Players leaving....?

Hearing from some players in the program, Redshirt Freshman Tight End Jacob Drage, Freshman Defensive Back Josh Peterson, as well as a few other players are not returning.

What's the average number that leave/drop out/transfer out of a program every year? I imagine at least a handful leave, even when everything is going well (due to things like playing time or school issues)?

I tried doing a little research and its a bit of a grey area about how many players transfer every year but from what I did find is that UNC is not alone and players leave for various reasons at every school at every level every season. And Basketball programs were worse than football with one story reporting epidemic proportions with transfers.

The thing about basketball though is there is no penpenalty for a player transferring. I can imagine around 5 to 10 players leaving this year.

Was up in Greeley last night, met up with some of the players that still play at the good old Roma restaurant...

Heard some stories of players leaving, others wanting to leave and some planning to leave in some of the more important positions.

On top of that most of the players are more upset than before, coaches have lost their minds and are basically treating the kids in some sort of dictatorship.

That's great! I hope they move on to places they're more happy.

Wow!
You are correct Beardown,
obviously, whoever stays, stays and whoever goes, goes.....at this point nothing can be done. The real shame is that these players have developed relationships with one another and a great university. These are not"free agents" who want to go to the highest bidder, they're student athletes. .....and these are future donors to UNC (hopefully).
The question that can never be answered assuredly is in all this mess, what have we all lost? And why.

Also heard some things this weekend about players who are planning on not returning after summer.......if we're not signing wideouts next month we're going to be in big trouble.

Rumor has it more close to 5 players did not return this week, including a saftey, defensive end, tight end, and I believe a few other positions.

Also hearing a lot about players not returning after summer

It will be interesting to see who is no longer on the roster for Spring ball and then to see who drops off before the final Fall roster. I have also heard a number of rumors, but right now rumors are just rumors. My guess is that, after what happened to Ochiato, any athlete considering leaving is probably playing it pretty close to their vest.

Looks like the Tight End position is going to be thin unless they get some commitments. Christian Backes, a redshirt freshman has also left the team

That sucks. Where is Backes going?

I kind of understand that Dunn didn't want to seem too hasty in making a change in the football staff (don't agree, but understand). I don't expect Collins to survive another year, i doubt the exodus of players is going unnoticed. If we don't have a winning record at the bye week, the die will be cast.
