Possible Coaches

Who are some possible candidates to replace our Legendary Coach? I have a great feeling it will be a Mac type coach, someone he has groomed for the position, and is prepared to take over. In my estimation, I don't think there is an Asst. Coach on the current staff who could do the job, so in all likelihood, the coach will be coming back to Weber.

I think that the list is pretty short, but thats my opinion. Here are my choices:

Don Eck
Kevin Clune
Chad Kauhaahaa
Dave Arslanian

I hope, whoever the new coach is, that he keeps:
Kafusi
Beck
Kamaal
Zeches
Stackaruk
Zamberlin
Dyson
Hammer

I was listening to 1320 kfan when they broke the news Monday night. It was interesting to hear David Locke on kfan talk about Jerry Bovee as a good AD, and how unlike in years past Wildcat fans won't have to worry about who Bovee chooses to replace Mac. Pretty high respect coming from Locke, & Scotty G about Bovee.

I think these would be the best choices. I also wonder if Fernandez is still in the discussion. The head coaching spot at Weber can actually support a family... an assistant on the other hand....

I agree, this is a good list. I'm not familiar with Arslanian, but the other 3 are good choices. Chad is at his alma mater, but the program is struggling. Klune will always be a Defensive maniac, but he brings an edge to the game. Eck is a good recruiter, don't judge a book by it's cover, he gets the job done. so that good 'ol boy demeanor is only a shell of what's underneath. I like the list of keeps, that's a good working nucleus.

i look forward to having Mac around to work with the players; like he said, he has a vested interest in the players he recruited, and he should be able to stay on as a 'consultant' or advisor.

If it's Clune than he will keep Cookus.

I really think Coach Clune would be a VERY good head coach.

Strengths: He is a football genius. Our preparation and film breakdown suffered when he left to Utah State. Gameplan will be a plus. He does not tolerate ineptitude in any respect. People will be accountable. Defensive toughness will return, he understands offense better than our current offensive coordinator.

Weaknesses: However, he can have an abrasive personality. Also, he cannot admit or even recognize when he is wrong. Average recruiter.

I know that these could be stretches... But I thought about Robb Akey returning to his alma mater. I've read an article saying that he could be on the hot seat this season in Idaho. Also former UNC/Montana/Wyoming coach Joe Glenn... Anyone know what he's doing these days? He could be getting old though and thinking retirement. But I think the 4 choices listed above are also good. John L. Smith would also be sweet. I also thought of Dan Hawkins... He's working for ESPN right now... But I wonder if he ever wants to coach again.

Aaron Roderick would be my first choice.
I agree. Although I think Clune would be a nice fit, too. I wonder if Kevin McGiven has thrown his hat into the mix. He was a great o-coordinator for the Weebs.

Although I'm almost certain Arslanian will apply, I just can't imagine WSU re-hiring a former head coach. Has anyone ever heard of a collegiate head coach leaving and then getting re-hired at the same school years later? If so, let me know. I know he applied when Mac got hired and he was very disgruntled that he didn't get the nod.

Haha. Funny you say that. Because Arslanian told me that HIMSELF in an interview.

Only reason we are still playing football at weber is because of Dave. I was on that committee(save football) with him and there isn't a more hard working and loyal to weber guy on this planet. I don"t know if he would want to come back or not but if he did you would sure want to listen. As i recall he was the complete package for weber at the time. USU probably screwed him up so bad he wouldn't want to look at another coaching job again, they pulled the trigger after 2 years, total BS!

Absolutely. I'm Mac was a master of recruiting, Arslanian was a master of selling tickets and filling the stands. He currently runs a program for troubled youth with his brother, so I wouldn't be shocked if he showed no interest.

I believe that Kansas State re-hired a previous coach, who has done a great job of making them a relevant D-1 football team again.

I would like to see Eck get the job. This is based on what some players and recruits have expressed to me.

Look, Im probably the biggest Dave Arslanian fan around here, but to say that the stands were filled while he was here is a complete joke! Arslanian got NO support from administration and the stands were mostly empty his entire career here. Yes I do think he would do a great job as head coach here again, he is a great guy and an offensive genius.
