Any information about preseason workouts and practices would be appreciated.
Factual, straight forward stuff preferred. Observations relating to how"we" seem to be going about things and the tone of practices would be appreciated.
 
I guess we will find out who the players are that cared about what happened last season. Those who never want to see that happen again at UNC will be those who have prepared and worked hard in the offseason. Those who are just here for the ride and aren't embarrassed are those who are going to show up next Thursday unprepared, out of shape, etc.

Let's have an over/under on the number of times Collins and his staff lose control and berate the players in pre-season camp. Should be a fun game. I say at least 10 times.
 
Nice game, how do we get an honest tally?
I will bet the staff makes a conscious effort to be upbeat initially, but will show their true colors in a few days.
When the staff is forced to "teach", I'm betting they become frustrated and lose it. I hope the players hang together and play hard despite the "motivational" techniques they are forced to endure.

I can understand the skepticism. I just think the problem is they "staff" and ultimately administration do NOT. There is a sense of delusion roaming the halls of BH from what I gather via the chatter.

I know talent isn't an issue and if I heard that again as justification for things not going right, as a player Id say go screw yourself coach/s I got a cruddy coaching staff! Im calling for administration jobs if they loose the Mesa game!!!!!! Thats not a step forward after a step back last year - thats just 5 steps back in an already dicey recruiting sense within the state and UNC being on the FCS level. Thats killing a program

If they can compete and win at least three Ill be the first to say were moving in the right direction but I refuse to see the obligation in being optimistic after everything surrounding the program after the change in flag. Im still a Bear and I still root for these young guys who have a short time to do what they love
 
Interesting point KlondikeBear. I agree with you, player abilities are not an issue. Putting them in a position to be successful is. The other statement that you made that I find interesting centers around supporting the players and our school (the omission is obvious). The bottom line is that this program and it's players (throughout the years) have existed at all levels of success. I believe that you stated it well! However the preseason and subsequent months develop, we need to continue support for the school, program, and players.

I agree whole heartedly mountainbear, but as you stated time will tell. I will support both financially and optimistically within certain circles as I see improvement, and I have in some cases. But be sure just as I am optimistic I will not hesitate to make the truth known to the best of my abilities within certain circles should circumstances continue to decline. As should most people from any and all walks of life
 
I must say there are some reasons to be optimistic going into the season.

Positives:
Bringing in more coaches like the D-line and O-line. Those areas were the biggest trouble spots last season. No protection for Lobato and no pressure on the QB. Also, bringing in Kay Dalton will help. And then there's the decision to make Boyer the co-offensive coordinator. That means a change in the offense, which was pretty bad last year. I also like what I'm hearing about Dinky Williams, the new strength coach.

Areas of concern
The number of transfers going out of the program is of concern. I know that will happen with every change of coach, but there's a couple of examples of Collins' recruits leaving. One is Taylor Young who started a couple of games as a true freshman Lb, quit mid-season (which might tell you about the kid as well) He's now at CSU-P. Also, Brandon Boyle a Collins recruit is at a JC. I think that may be because of the LB coach who, I've been told by a parent is really bad. He doesn't have a clue. So...Collins should be cognizant of the bad coaches he's brought in and he needs to get rid of them.

While I've never personally heard anything bad about Collins from people I've talked to, it's more or less about some of his coaches that he's brought in, such as the LB coach.

Collins has issues himself that I don't like and I hope he's changed some things. He needs to stop berating the players. It's difficult to teach a player to do something that you want when they've been taught to do something the opposite way. Collins has mentioned this several times during the coaches show. I've coached and I know how easy it is and frustrating it is. However, the yelling shouldn't always be the way you communicate. Yelling can happen, on occasion but when you're constantly doing it, it shows you've lost control. You should always have control of your football team.

That being said there's things I like about Collins. His dedication to UNC and his passion for the game. I also like that he has recognized the areas of weakness and he's acted upon them. Over all I still like the guy. We just need to give him the resources (meaning money) for him to bring in better assistant coaches.

I'm excited for the season. I wish I can be out there for practice but business won't allow me for a while. I think this team has the talent to win 4-5 games. Anything less and I'll be disappointed.
 
I only caught about 30 minutes of it. Typical scrimmage. It's difficult to find strengths/weaknesses. I would say our running game is still a big concern and same with the o-line. However, it's going to be difficult to to run on us because of our LB's. I like what I saw from Willingham. He might be even better than Bumpas.
