Whew!! Already a lot being written on this one.. I for one think the team got another wake up call and glad as heck that Eags aren't playing a team they've already faced. Think that means the coaches won't be doing any second guessing and can unleash the hounds against Maine based on what on the film. I am apathetic to the needs of the Maine Black Bears and their fans.

You can see a replay of the Weber/Maine contest here, it was a good game that shows what Maine is about.

Eags match up well. Maine presents several problems on defense with outstanding front seven play with good DE's and two excellent LB's. One thing I noticed was Weber's continued blocking scheme where they ignored the DE and blocked down on passing downs, if Eastern does that it will be a long night for EB3. Play smart, understand the strengths of the opponents, make small adjustments and the offense should be the offense. The D more than matches up and getting pressure on their QB should be the priority. None of us get to draw up the gameplan. The players actually believe in themselves this year despite scheme hiccups. There are a lot of seniors on this team.

Eags win their second semi-final and punch the ticket to Frisco. 32-24

Eastern has a great shot to end the semifinal curse. Of course, there have been several opportunities and losses have kept piling up.

The way Maine plays defense, we need our D to hold them to very few points. I felt like the D was pretty average yesterday, and I was shocked to see Eastern run single coverage on Keelan Doss and having the coverguy not be Josh Lewis. Things need to tighten up on Saturday.

Offensively, it was pretty mediocre yesterday until the fourth quarter. Barriere managed the game well, but it would be very helpful for him to commit to taking it upfield when pressure comes. He did it on the last drive and picked up a mountain of yards. Earlier in the game, he seemed apprehensive to do it.

Eastern needs to come out on fire. This is a rare opportunity and the team will not want to let it pass them by.

Sounds about right to me. The seniors have been playing inspired football on the defensive side.

Coverage on Doss was weird. Best guess, coaches tricked themselves. Eags doubled him in previous contest and brought a lot of heat to Maier and took them out of the game. I struggle to let things go until I see that they have been corrected and think this staff, this season has done a good job of making changes for the better, so am going to give them the benefit of the doubt that they'll put in the time, watch the film and draw up an appropriate plan to mitigate what Maine is most likely to throw at them. Plus, cross my fingers. :-)

There quite a few opportunities for improvement and a little more concerned about the offensive play calling. Hope Coach Best greenlights EB3 to run as necessary, roll the pocket to improve time to throw and give EB3 some underneath options (drag routes, delay releases, crossers etc..) and stay true to the running game especially with lead blockers between guard and tackle with possible bounces outside for McPherson> No reason to change what works. Flow has been non-existent on too many drives.

UMaine alum here... our offense is mediocre and we can only win this game if we make it ugly. If this gets into high 20s EW wins it. I say EW puts an end to UMaine’s great run 27-20

Please no more across the field pass plays, I'm surprised one has not been picked and gone to the house. Play downhill and allow the run game to set up the pass, just a thought. Go Eags !

Watched the Weber game and was impressed with their front 7 especially the linebackers. Those dudes are big and physical- but on the slower side. Seems to me that if we can spread them out a bit and get RB/TE/Slot matchups against those guys, we can quickly lose them in coverage. Just a thought.

In the spirit of a prediction thread.

EB3 plays inspired football, 21/26 250 yards, 2 TDs 2 INTs (which keeps Maine in the game), 100 yards and 1 TD on the ground proving he is the chosen one and completes what big play VA and Gage could not.

Special teams scores a TD, Alconbendus keeps his season perfect with a chip shot field goal.

Defense repeats a 4 turnover game to seal the game in the 4th.

38-24 after a late 4th quarter TD to go up.

Merret & McPhereson combine for 250 yards (not sure what the status of Pearce & Custer Jr is).

Maine get's theirs on the ground...because I'm not afraid of that passing attack after watching some film.

EWU favored by 11 and will cover the spread as they done in 11 games this season. Over/under is 59. Look for EB3 to throw some looong passes since he threw very little down the field last game setting up Maine for the looong throws. Maine's losses were to a 1-11 Central Mich., a 5-5 Yale and a 4-6 William and Mary and their 4th will be to a 11-2 EWU team. I'll go with the bookmakers with a score of;

EWU
XXXVI

Maine
XXIV

Now that's a prediction. Nicely done sir. :thumb:

I predict that Maine fans on this board will be compared to Griz or Bizon fans before it's all said and done. Not by me, I don't spend much time on other boards to compare.

Offense was mediocre yesterday, yes, and I was thinking about what we've been missing the past few games as compared to the first half of the season. And it's big plays...big pass plays, to be more succinct. We beat Davis over the top on that TD play to Boston in the 4th quarter, but other than that we just haven't had a ton. Most of our big plays have come on the ground, which is fine. But to really open up the offense I think we need to be hitting more long balls. We also need to get Webster the ball in space more often because we all know what he can do with it.

Impossible.

Lost my mind for a moment. You are of course correct, it is patently absurd to believe Maine fans can sink to the depths of the Griz in a single season.

I suspect this game will be a difficult game for both teams. Maine has the ability to slow down or stop a lot of what EWU does on offense. No one has been able to line up and run a traditional run game on Maine all season and I expect the same will be true on Saturday. In order to run, EWU will need to run out of the QB position on run/pass option plays. Maine also has the ability to make the passing game very difficult for EWU with their relentless pass rush. It will not be easy for EWU to score. That said, if the QB plays well, is able to avoid the rush and make some runs out of pass formations, I do see EWU scoring some points on Maine.

I expect it'll be similar to the game Maine played versus Towson earlier this season. Flacco is better than the EWU QB but I think the EWU QB will threaten the Maine defense in similar ways. They'll score and frustrate the Maine defense at times but Maine will make some big plays to lock in the win. I think Maine will be helped by 2-3 turnovers and 4-5 big sacks.

Maine will score. The offensive line has been playing well. Ferguson will play better at QB than last week. They have enough play makers to make a few big plays. I see Edwards and Jefferson each scoring two TDs.

Final Score
Maine 35
EWU 28

I was looking at their fan forum and they seem very cocky and most of them are underestimating the Eastern team and convincing themselves this should be an easy win for them and that the #3 seed is a pushover and stopping EB3 and Sammy will be easy, but I don't know if they can handle the speed of Eric. But I could be wrong what do you guys think.
