Can I just cite this post I made during Spring Ball in 2014?

Hey Jones thanks for the info. and well written!!
Just a note on Reilly Hennessey. Being on the west side and also a Husky football fan I listen every Saturday @ 9AM to KJR sports radio Dawgman show that they talk mostly high school recruiting. Before signing day I remember the hosts talking about Reilly Hennessey and saying he would be a great fit at both Boise State and Oregon State. Also, I can't remember exactly where I heard or read this but I remember someone saying Eastern Wa. got a real steal in getting Reilly Hennessey. It will be interesting to see how he develops.

Reilly was very impressive. I think at this point, Jordan West is the standout number two. However, Hennessey has a whole lot of potential. The kid is really going to need to put on some pounds, though. I foresee a QB battle between West and Hennessey in 2016. Or even in 2015, if Vernon decides to leave early.

Very prophetic. I'm really interested to see who comes out of Spring Ball as the number one. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Baldwin wait until fall camp to name a starter, or to see a transfer come in to compete. Eastern is a very high profile place for any prospective transfer QB.

Whoever is named the starter, I will have total faith in them to get the job done. We should be more concerned about how much improvement our defense makes in the off season. If that unit improves, we don't need a QB to throw 7 TD's a game.

Yeah, I have been thinking this as well. Our running game should be damn good next year, so we just need a QB who is going to be efficient and take care of the ball. West showed that he can be pretty damn efficient, throwing for 7 TD's against only 1 INT during his stint. And that was after basically being thrown to the wolves with zero prior game experience. He also has the best receiving core in the nation at our level to throw the ball to.

Agreed on the defense. I am far more concerned with how much improvement we make in that realm.

West is somewhat proven, Hennessey a higher ceiling? Beau Knows.

Those that know football know that Hennessey is going to be special. Stepping in as a RS frosh though would be a tough task for anyone so we need to temper expectations. VA was able to do it because he bought time with his feet then chucked it up to the nations best. Over time, VA learned to read the defense at a high level. I wouldn't be surprised to see West start next year due to his experience but, it's not if, but WHEN Hennessey get's his shot I don't expect him to look back. He seems like a humble guy and a VERY hard worker based on what I have seen and heard. Those are essential characteristics for a QB. Baldwin knows he is a special talent. Who knows when he will be ready. Somebody already said it though....we don't need him to throw 5 TD's a game over the next 4 years with the O-Line talent we have coming in. Beau will pound the rock and the eags will win with balance.

From the Rafters....
go eags!

I know it's been said by a few on here already but don't sleep on Reilly. I think he's got an excellent shot at winning this job. I think West has the talent as well and it's his job to lose, but Hennesey is special and I don't think we need to worry. It's next man up!

Why so little talk about Gage Gubrud and Connor Richardson?

Richardson is another contender. What I saw from Gubrud, I don't think he will be in the mix.

Don't be surprised at an announcement of a transfer by spring to compete , I got to imagine that ewu is on every D1 qb out there who's considering transferring. Ewu is too good of an opportunity for a qb to go unnoticed IMO.

When has EWU not been able to score?

Issue is and will always be the defense. Give up an avg of 24-27 ppg and we're back in Frisco.

We're not going to be scoring in the 50's against most opponents next year, but I actually believe running the ball more is going to help out the D by slowing the game down. I'd be perfectly fine scoring in the 30's if it meant we were winning games by being a more physical team.

EWU fans and coaches are like "WAAAAA! Somebody call the Waaaaambulance!"

Maybe under different circumstances, but I'd be surprised. I think Baldwin is very confident in the QB's that have been recruited.

Seems like a pretty level-headed and well spoken kid. There's some really nice throws in that video - great touch.

Not sure what the answer is, but we will miss Big Play VA.
It was going to happen sooner or later. The fortunate thing for Eagle fans is we have Baldwin and Zach Hill, which is fortunate for the fans and the QB's they will be tutoring. Remember VA was not exactly a hot commodity when he came out of HS and he was developed into the product we have seen the last couple of years. Now the coaches will be working with recruits that ARE in demand.
Lots of upside!
