Well, my wife and I will also be heading south on Saturday, but maybe not quite as far as most traveling Viking fans. No, we will head down 99W to Monmouth (weather permitting) to watch Central Washington take on Western Oregon. It is a great venue with a great game day vibe. Go Vikings, go Wolves.

I watched a bit of CWU last weekend. I'd rather watch some real football.

Ducks DC Leavett really likes Alexander.

Real football is played at many levels. If our team was as well coached as Central Washington or Linfield you might say PSU/UO was "real football".

50-17. Real football?

Viks can say they played Oregon. What was WOU's excuse?

Well, we played CWU and they are good.

We were hoping to watch a good game. The game -- not so good. The hotdogs quite good.

This weekend was an annual golf tournament, so I was only able to catch the first quarter on the radio.

Some thoughts:

- I can understand penalties like pass interference when you’re playing up since there’s more talent on one side of the ball than the other, but kick catching interference, offsides when your punter pinned them at the one yard line, and substitution infractions are inexcusable.

- Was that the first time that we’d seen the four tight end set with all four on the right side of the formation this season? Talk about strong right.

- Other than Taumoepeau, our offense doesn’t have a whole lot going on this season. Hopefully it’s a breakout for the offense on Saturday vs College of Idaho.

- No turnovers committed. Good! No turnovers forced. Bad!

- Matt Richert is filling in nicely for Tom Hewitt. I like his style.

Well I would have to say I came away from the game a bit encouraged. It reinforced what I have been hearing/seeing. Strengths are defense front seven, QB is going to be fine. Play calling, Oline and DB's need work.

But the score ended about where I thought and there were times we seemed on the verge of playing pretty good on both sides of the ball. I feel confident enough I predict a win in our near future...
