And its losses were to two top 5 teams teams by a combined 8 points. The Cats should have been hosting even if UND bid $1M against $1. Two major issues wrong with how the NCAA selects and runs this tournament. One, why are teams even bidding? Is the NCAA really money poor? The association made $1.16B in 2021 and is set to make almost $3B in 2022 (supposedly a non-profit). I have a feeling they can afford a few charters with the home team splitting lodging and transportation fees. Those fees would be far lower than any bid (from what I understand, UND gave the NCAA $150K for a home game and doesn't get that back). Its corrupt, but to keep the NCAA happy, it can still take 85% of ticket sales to help "support the tournament."
Next, I'm upset about this regionalization garbage. If the NCAA is fine with sending two FBS teams (Miami Ohio vs. UAB) to play in an absolutely inconsequential bowl game in the Bahamas, it should be able to send equal member institutions anywhere in the nation to play in a real playoff deciding an actual national champion. USE Actual seeds. Why the hell are two Big Sky schools playing each other in the second round? This is the third time this has happened to Weber in recent playoff history. Personally, I think it is set up this way more to protect weaker conferences than it is about saving money.
Change needs to happen. I think every Big Sky school, sans Montana, can agree that Haslam should not be part of the selection committee. Send ISU's AD. She really doesn't have a dog in the fight. Haslam was dishonest and used his position to get UM in, and then to get a home game when the GRIZZ did not earn or deserve it. How many schools got screwed over because of this SEMO, UCD, etc etc etc.
Amen to everything you said! Committee sets up East coast conferences brackets to advance their crappy teams. If Weber State was the highest rated unseeded team (which everyone believes they deserved a seed), why did they draw a tough North Dakota team instead of a St. Francis? I’d be upset if UC Davis, they played Sac State tough and Montana got blown out, and Montana’s AD probably bargained away a seed for Weber State bracketed in with Montana State to get his team in. Definitely shouldn’t be an AD of a playoff eligible or bubble team. It really is corrupt, but still miles better than FBS’s Dog and Pony show because it can be settled in the field once you get in.
UM blown out by Sac St? What…. Griz lost in OT with a crappy backup QB. Davis lost by 6 in regulation. Just setting your facts straight. Griz lost by 7 in OT, and Davis lost by 6 in regulation. Who played them tougher?
Agreed you played Sac. St. tough (still lost) but you got decimated by your rival MSU, lost to us, and got beat at home by Idaho. 7-4 didn’t deserve to get Montana in and your AD being on the committee and the school willing to throw cash around just reek of conspiracy and collusion. Bottom line the AD from Montana doesn’t care about the other Big Sky schools and the process needs changed badly!! Even if the committee “felt” Montana deserving they should’ve been on the road. The fact is the screw job was in and Montana’s AD is as crooked as a pornstars johnson!!
