Game Day: Portland State at Seattle

http://www.oregonlive.com/vikings/index.ssf/2010/03/game_day_portland_state_at_sea.html

When: 8 tonight

Where: KeyArena (17,072), Seattle

Records: Portland State (12-17); Seattle (15-14)

On the air: TV on FSN (Comcast 34); radio on KPDQ (800)

Probable starters: Portland State -- F Julius Thomas (10.5 ppg, 5.8 rpg), F Paul Guede (5.1 ppg), C Jamie Jones (14.4 ppg, 7.9 rpg), G Melvin Jones (11.4 ppg), Dominic Waters (19.4 ppg, 4.9 apg); Seattle -- F Aaron Broussard (10.;6 ppg, 5.2 rpg), C Gavin Gilmore (4.2 ppg), G Garrett Lever (3.6 ppg), G Cervante Burrell (11.0 ppg, 3.6 apg), G Chris Gweth (11.1 ppg).

Briefly: The Vikings hope to avoid any injuries and sustain the momentum from last weekend's victories over Idaho State and Weber State as they face the Redhawks for the second time this season and with an eye on Saturday's Big Sky Conference quarterfinal game against Montana State in Bozeman. In the last meeting, Broussard's three-point field goal with 0.5 seconds remaining lifted Seattle to an 80-77 victory at the Stott Center.

Ugh. That was a really ugly performance by the Vikings. Doesn't Geving coach any defense? Why wasn't this team wasn't ready to play? Embarrassing. Swept by Seattle U in their first season in DI. When was the last time PSU lost 18 games in a season? This program has taken a step backwards. Is it too late to swap Geving for Cameron Dollar?

Look at minutes played. Geving was resting his starters for the tourney.

I hope Waters' foot is alright.

Worst record since Heath Schroyer's first year trying to rebuild from the Sobotka mess.

From the Oregonian, "The big issue for Portland State in the first half was rebounding. The Vikings were outrebounded 27-9 and allowed 11 offensive rebounds, many of which Seattle converted into easy baskets."

Cameron Dollar in his first year takes a program to a winning record in their first year in DI. Geving takes a winning program and in his first year gets 18 + 1 loss and will finish with 19 total losses.

yes nine is awkward and yes they do fit better in WCC for several reasons but they could work in the BSC too!

Pepperdine is of a different faith than that of the rest of the WCC. Seattle is the same faith. My hope is that Pepperdine opts out of the WCC and Seattle takes its place.

That could help Portland through travel-pairings: Gonzaga-Seattle, San Francisco-Portland, St. Marys-Santa Clara, Loyola Marymount-San Diego.

Pepperdine could move to the Big West and that conference could set up a 12-team, two-division all-California configuration (possibly with a change of name more befitting):

Pepperdine + CS-Northridge
UC-Riverside + CS-Long Beach
UC-Irvine + CS-Fullerton

Pacific + CS-Bakersfield
UC-Davis + CS-Sacramento
UC-Santa Barbara + Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo

Good for the California schools and it gives the conference a second private institution to mirror Pacific.
