First off-- Great win!!!! Our guys really took care of business against 22 extra scholarships. This was exactly the way we needed to start and our defense looks PHENOMENAL.

That said, there is a lot of room for improvement, especially on O. A lot of off timing and bone headed mistakes. The good news? We can get that on film and get it cleaned up almost immediately. We're going to have to, because the team on the other side of the state line won't let us get away with it.
But...

1-0

GO EAGS!

Loved the win, but 13 penalties will not get the job done next week against a good WSU team. Loved how we grinded it out at the end!! GREAT W EAGS CONGRATS!!! Let's get us some COUGAR next week!!

eastern looked bad tonight...real bad, but idaho is a whole different level of bad. That the eags only scored 20 on perhaps the worst defense in d-1 is cause for concern. Might be a long year boys.

You are right 13 penalties won't get it done against a good WSU team, but from what I've seen tonight WSU is not a good team. I guess the great Mike Leach isn't so great after all. I like our odds against WSU.

WSU got a big name coach in hiring Leach. But, thats all they got - a big name coach. We gave Leach a good game a few years back with an EWU team that was likely not as good as we have now (sorry guys from that team!) against a team far better than what WSU has right now.

My reflections:

Offensively, I was a little disappointed in all the dropped balls and penalties. Also, it's obvious Padron isn't entirely comfortable yet, but he made some plays and is confident in the pocket. He's going to be a great QB once he gets everything under wraps. O-line is young and made WAAAAAY too many mistakes, but they are more talented and deep than last year and we will run the ball this season, which is refreshing. Loved how we totally demoralized the Idaho D line last in the game. LOVED IT!

Defensively, I loved how the guys were flying around. The front seven is very good and didn't give up a lot of plays. Hamlin was everywhere, seemed like he was in on every tackle. Minus the one big play they gave up on broken coverage, the secondary played really well and manhandled the Idaho receivers.

A+ for Special Teams. Our punter is excellent and will be an All-American this year. Great kick and punt coverage.

Good win! Great to get the season started off the right way. Yeah, we got some shit to work on...but this will be a good season.

What a great win!!! Beating an FBS team, on the road, by 17 is a great victory.

Offensively we definitely have some room to improve. Padron will begin to click more in the offense and hopefully we will eliminate a lot of the penalties, but he has the makings of being an absolute stud. Once this offense starts to click on all cylinders, and it will, there is not a defense in the Big Sky or FCS that can stop it. We ran for more than 140 yards tonight and our starting RB didn't even suit up, that is a MAJOR plus. Our O-line was solid for the most part. Our receivers were as good as advertised. I think early on, Kaufman will see a lot more balls thrown his way. Edwards will see more double teams, like tonight, because he had such a great year last year and everyone forgot about Kaufman. Eventually teams won't know who to double and our receivers will all have big games.

Defensively we were much improved! What a performance by the D tonight. Idaho did not look good, but a good part of that is because our D was really good. TJ Lee is going to be an all american, that kid can flat out play, what a stud! Minnerly was laying the wood tonight as well. We have a tremendous secondary. Pulu didn't get a lot of tackles, but he absolutely plugged up the line making it difficult to run up the middle, he is really going to help us this year, especially stopping the run. Everyone on the defense played lights out and I was really impressed, if the D plays like that all year, we will make a deep run in the playoffs.

All in all we started the season off on the right foot. Next week will be a much more difficult battle, but I think we have a decent shot to win that game, it will take a better effort, but it can be done. I think we are in for a GREAT year this year.

Great win tonight!

Whoa whoa. We were a lot better than it would seem. Shoulda beat Colorado (still keeps me up at night) and ruined Weber's perfect season in the last game. :tothehand:

No but I agree, this one is winnable. I've been saying that all along.

Short answer---- eastern was decent, Idaho was shockingly bad.

Longer answer---- our defense played well. There were lots of examples of first-contact tackles and very few mistakes. We got double shafted on UI's only scoring drive with the mystery D holding penalty on the punt followed by the blown coverage where the safety followed the back thru the backfield and left the slot guy wide open. It took two weird plays for Idaho just to get into our territory.... Other than that it was total domination by our D. I loved watching our CBs and Safeties attack every ball that goes up in the air. They just out hit Vandal receivers all night long.

the offense was passable; not great but showed some flashes of brilliance. Pardon really struggled against a cover 2 package with line pressure. He never seemed to know where his hot read were. He only seemed in synch with Kaufman. Our other two stars never got much of look all game long. It was very nice to see the second half commitment to the running games pay dividends. our line needs help in staying in formation even when the DL moves around a lot. That caused a lot of confusion and led to the mistakes.

All in all, I'd rate is a solid B for the Eags.... Defense gets A- , offense gets c, spec teams b+

Fuck off, troll. :thumb:

Agreed with most sentiments here. Offense needs some work, Padron does not seem to be on the same page as everyone. I suppose that's expected after missing spring ball. Defense surpassed expectations in my mind. As did the run game. Don't know if the refs had it in for us or our line needs that much work, but all the "holding" and "false start" calls need to be fixed. Idaho was generally terrible. Great game to attend though, Eagle attendance was solid. :thumb:

 Very nice. Congratulations! Looks like UI is meeting expectations. Unfortunately I didn't get the game down here and my internet carrier doesn't support ESPN 3 :ohno:

Watched the WSU game tonight. They are okay, but if you pressure the QB he makes mistakes. The middle of their defense was open all night. When they had chances to make plays, they didn't. They could get better during the season, but they didn't play as well as they did last year. It should be noted, BYU looked very good. By the sounds of your posts, if you can clean up mistakes on offense, I think you have a shot. Good luck and have a great season! Doesn't 1-0 feel great.

loved the win but lets be honest this team has some stuff to work on offensively!! receivers and qb not on the same page, but bo levi struggled early on his junior season and he was in spring ball. I have no doubt the offense will look crisper but the penalties are unacceptable and that has to be fixed now! as great as the defense plaued will WILL NOT have a chance to beat WSU making so many mistakes!!

What a blast in Moscow. Fan turnout exceeded my expectations and I think we surprised the black and gold with our spirit from opening kickoff. Awesome way to start the season. I love this schedule!!
When the word "Padron is coming, Padron is coming" was outI read on the SMU fan site one of the issues June Jones had with him was that he did not get rid of the ball quick enough. I saw that in him last night. Against a better defense, of which there will be several, he is going to get sacked and sacked a plenty. I wasn't overly impressed with receivers ability to get open to give him targets, or his ability to see those times when there was an open receiver. Against the Huskies last year we succeeded with the short quick passing game. I did not see too much of that last night. If we could have established that rhythm against the Vandals it may have opened a lot of things up.
I would expect we will see a much more polished team next week, a much tougher task, and a much sweeter victory.
Eastern Eagles, Champions of the Palouse!!

Baldwin's just a great coach and made Akey look a fool. I loved the way we pounded the ball over the last quarter and a half. Why throw it if you don't have to? I remember BLM looking much shakier in the pocket his first few games and am confident Padron will settle down. There were several times he got stuck looking for receivers but could've taken off downfield. Against what I'd have to assume is a better WSU pass rush (maybe), KP will have to make decisions more quickly. Anyway, Dopa's probably right. The Vandals are a bad team with an unbelievably vanilla offense. We could've put this one away earlier with more emphasis on passing, but why. Special teams looked pretty damn good too. Will you change your mind on the scheduling Dopa if/when we beat WSU? Just curious.
