Lets talk about the game in November, Any fan can roam on a message board and say "We will beat you this year!" But can you back it up? Give me some football talk fans. Who are your key players, do they match up well? All that stuff.

My Take:

Portland State @ Northern Colorado, November 17th 2007

In UNC's state I'd expect very cold conditions, 20s 30s? Thought this will affect both teams I think UNC will be more adapted to it, which will be in favor for UNC. Portland State brings back what could be the best offense in the FCS, thanks to the returning of Mouse Davis. The R&S offense has thrived at the College level, ever since Hawaii introduced it they have been in the Top 5 for total offense every year. Mouse does this offense slightly different then June but pretty much the same. QB Brian White is projected to lead the way, he will have a WR corps ridden with transfers to throw to. Former FB now RB Bobby McKlintock will be the blocker for White. There are 2 transfers at RB, 3 at WR, 2 at LB, and 3 in the secondary, Jerry really did his homework. On defense we gain what was a potential all MWC player in LB Andrew Schantz, who will be in Portland this year, he will lead a fairly strong defense. I don't know much about players names for UNC but I can say this PSU team is very loaded, we have an FBS-type offense talent wise, and defensively, well we hold teams like New Mexico to 6 points. Like I said don't know much about UNC, but last year in Portland I could honestly say that was the worst football team I've ever seen, and I don't think they will have some drastic turn around. With the loss of your RB I expect UNC to pretty much duplicate what they did in 06', except this time beat Sac.st and WSU. When PSU comes to Greeley I see talent overpowering the weather. And PSU coming away with a 38-10 win.

To be honest, it is too early to post anything that sounds intelligent on the Bears. There are way too many unknowns. Here is what little I know.
1. Last year you caught us very early in the season and had an easy time of it. New systems both on offense and defense with coordinators who frankly didn't have a clue what they were doing and were trying to run schemes without the right athletes (I mean we had tight ends flexed out as wide outs trying to run the stupid spread offense, it was ridiculous).
2. This year we have a new OC - thank goodness. He is experienced (another plus) and from what I hear is going to take us more back to our roots of a balance pro style attack. Hopefully this is true because this is what we did and did well for the past 20 years.
3. We are going to have a young team again but will be much improved at the skill positions of QB and WR. At QB last years starter has a year of experience and is being pushed by a transfer from Indiana. At WR we get back Andy Birkel who will be the best receiver in the conference IMHO. RB is an uncertainty but we have a stud recruit there.
4. We have most of the OL back so that will be good for contuinity. All in all on offense I am expecting much bigger and better things. We were absolutetly terrible here last year.
5. Defense is a complete unknown to me at this point.

As for the game in November. I love that we are catching you at home late in the year. Hopefully a cold front with snow and wind hits which will put a serious hurt on your beloved R&S offense. I will hold off on game predictions until I see how things are playing out during the year, but I would expect a lot more out of the bears than what you saw last year. I remember when I was in school playing PSU in the playoffs and you barely eked out a win (after our kicker missed 5 FG's). Very soon you will find wars like this with the Bears again. This year is still a rebuilding year though.

That's more like it. Hopefully UNC can play like a DI team this year. Weather could affect us, but I'm sure Jerry will prepare for that.

Did Mouse run the R&S when he was at PSU before? Seems like the rain you get could impact you at home some too.

back in the 80's yes, he over did it a little then. He once had the QB throw 70 passing attempts. When you guys play Hawaii Brennan will only throw about 35 passes, due to him being very very accurate, Brian White of PSU? tough to say, I know he doesn't have Brennan type accuracy so maybe 45-50 attempts per game? If you complete you passes you don't need many attempts to throw. That's what made Brennan so incredible last year. I doubt we have a QB that good but heres hoping Brian or Tygue can get it done.

As for the rain, it didn't rain at any of our home games last year, not hard any way. It would affect us though, gotta keep the ball dry I guess. Jerry will definitely be on top of that. It was pouring in the Spring game but both QB's had over 300 passing yards so......

You would definitely think they'll have the running game in good order because you can't always count on good weather like Hawaii can. Montana can be a cold place in November. If you do make the playoffs you never know where you can end up.

Yep gotta be prepared, I know Hawaii played in the snow against Utah State last year, they won 63-10 so didn't faze them...but were not Hawaii.
