Of players on the current roster, the front runner for the starting Qb spot would seem to be Jordan West since he was the go to guy this year. But we also have Reilly Hennessey who was the Washington State Player of the year his Senior season in high school, Connor Richardson who saw some time this year and Gebrud who I believe is a walk on. Is there any possibility we bring in a transfer to compete right away if we don't sign a QB this year?

It should be wide open in the Spring. My gut tells me that West should be the favorite because of the experience he has but I don't think you can count any of them out, especially R. Hennessey. If he has a good spring, I wouldn't be surprised to see him as the starter, even as a RS Freshman. I would also not completely rule out the transfer option.

IMO based on what I have seen following the scrimmages the last two years and Jordan West's performance last year, I think there will be an outstanding competition for the starting position this spring. I think the EAGS are in great shape at QB and won't need any transfers.

Nothing would surprise me, really. As was already mentioned the competition should be wide open in the Spring. For anyone who has seen Hennessey in scrimmages - thoughts?

The talent is obvious but he may be fairly raw at this point. I think it's West's job to lose barring any shakeups.

we're already recruiting one QB from New Mexico. i wonder if the coaches have thought about this guy?

here's a crazy thought. how ironic would it be if one of Oregon's backups transferred in and started against OU next year? 8-)

Now THAT would be something.

I'm not sure that it means anything, but QB prospect K. Johnson did NOT visit UCONN yesterday.

As it relates, I am pretty sure the staff is banking on Hennessy being the next "era QB" at Eastern. I think they offered him the keys to the kingdom early in his recruitment and that's why he was an early commit and never waivered. Obviously, that is not a guarantee of starting or proof that he is better than the other guys on the roster... only that the coaches are really high on his abilities. My understanding is the job he did leading the practice squad did nothing to damper that enthusiasm over the last year.

I strongly suspect he's the guy if/when VA leaves.

I did not see Gubrud because he walked on last fall.

What I took home from the scrimmages last year was that West, Richardson and Hennessey have good size, strong arms and are all mobile. All of them made great throws and all of them showed mobility. They have all been in the program and know the offense.

Jordan West took over the team when VA was injured and won. The only game he played that the EAGS lost was the NAU game when the EAGS "COUGED IT" an gave a victory to NAU. The NAU loss was not on Jordan West.

Because the EAGS have so much talent at QB, there is no need for a transfer. Use VA's vacated scholarship for a great athlete who wants to be an Eagle.

I've watched lots of his film, and he can play early. He will be a special player.

I haven't seen Hennessey in any scrimmages at EWU but saw him in high school, and he is an excellent player. Can't wait for Spring Ball.

I saw Hennessey over Spring Ball last year. He was very talented for a true freshman and had a lot of potential. If he earns the starting spot will depend on his development and preparation during the off season.

There are often naturally talented players who end up plateauing too early. We will just have to see what sort of progress he has made.
