Bring Back Troy

Unless TT is the OC, and dudes start jumping back on to the roster… I am going to have a hard time reupping 8 season tickets, and my donations. I’ll still volunteer to help the student athletes like I do now with post football life stuff, but my god. What are we doing.

Am I missing something? This isn't a done deal, is it?
It sounds like multiple sources (including our reliable OSH) that Alonzo Carter will get his first HC gig with the Hornets, and is forming his staff right now, with an official announcement coming after the CSU waiting period passes.

So coveted that the departing head coach didn’t elect to keep the job for even a full calendar year. 🤣

If Carter ends up being hired, I’ll hope for the best but I can’t think of a less inspiring hire.

While I didn’t expect Brennan Marion to remain at Sac State for long, I was at least excited and intrigued by the hire and all the subsequent moves. Marion was a fairly hot coaching name, largely due to the “GoGo” success and hype.

But this potential hire will hit much differently, creating nowhere near the level of interest that Marion’s hire did or that Troy Taylor’s would.
Coveted?

Can TT sue based on racial discrimination? He was obviously without a doubt the best proven, most qualified candidate for the job.

Been following this program for 50 years, season ticket holder, and I'm officially out until Wood is gone...If there even is a football program when he's done with it. Screw this guy. Wouldn't be shocked if Orr is gone by the end of the year.

Can't stand ego driven people like this.

This was posted this morning. Don't know when it was taped. Talks coaching search, stadium, FBS and that AC would be an "interesting hire," "less of a big splash hire. " Next year's football schedule has only 3 games scheduled and the 4th has no set date. Also talks about basketball.

Glad to hear you are an alum that still has a vested interest. IMO it just doesn’t show at times when you futility attempt to defend the indefensible.

As for your email idea — it in no way draws my ire. Live and let live. I just recognize it as a complete waste of time and explained why. I’ll further point out that I never once said a negative thing about the idea, though, and wouldn’t have done so at all until you positioned it as some kind of requisite for being critical of the university and it’s inept President.

Nothing personal toward you, of course. Even though we disagree quite a bit, your contributions and participation on this forum are among the reasons I’ve been a member here as long as I have. Through many trying years as a fan of Sac State programs, no less.

Regardless of our differences of opinion, one thing we all have in common is the longing to finally see this universities athletics programs rise and succeed, with state of the art facilities being built along the way.
I've been firmly in the rehire Troy camp. The point of my post was that most folks on here are viewing this through the lens of a Hornet football fan and not as someone making the decisions to carry out a campus-wide/political agenda. Anyone who has been in high level decision making situations, especially with staffing moves, knows it's not just based on merit.

Someone touched on the allegations used to oust Troy from Stanford and his open lawsuit with ESPN as a reason to not hire him. IMO those are valid concerns, it also brings up questions as to what behavior and actions occurred while he was here but was overlooked because of the winning. Food for thought.

Regarding Coach Carter, it's a pretty "meh" hire to me. We'll have to see what staff he brings in/retains and how he operates. As far as I know, he hasn't been involved in any play calling duties at either SJSU or UofA so I would imagine he plans to bring on an offensive coordinator who will handle the offense. Time well tell.

With the delicate fair weather fans of Sacto, I am quite pleased at the 9,136 fans for the Richmond game. It was pouring literal buckets of the pineapple express monsoon before, during and after the game.
I was there, I'm well aware of the weather conditions. The revisionist history in my head had the UIW in front of a packed crowd...then pulling up the box score and seeing the reality of a meager 13.7k attended that game...oof.

Coveted? lol.
The last 3 Hornet head coaches ended up in the FBS at programs with a much higher prestige than ours. For all the negative narratives surrounding our program, that fact seems to get glossed over the most.

Valid point, the same reasons most are excited for Sac to go give it a go at FBS are the same reasons it was an attractive job.

The political nature of the CSU system and pushing other agendas besides excellence might ruin the whole thing, including the hire. Being a member of some racial committee shouldn’t allow one candidate to be pushed to the forefront. the thing is, it doesn’t mean he can’t succeed, but he hasn’t had the responsibility of running an offense much less a whole program.

Troy return comes with baggage of current lawsuit, but imagine if he had this level of financial support when he was here.

But bottom line is Sac might be scrounging for not only players but games next year. Expect a road heavy schedule.

If it is such a coveted job, and per Dr. Wood, attracting “high caliber” interest then why are the finalists a former coach dealing with allegations and a lawsuit, a running back coach who has never been an offensive coordinator, let alone a head coach at D3, D2 or D1, and a former NFL player who has only one year of head coaching experience? Let’s see. No football conference, a 2026 schedule with only 3 scheduled games, and a record of undelivered promises.

I’m sure he can, but would doing so be worthwhile? That kind of thing would seem difficult to prove, especially in reverse.

Although the inept Wood has made so many ridiculous public, non-inclusive comments during his tenure that perhaps the right law firm could do something with it. IDK.

Just off the top of my head, the dolt has openly spoke about the university emulating an HBCU and working toward “eliminating whiteness” — though he rambles incoherently when pressed to explain what the latter actually means.

A PHD isn’t required to understand that those types of comments/goals/agendas/mandates are in no way inclusive and, instead, represent segregation and whatever “ist” or “ism” word you’d like to attach to it.

If those types of directives are indeed filtering down from a board of trustees to a State-run public institution — it also doesn’t take a PHD to understand that it subverts federal law.

Question is, who has the time, money, fortitude, and balls to bring forth that type of fight?
