Potential replacements

Well.... I remember back in the days when Salanoa was QB at EWU. I used to wonder who would fill his shoes cause I thought he was pretty good due to his mobility and decent arm. Then a guy by the name of Meyer showed up to the party. I thought to myself, there will never be another QB like this at EWU. Matt Nichols must of heard me thinking to myself cause then he decided to break a bunch of Eagle records after Meyer left. I thought surely this time there was no way EWU could bring in a guy to top Nichols or Meyer. Then Bo Levi stepped in and said---- "I got this!" Won the Natty which still makes him the most valuable Eag QB ever in my opinion cause no one else has done that yet at EWU. Then it was Adams. My point is that every time we wonder if another guy is going to step up and fill the shoes of the previous guy---it happens. I have no doubt that Coach Baldwin either has our next guy on the roster, or, will bring a guy in to get it done. Who wouldn't want to play for Baldwin? Seriously! He is a QB's best friend.

National Championships are now the standard at EWU and I know Baldwin will deliver a guy that can bring home another one.

:thumb: Rafter, The Eagles success' are due in part to the players of course but the common thread is Baldwin and Hill.

Is this the same guy that just signed to play for Michigan?

West will be the mean to beat heading into the Spring should VA choose to transfer, but as ya'll have mentioned there's lots of talent at the position. Not to worry.

Nope, is going to a JUCO. Makes me wonder what the other parts of the story were. You have to imagine with the national exposure that came with that story, he got a few more looks. Heck, he was worth some media exposure at least. Yet still, he has to go to a community college to play football.

Who's the #1 QB coming out of Spring Ball
Hennessey is my guess. West is a solid backup but dont think he has it in him to win the natty.

Having watched Hennessey he has the skills to get it done but opening up against Oregon would be a tough start. Jordan has that experience plus he has the size to run as well. To me, Jordan is more of the typical Oregon type qb than Vernon is but it will be interesting to see how this sorts out this Spring and moving to the Fall. Either one will put up some big numbers....

I want to see what Hennessey has, haven't seen what he can do. Nothing on Jordan.
Maybe will swing by Spring ball and check things out.

Spring ball just got real exciting, QB's and RB's fighting for playing time. A new Def. strategy. The best recruiting class for speed ever. Several outstanding red shirts. This is going to be a fun spring and fall.

Whoever is it, I have total faith and confidence in Beau & Co to do an excellent job in preparing and grooming the next great eagle qb.

agreed, spring ball just got REAL exciting!

You never know what the future holds, and I think Eastern still has a couple of full schollies available. It wouldn't be unthinkable to see someone else come into the program. Whether that would be a QB or not, who knows? Frankly, I think we may want to bring in some additional defensive talent... we need to do anything and everything to get that group back up to speed.

From what I understand, Hennessy is projected as the next "era" QB in the mold of Meyer, Nichols, Mitchell, or Judas. Can he jump right into the role as a frosh? Based on the very limited time I saw him in practice, yeah, I think maybe he can. He has many of the same physical tools Vernon has with a bigger body and a stronger arm. The question will be in his ability to read plays and create on the fly.

Concidentally, was Hennessy our only other QB on full schollie in 2014? I believe West and Richardson were on partials?

Jordan is now on a full scholarship as he should be. Cooper tweeted this last week.

I realize that; but as of 2014 is was just VA and Hennessy on full schollies, right? I think we had two guys on partials...

Correct. Two on fulls and two on partials. I think when it became apparent Adams was going to transfer and the recruiting class was finished, West was awarded a full scholarship. It will be interesting to see if Gabrud is given a partial now since we didn't bring in a QB in this class.

Without signing a QB I look to see a transfer coming in this Spring to help shore things up. Who knows when Baldwin had the feeling Adams may not be here (could be sooner than many think) next season. There may already be several possibilities on the horizon that have been evaluated and with Adams now officially gone possible transfers may look at coming in to a great program.

If no transfer come in then whoever comes outta Spring ball will have the upper hand but if it's even then going into Fall I could see on the projected line up a West OR Hennessey listed at QB. Baldwin may even alternate starters in the first couple of games like he did when Meyers played his first season to see who emerges.

Can I just cite this post I made during Spring Ball in 2014?

Hey Jones thanks for the info. and well written!!
Just a note on Reilly Hennessey. Being on the west side and also a Husky football fan I listen every Saturday @ 9AM to KJR sports radio Dawgman show that they talk mostly high school recruiting. Before signing day I remember the hosts talking about Reilly Hennessey and saying he would be a great fit at both Boise State and Oregon State. Also, I can't remember exactly where I heard or read this but I remember someone saying Eastern Wa. got a real steal in getting Reilly Hennessey. It will be interesting to see how he develops.

Reilly was very impressive. I think at this point, Jordan West is the standout number two. However, Hennessey has a whole lot of potential. The kid is really going to need to put on some pounds, though. I foresee a QB battle between West and Hennessey in 2016. Or even in 2015, if Vernon decides to leave early.
