Practice / Scrimmage Notes for those that can't attend

G&P,
Finally someone is backing up the things I have been saying about our team. Some Players #s have changed, four I remembered are Nick Sblendorio fm 23 - # 7, Milles Weatheroy fm #26 - #8, Mitch Fettig fm #38 - #13, and Moe Roberts FM #33 - #23. Was very much impressed with all 3 Q/Backs, WRs, the entire team. Codi looked great, the TR from WSU #45, Jordan Descalo, has a hell of a foot on him, he kicked the ball out of bounds on a kick off. I have been bragging on how high and long he kicks the ball. Good morning. Vic Wallace

Yes, #45 (transfer from Wash. St.) had a 68 yard Punt in the scrimmage! Frosh Center McGuire had the highest snap % and fellow Frosh RB Sam McPherson threw a TD pass (Halfback Pass). It's great when new players come on the scene to help out the already strong unit we already knew we had returning!

G&P,
Sam McPherson was running hard again @ 3 p.m. practice, as well as Webster, Jabari Wilson, and Colin Cossette. Weather was a little better. The team was going back on the field about 8 p.m. tonight, because they didn't practice this am due to the smoke in the area. We are going to have some Recruits starting this year, they all look so damn great. I am kind of tired, so I will hit the sack early, this old bod needs some rest. ;) ;) ;) ;) ;). Will be out at the next two a day practice. Vic Wallace

To All,
Here are some of the Recruits I think will be starting this year. Remember this is my opinion, I am not a Coach or Assistant. LB #40 - Ketner Kupp, RB #20 - Sam Mcpherson, RB #33 - Malcolm Williams Jr., DL #53 Jonah Jordan, DL #68 Jim Townsend, #90 - Keenan Williams. I watched these young Players Saturday and yesterday Monday, they all shined in my book. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

Here are my thoughts about positions and possible active frosh:

RB:
I think RB M. Williams only goes active if we have an RB injury. Keep in mind we've had both #31 Kindle and #28 Moore out for a few weeks now. When they come back, if you add McPherson, that's a pretty crowded backfield with the other upperclassmen (#2, #42, etc). I'm not sure how many RB's we will have active, but we have at least 4 upperclassmen RB's, and my guess is 5 will be active unless someone has some rare special teams talent.

WR
I also think #87 Dorton has looked fantastic at practice, and was surprised he didn't get any balls thrown his way Saturday. He looks so polished and has the speed / size combo at WR that could make him an impact player. I know we have nothing but solid Wideouts, but Dorton is good enough to contribute. I wont be surprised if he does or doesn't go active, but I do think he is good enough to go.

OL:
Center #50 McGuire looked good in the scrimmage (was outstanding on his snaps). He did well on blocking assignments too. OT #65 Taylor has consistently improved and has that size ratio at 6'7 310 that could help us. He has held his own in blocking drills, and could be that 4th or 5th OT for us by the end of the season. With Center's Blackburn and Boatright not practicing and some of last year's OT's not dominating the rookies I wouldn't be surprised to see these two active at some point. OG #67 Puapuaga has also done a good job in his phone booth blocking and his size 6'4 315 allows for him to go toe to toe with even our upperclassmen as his feet improve, he could also be active.

Defense:
I haven't watched the defense as much as the offense, but the names mentioned previously sound about right from what I have seen. I'be expected Kupp to be active since the day we signed him. Mentally he is way ahead of schedule.

How much do the Eagles practice special teams play? With a lot of depth at RB and WR, who has been getting the call for returns?
Last year Cooper Kupp did a great job at returns but he seems like quite a valuable asset to risk as return man.
With that said a touchdown on a return counts the same as a touchdown on a long pass play.

They have worked specials everyday I've gone to practice. Lots of guys getting a chance to cover or return.

Did anyone else see the Frosh OL kids getting down and dirty on the OL in scrimmage 2? I counted pancake blocks (knockdowns) by #50 McGuire (2), #77 Long (1), and #65 Taylor (1). The rookies played together on the 2nd, 4th, and 6th series and for the most part did great. Group 2 took most the other reps (1st, 3rd, 5th series) and also did better than scrimmage 1 IMO.

Both our centers did a good job on snaps too. Not one rolled back or snapped for a fumble overhead. Overall a great day on the snap exchanges which was nice to see. I also thought the OL did a great job grinding the ball inside for our RB's. Seeing RB's #31 and #28 back looked good. Both are skilled players.

The QB's looked sharp, and the defense had more than a few pressures/ sacks off the edge. We are very fast on both sides this year.

The last two scrimmages have been fun to watch because the underclassmen have been getting a ton of reps. I have noticed a couple things with the young OL. First, they are huge and have good feet. No clods in this young group. Second, they look very cohesive in the scrimmages. Of course they made some mistakes but really looked good as a unit. I have been to two practices and both times followed the OL through practice. I was able to get close and listen because they were practicing in the upper fields. I was really impressed with coach Best and the way he coaches technique. He always has their attention, mistakes do not go unnoticed, and are quickly addressed.

G&P I too think that the D line is a big key to the season. Also I think Jordan West can run faster than most people think he can but when he get up to speed his long legs start chewing up yardage pretty fast. When we play the ducks I would love to see BB roll him out to the right, set up throw a 30 yard strike to just let the competition know that our QB has changed but our offensive philosophy hasn't.
I think I understand what you are saying but roll outs will be a loser.
hut, hut, snap, pass.
hut, hut, snap, pass.
hut, hut, snap, pass.
hut, hut, snap, pass.

clawman,
We didn't see much from the Defense on Saturday Scrimmage, due to the weather we had with all the winds, and especially the blowing dust. We will be damn good. I spoke with #98 Monike Sarte, DL, he stated he was so happy the way the "D" is playing. W/O letting anything out of the bag, we will have something the Ducks. Can't say much on the blog, we know how the :x trolls like to sneak from blog to blog. Today my little one is a young 39, had a get together with some FB/Volley Ball Players for her yesterday at my residence, she really loved it. We will be making the 9:30 a.m. practice today, she is on a week vacation. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

G&P,
#28 is Jalen Moore, #31 Ashanti Kindle. Keep your eyes out for #2 Jabari Wilson, #20 Sam Mcpherson, #33 Malcolm Williams Jr. Running Backs. #20 and 33 are New Recruits, they are going to be very special. I have been watching them, and each time they look better. Levi Long reminds me of Big Michael Roos at times, especially in the huddle. The Offense seems bigger than last year OL. Big #64 Chris Schlichting is looking good. He told me how to pronounce his last name on Saturday, still having problems trying to say it. ;) All the OL Recruits playing Outstanding. Another Big Player OL #67 Ben PauPuaga, he loves doing the dirty job. I asked him if he loves it here, he stated he is happy he came here, and loves doing the dirty job, then :) . Everything thing I've said depends if we stay injury free. Will be at practice this a.m. Vic Wallace

To All,
Got fooled this a.m. No practice this a.m, class room work. Practice is at 4 p.m. Came home and rested so I can return to Cheney for practice. Vic Wallace
