Potential Head Coaches

Nsimba Webster wasn't tall, but he was flanked by two very good receivers in Andrew Boston and Limu-Jones. Those dudes were talented and 6'3" and 6'5". Forcing teams to match up with them down the field was a large part of the reason Webster could make the plays he'd make underneath.

I mean, Brandon Kaufman wasn't that fast either. Yet he's probably among the 5 or so best receivers in Eastern history. Why? Because he could outjump anyone and had velcro hands. Plus, he was the definition of play-maker. When a game was tight, you could always throw to him and count on him making the play.

Plus, let's be straight, the smaller guys we'll have next year aren't exactly Shaq Hill or Nsimba Webster.

Webster is in the NFL. Scouts would know if he had talent on this own or if it was the guys surrounding him.

Like I said too, Limo Jones was SOOO slow, he played TE at first but didn't really have the size just the height. Shit a LB could cover him. Any team could have put their fastest CB on Nsimba. Kupp wasn't fast either or that super tall at 6'2" he just ran really good routes and had really good fundamentals. Chism is 5'10" and 2nd best receiver in Eastern history.

I'm just saying height isn't the end all, best stat for WRs. Shit if it was we'd have basketball players out there.

I'm fine with smaller speedsters. Yall forget Nsimba Webster. Wortham is decent lined up at receiver. Limo-Jones was sooo slow, only advantage he had was being so tall.
Nsimba Webster, yes, as a slot receiver. But he still played in a receiving corps that had taller guys.

Big receivers was a trademark of the Baldwin years but since then we’ve gotten smaller and smaller, and I can’t underdtand why. Size matters, especially in the red zone where we struggle.

Liko-Jones was slow but he absolutely dominated people with his size. Remember that he was originally a TE.

Eh, we'll be fine. The best trio of receivers EWU had Kupp, Bourne and Hill, Kupp was the tallest at 6'2"

Plenty of 6'+ receivers on the roster. Its nice to have but so many other things that are more important.

3 over six feet tall.... one may have seen the field a few times.. Eag's lost quite a bit of WR talent the past couple years that had size and FCS speed. It makes the WR corps very ordinary IMO. Of course, since the coaching didn't want to leverage the assets they had, it makes sense for those players to move on and ultimately for the team to become a perennial loser.... Being great between the 20's is meaningless to W's. This season proved it again. btw, why does eastern have TE's? Best is F'ing clueless.

I don't know, I have zero expectations and I feel like I'm already going to be disappointed.

Probably some tool Best can bring in and force his weird gimmicky run first, triple-option-esque type offense down his throat. Essentially what Jim Chapin was.

If the AD was smart he'd make sure he has final say on an OC that can take over as HC like CWU's Chris Fisk.

I think Erik Meyer would be cool but since he's a QB he will want to throw the ball more and Best doesn't want that.

Has anyone heard anything about a new OC for Eastern? Looks like Montana St. Is losing their OC and OLine coach to same position at Temple
The new OC/ QB coach is Marc Anderson. Also sounds like former Montana OL coach Chad Germer is the new OL coach and already on campus. Jeff McDaniels the WR coach has gone to Cal as TE coach so we're looking for a new WR coach and are hiring a LB coach so Sanders can focus solely on being a Coordinator.

If so I'm done supporting this program till Best is gone. They will not get a dime out of me.
I agree with everyone on this thread regarding the coaching hires. AB has run this program into the ground to say the least. However, we need to go back about 10 years to really address the start of the slide of the football program and the university . When Rudy Arevalos was president EWU was thriving and football program was making great strides. (EWU has always had to scrap and claw for everything) I believe it was at a point where EWU could have a major player in football when Avelaos was in charge. Baldwin and then the AD BILL Chaves had a great vision and Help put EWU in the national spotlight.

EWU has a great launching pad. We did not take advantage of this hard earned opportunity to put EWU to solidify is as a powerhouse. Unfortunately Arevalos retired in 2014 due to cancer and they brought in Mary Cullinan from SOU in ashland. Big mistake as she was let go at SOU" no confidence in Cullinan's leadership" Ewu passed on passed on several good candidates and hired someone with a loser past. Baldwin and Chaves both saw the writing on the wall . Cullinan brought in LYNN Dickey who did not do anything for EWU sports but just maintained medicority. Another bad hire by EWU. Cullinann again had a vote of no confidence at EWU.
In 2018
AB reached the national title game largely due to the fact that the majority of EWU players on that roster were recruited by Baldwin who was a great evaluator of talent. Also, Troy Taylor was was an mastermind OC who is now at Stanford and the majority of the coaches were on baldwins original staff. during that run. The majority of the coaches under BEST have resigned or gone elsewhere. I was talking to a defensive player on that 2018 team and he said that the assistant coaches did hold hold AB in high regard. AB is a great assistant coach but a terrible head coach. The only reason he had any success at all is because was feeding of Beau Baldwin residuals. Look at the past four years. Only one good quality win was against Montana at home in 2021. Lynn Dickey rewarded mediocrity with a contract until 2026. we are screwed, this guy doesnt have it. I have only been to one game at EWU in 2021. I was very impressed with the physcical outlay , tailgating section. fan base etc. we have what it takes.

Last but not least , look at EWU leadership overall. We have a stadium that is a glorified high school stadium but yet we have a super bowl MVP as an alumni. I happened to be in spokane in 2005 and walked around campus. I walked into the alumni building ad gave a $1,000 donation. (I know its not much) They never even bothered to keep in tough with me. I sent $200 in 2008 and Rudy Arevalo personally sent me a hand written note. The board of trustees are weak sauce as well. I went to EWU with one of them in 1987 . Look at our endowment, we have been around a long time but we are broke. Fund raising, making EWU more well known starts at the top. I love EWU but we are a poorly run school
