failure for this progrom., I don't get why the defense doens't get fixed. Until it does, EWU will be a good regular season team but continue to lose in the playoffs.

"Failure for this program." I don't view this program as a failure. Quite the opposite in fact.

If you were to say "the defense is the reason we haven't made it back to the national championship game" then I might agree. But then again, there were other reasons we lost, such as not taking care of the ball on offense, and poor special teams play and questionable calls. It was a total team loss, not just on the defense. Every kid on that team played their guts out yesterday.

Failure is a strong term. The kids play hard and I'm not sure why there's such a gap between offensive and defensive success and it's a fair question to ask why. Our defense , in the semi's, have been liability and not an asset. I don't buy into the "west cost recruiting defensive players" stuff as I believe we have good players on this roster. The defensive has gotten better from last year and I just hope the coaches think outside of the BSC when they make defensive adjustments over the winter.

I also don't think we have to to start from scratch, I think we're close just need minor adjustments. I thought we were a year a way, so I was surprised at our success this year. I still believe next year is the year our defense will make a statement, and once that happens, we will be a true national champion candidate- on both sides of the ball.

This is exactly what I thought before the season started. I picked EWU to be 7-4 and squeak into the playoffs as a bubble team. But with the recruiting EWU has done, the youth of the team, and the gradual improvement of the D, I really thought we wouldn't be at this spot till next year. The fact we were really a couple of plays here and there away from the NC game, we are trending much higher than anticipated.

It freaking hurts to lose a game like we did on Saturday. Heck, that's just the way football is. We love the incredible wins, but nothing has sucked more than EWU's losses in the playoffs to SHSU in 2004, SHSU in 2012, Towson in 2013, and now YSU. The ISU game in 2014 and UNI in 2005 don't bother me as much, and I wasn't at the YSU game in 97, though I listened to it on the radio. Those all are painful because we could've, and probably even should've won every one of them. It reminds me of the Seahawks vs Patriots in the SB. Those are just gut-punches. But I will take those games a million times over performing like SHSU did on national television versus JMU. We just gotta get over the hump.

Not trying to be a homer, but I still think that next year is our year. And I think EWU could be an App St dynasty if we can get it rolling.

I'm still sick to my stomach about the game. Mostly because I wanted to see our seniors have a chance at a National Championship and probably win one. Looking back at this season in a big picture format, it was wildly successful! Nobody would have predicted that we'd be a 1 in 100 catch away from a Natty appearance coming into this season.

Despite losing Coop, Shaq, Bourne and others, this team is stacked for a run next season. A guy like Coop can never be replaced, but EWU has proven they will reload at WR as a whole and outside of that, what other question marks remain? There is no reason to believe the D will be worse, and our RB core were both true freshman, which should help relieve some pressure on the passing game.

Anyone who has ANYTHING negative to say about Beau Baldwin and staff needs the STFU, plain and simple, because you're only proving that you're a buffoon! It's very disappointing to lose our last 3 semi final appearances at home, but it's a position that already proves we're an elite program. All this talk about how we're never going to be an elite program with our D is already debunked. Being in the semi's 4 of the last 7 years IS elite. Only one other program can claim more success than that in the same time period, and our "elite" status would've have still been second to theirs even with a Championship this season.

I'm damn proud of my almamater, even if Saturday was as painful as they come!

Well said. Since 2010, there's only one other school in the FCS that has had more success in the playoffs than EWU. That school is NDSU. No other school in the BSC has won as many games, conference championships, or playoffs games as EWU. I'd say we're firmly planted in the "elite" status so far this decade.

At the same time, to suggest others with a different opinion to "STFU" is an embarrassment. That why they call this a forum and I'm sure all opinions are welcomed, last time i checked. Besides, it's football and everybody has an opinion, valid or not.

The embarrassment would be suggesting that our coaching staff doesn't have what it takes to win it all. And yes, it's a forum with many opinions, and we all have a right to call out the ones that are blasphemy. If a person is ignorant enough not to see how good we have it, they should be called out. Period.

Well guys, it seemed not to have mattered too much who got suspended for them. It was an evenly matched game throughout (we were at full strength) and our coaches simply got out coached by their unbelievable staff.. Our defense looked like a wet paper bag against 2 backup RB's (Well this isn't surprising actually) And the two backup safeties both had INT's (one that saved the game for the ice birds)... Rough game to watch at the end.

