I thought it would be cool to see where everyone predicts the Big Sky next year. I am going to try and do this without any bias because I BLEED PURPLE. What does eveyone think? Here is my early Preseason pics for next year. Drum ROLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
1. PORTLAND STATE. They return the Player of the Year in Domingez and have some other good players coming back. I know they had a trasfer from University of Washington redshirt last year. His name is Phil Nelson. He played a lot as a true freshman for the huskies and will play next year. He is a very good post player and will only be a Soph.
2. IDAHO STATE. I hated puting them this high because being a Weber State fan I hate the Pocatello Tater Tossers as much as any Weber fan, but they could be the champion next year. They were a good team last year and only lose Kinghorn. I thought he was only their 4th or 5th best player too. They have good guards, good post players coming back. Holt Arena is a joke and I have no idea how any player would want to play in Pocatello, but they have some good players and could very well win it all.
3. NORTHERN ARIZONA. I would put Weber State ahead of them, but since they beat us 3 times this year I had to swallow my purple pride and put them ahead. They have Josh Wison coming back who is a very good point gaurd. I know they lose some good players in Landry, McCurdy etc, but they had some pretty good youngs guys too. Plus even though he is creepy looking, Baldy is a very good coach.
4. WEBER STATE. Some outside of Ogden might think this is too high, but I really think Weber State has a good chance to contend for the title. I think the returning players will improve alot namly McCoy, Davis Panos, and Morris. I can see Davis having a MVP type of year. He is that talented! Weber State also has arguably the best recruiting class coming in. Lillard will win newcomer of the year, and Weber State has some good looking players that redshirted last year. As long as someone can pick up the rebounding slack left by Arturus, Weber State will be very tough. Coach Rahe has a good thing going in O-TOWN!
5. MONTANA. This was a tough pick, but I think Montana could be a contender too. Hasquet is back after a dissapointing JR year. He is very very good and probably wants to redeem himself for his SR year. They lose the inside presence of Straight, but have some other decenct big guys coming back. If I remember right, they had some good shooters that were only like Sophs last year too.
6. EASTERN WASHINGTON. They were better last year than I thought. Earlywine is a beter coach than anticipated too. They lose Williams, but had some decent JC players last year that will be better this year. I don't think they can contend this year, but they will win some games thats for sure.
7. NORTHERN COLORADO. They are kind of my darkhorse this year. They are still a couple years away form the elite of the Big Sky, but I think they will surprise some this year. I can't remember names, but I know they have a big guy comingin back who was good and a good shooter too. I could be wrong and they could suck, but I think right around here is good pick for the Bears.
8. MONTANA STATE. Rebuilding year. Usually the bobcats are one of the better teams in the BSC, but not this year. The only decent player they have coming back next year that I can think of is that Mgumbe guy. I thought he was just a decent player too. They lose their PG, and their SG who I thought was the best player in the conference last year too. I don't see them being very good at all in 2009.
9. SACRAMENTO STATE. YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The 2008 version of these clows was awful and I don't see anything that will make 2009 any better. I was embarrased for them last year. It was that bad. I know they had a good Freshamn, but their inside game was horrid and they were Seniors. They have a new coach this year so if they finish above last place, I will be shocked....
