Potential Head Coaches

…look at what’s happened since he left, Eastern is currently tied for last place in the Big Sky
And paid $265k to lose to a non-scholarship (basically D2) team at home.

And lost to Montana for the first time on the red turf.

And lost to UC Davis for the first time EVER! To add insult to injury it was at home.

Longest consecutive streak of losing seasons in 30 years since 1987-91 when Eastern joined the Big Sky.

What new lows will Eastern reach if Best is retained? A winless season? Dropping down to D2?

Meanwhile, Baldwin has NEVER had a losing season at Eastern as head coach.

I just feel like people need a reminder that we're paying a dude a quarter million a year to tank a once highly successful and respected football program. Idk why I'm guessing the AD and boosters have already made up their minds.

Let’s throw Erik Meyer into the mix as potential HC’s.
????

Maybe he has some big upside, but based on resume, he's co-running a subpar offense for a poor FCS team. This feels like a massive reach to include him. The only things that I could plug into as reasons are:
1. He is, in fact, actually a football coach
2. He's familiar with the goings-on in Cheney

I was thinking the same thing but he is as good as some of the people on the list.

OC might be more appropriate maybe paired with a defensively minded HC.

Bobby Daily, MSU's Assistant HC and DC would be interesting. He has ties to the northwest being from Montana State and Idaho. But would probably want to wait till Vigen takes another job.

I'd put Troy Taylor up there but Stanford will probably give him another year or two. But he would be great.

Troy Taylor would be great, agreed. But there is no way... he coaches at one of the single toughest schools to coach at, while undergoing massive changes to their program. He's been dealt a shitburger and will be given time to course-correct.

Here's another thought... what if Best wins out? Improbable, but hardly impossible. One thing Best has is the support of the university and boosters. I haven't met a single person who actually wants him gone; everybody just wants improvement. Granted, if he gets cut, it's because he never got any accountability from his defensive coaches--- and as a head coach, that's on you.

Well losing to Montana State made it a losing season so that 3 losing seasons in a row. That hasn't happened in 30 years. I'm sure everyone likes Best but you don't get a new contract renewed cause you're a swell guy. Especially with a young new AD who wants to prove himself.

There is also a reason why bigger schools will spend tens if not hundreds of millions to get rid of a bad head coach. It is hard to reverse the course of losing and get rid of the stench of being a loser school. You lose fans, you lose revenue, you lose good recruits (you complain about lack of talent already)

I'm noticing a lot more people in Facebook groups selling their tickets and tailgate spots cause they'd rather do something else. Eastern already has to compete with WSU, who is having a very good season and is ranked 19th I think.

The school is already broke af. We don't need to lose fans by losing constantly and thus losing revenue. Athletics is already under attack. Athletics losing more money only give critics more fuel.

The new AD is probably looking to build a resume, having his school drop down to D2 or lose the football program altogether looks pretty bad.

Agreed, not much of a resume yet. Wasn't he coaching QB's at Cal Poly? Maybe could be an OC consideration but not HC material as of yet. That said, great ties to the program and the community.

Based on the Spokesman Review article today it looks like Best is coming back. It also says his contract now runs through 2027. Not sure if it is a typo. Collins states the plan is having Best back for next year.

LOLZ, Can I interest you in an Andy Thompson?

Kadeezy, what happened to Sac St? I anticipated them to be a playoff team this year. Was it the QB position? It was a quick fall from last year.

X Factor QB quit/"injured" in game two (he'll portal out). Lost nearly 20 guys for the season that were on the two-deep at some point, key guys. I've never seen anything like it. Still, we looked like a Top 10 team stomping out our Southland OOC opponents, then just went on a weird slide of semi-competitive close games where we never played that great. 0-3 to EWU, ISU, and CP in one score games. Not getting it done...