Actually we were NOT at full strength.
Their running game controlled the ball. Typically we own the 3rd and 4th qtr but not in this game.
Possession Time 39:20 20:40
1st Quarter 6 : 1 8 8 : 4 2
2nd Quarter 9 : 1 7 5 : 4 3
3rd Quarter 12:06 2 : 5 4
4th Quarter 11:39 3 : 2 1

YSU had the ball for almost 24 mins in second half!!

They simply wore us down with great offensive line play.

Exactly, great OL play and timing in their run game. The backs were hitting the holes perfectly most of the time and always leaning forward for a couple more yards after contact. Also, a lot of clean holding was happening.

They had a great game plan and stuck with it. It's hard not to think of the final play as the difference but we had plenty of chances to put that game away and didn't do it. They were the better team on that day.

Sometimes your opponent just plays so well that you're not going to beat them on that particular day and I believe that's what happened.

Exactly. We've been on the other side of these as well. The WSU game comes to mind. I don't think WSU played poorly during that game. They executed their offense well. We just weren't going to be beaten on that day.

The margin of error between victory and defeat is so narrow when you get deep into the playoffs. Sometimes I just comes down to an additional play made here or there.

to All,
Saw someone questioning the where about of Monike Sarte. He hurt himself lifting weights according to some of the Players. Don't know if he is doing any better now, will check with the Players when they return in January. He was supposed to be with someone, because he was hurt very bad. Hope he is doing better now. Just hope all of our Players return next year, Vic Wallace

To All,
Spoke to Dave Cook yesterday requiring when the FB Banquet where it will be held. Dave stated it will be on January 21st, 2017, will either be at Northern Quest, or Red Lion in Spokane. Hope to see a Big turn Out on January 21st. It was normally held in February. "Merry Christmas to all, and Happy New Year. Vic Wallace

True, as part of that line play it appeared they said "we are not going to let #3 beat us" and they carried through with that.

Post game thoughts: How the hell did Eastern Washington lose at home to an UNSEEDED NOBODY like Youngstown State? We had to suffer through the middle school bleachers, red turf and only 5k people in attendance (on ESPN 3 hint.. hint..) just to watch Eastern give it away with a circus catch.

I'm also not THAT impressed with Cooper Kupp. I wish him the best but he didn't bring that trophy home to Cheney like BLM, Kaufman & Taiwan Jones did. The best players to wear the All Red IMO are BLM, Taiwan Jones, & Vernon Adams. I was more impressed with SHAQ HILL & GAGE GUBRUD in 2016 than Coop Kupp. I'm sure he's a great person, and I wish him the best. Thanks for the high expectations, all it got us was a loss to unseeded Youngstown muthafxckin State. :ohno:

To whom it may concern: If you're really a fan of Eastern Washington football, you'd do all you can to expand and renovate Roos Field.

Pete Carroll just congratulated Bo Pelini for the win via Twitter. Must've forgot which state he coaches in.

Yup even the great Pete Carroll is wondering WHAT THE FXCK HAPPENED!?

"Bo Pelini just took a group of unseeded potheads from Ohio to the The Inferno, home of "the greatest player ever Mr. Cooper Kupp", and got the victory!?? I HAVE to congratulate him!"

Yeah, well. I remember thinking the exact same thing a couple of years back when the Hawks should have earned their second straight Super Bowl victory.

Eastern lost to an unseeded nobody who was ranked 12th in the nation and did BEAT #3 ranked Jacksonville State 40-20 on the road. By the way, the game was on ESPN2, not ESPN3! Also, Taiwan Jones, as great as he was, did NOT play in the semi's or FCS Championship game in 2010! Kupp had 10 catches for 182 yards and 2 TD's in the YSU semi-final game while being double and at times triple teamed. The NFL scouts are 10x more high on him than Kaufman and BLM.
Great season by the EAGS, 12-2, and just 2 plays away from 14-0. This is from a true die hard fan.

The above post was my reply to BLACK FALKIN, which was ONLY the last paragraph. The first 3 paragraphs were his opinion ONLY. I just didn't hit the correct reply button.
