I wonder if we can get the Tortoise or the Bullpen to commit to broadcasting. I have neither of those.

Is the Fox College Sports part of the sport package for Comcast?
 
Like EWU, NAU has a poor pass defense. However, I noticed that they are leading the conference in sacks. The o-line's ability to protect Hubel may be the key to the game.

Hubel showed the ability to step up in the pocket when it began to collapse to give himself a couple of extra seconds to find an open receiver on Saturday. With the QB and the line being on the same page, you can have success against a D line that may be more talented on paper.

Don't know. Is that from College Sporting News? No doubt that NAU will be favored. This looks to be one of the best NAU teams in years.

If the Vikings pull off another win over a nationally ranked conference foe, should you start calling them “Giant Killers”?

Hardly.

Still, a victory Saturday at Northern Arizona would make for the best back-to-back results, by far, of the Jerry Glanville era.

Last week, the Vikings dismantled Eastern Washington, leaving the Eagles’ defense befuddled as Drew Hubel passed for 623 yards and five touchdowns.

NAU, ranked 17th and 18th in the two polls, has the nation’s top run defense, but the Lumberjacks haven’t been tested by the pass like they will be by Portland State.

And the Vikings say they are playing with the proverbial sense of desperation, knowing that a second loss (they’re 1-1 in the Big Sky) would all but eliminate them from the conference title race.

But Flagstaff always has been a difficult place for visiting teams, and after watching game videotape, the Lumberjacks are sure to try a different defensive approach from Eastern Washington. Hubel might not get as much time to operate in the pocket this week.

The Jacks have a bit deeper, more experienced talent pool than PSU this year, and the Vikings have yet to show that they can play great football two weeks in a row. Look for Northern Arizona to go to 3-0 in the Big Sky.

That Vanguard article was really interesting. I'd never stopped to consider how an offense like NAU's would make the blitz and "gang tackling" less effective. It makes me wonder if the spread of the spread (sorry, couldn't resist) will make JG's 3-4 less effective over time. The 3-4 seems to be a pro-style defense geared at stopping pro-style offenses, but will the popularity of the spread on the college level put 3-4 teams at a disadvantage?

I would think that JG would call less blitzes against an offense like NAU's where the option will be seen on a regular basis, as not to risk taking the OLBs out of the play. That being said, we'lll need a decent rush from the three guys up front to get pressure. The 4-3 isn't really a pursuit defense, but look what the Wofford did to UM in the playoffs last year.

This is going to be a tough one…. Lance Kriesien their QB moves/scrambles like no other… It will be interesting to see how Glanvilles 3-4 responds… We really need to attempt to pursue and pressure, but do we end up playing a zone coverage?

Drew finally looked like a champ last week, stepping up and out of the pocket when it collapsed around him. PROPS to him and I hope he stays calm this week. The wide-outs are small, quick and have good hands… Hopefully they, NAU, doesn’t use our size against up here.

The “D” folded or got tired in the last 1/2 last week. (they looked great in the first ½) Hope they are rested and prepared for a shoot-out!!!

Was our defense tired or were we defending against the big play last week?

Also, what effect will the 7000' elevation have on the offense and defense? Passes may float in the thin air, while our defense may get gassed early.
