder surgery...

I wouldn't count too much on this, they have a depth reflective of a Pac 12 program.

Perhaps a bout of food poisoning is in the cards?

They spanked us a few years ago, I'd expect the same typical BCS vs. FCS matchup.

Wasn't it like 38-3? Not too bad... lol

40-7, but they were playing everyone on the sideline. It was a scrimmage for them.

I think that was year two of the horrible Moose experiment.

Yeah, if I remember correctly we dismantled St. Mary's and then Lead broke his arm and we had a terrible year...

It was year 1, game 1 for the Moose...lets put that bad nightmare behind us.

I have been trolling the OSU boards. Here are some things I noticed, in no particular order:

Casual posters remember when the moose was loose, and think the score will look like that. Here is what an OU fan wrote regarding this game.

Re: Beavs vs Sacramento State

I was looking at SacSt's schedule results last season. A few things that jumped out at me was that they put 24 on Weber St (ranked 20), 25 on Montana (ranked 14) and 61 on 10th ranked Montana St. They closed the season strong with 4 out of 5 wins, scoring 113 points while only allowing 42 in those wins - including a win vs Portland St. Their only loss was by one point. A few years back they nearly beat Colorado St.

I don't know about the defense, but they return key offensive players. Oregon State on the other hand closed out last season with 4 losses in 5 games, including a blowout, a loss to a weak UCLA team and a trashing by WSU. OSU is replacing a lot of key players....

I know it's the Big Sky and all, but we've seen crazier things. App St and Michigan?

I'm just concerned at the loss of key players on OSU and the lack of talent and depth on the roster. While I can't say I've watched Sac St in depth, they appear to have a balanced offense that is capable of exploiting either run or pass defense based on matchups. This could be a close one. If it ends poorly for the Beavs, it sets the tone for a long season....

SacSt's 2010 stats:
Team Stats
TDs Yds PassYds RushYds
Offense 40 379.1 208.7 170.4
Defense 33 334.0 221.6 112.4

Not making any comments either way- just interesting to see the comments.

Interesting OSU trend:

15. Anticipate a big season from Oregon State QB Ryan Katz. He's in his second season as the Beavers' starter, and second-year quarterbacks have flourished under coach Mike Riley. Derek Anderson passed for more than 4,000 yards as a second-year starter in '03. Matt Moore increased his touchdown passes by seven (to 18) and reduced his interceptions by 12 (to seven) in '06. Sean Canfield was named first-team All-Pac-10 after passing for 3,271 yards with 21 TDs and only seven interceptions as a second-year starter in '08. Katz wasn't bad last season, but if the trend holds, he could be exceptional this season.

The Beavers start out slow, and with the rash of injuries (maybe the top 3 WR's are going to be out), they're experiencing, now's a great time for the Hornets to nip this underrated Pac 10, I mean 12, team.

Maybe just like a few years ago with the basketball team taking one on the Beavers home court, it'd be grand for the Hornets to pull it off. Going to be very, very tough though.

Welcome Stinger. I just hope we don't have injuries, the next week is at Cedar City, a place that has always given the Hornets fits.

This is a $12M football program against a $2.7M football program. How much are we getting paid for our Thermopylae?

This is my biggest concern as well. We haven't had any luck avoiding a serious injury in these money games the past few years.

Also welcome aboard SacStinger! :)
