Prediction Thread UCA 14 @ EWU 31 Eags WUN!

FIRED UP! Cannot displace the homer emotions, so going to go with it.

UCA has a "nice" team and they will be aiming to take down the #2 seed for a myriad of reasons from respect to them, Southland, Arkansas, blah, blah, blah. Sensed they will play for each other, the only reason to play on a team.

After watching their SHSU and Redbirds games, nothing jumps out that they do better than EWU. They put the ball on the turf far too much and expect our defense to get 3 TO's in this one. The DL should have a good day against their OL and disrupt Hildebrand in the pocket (can we start doing this early?). Redbird receivers were running free all day and GG will have a good day distributing the ball to our WR playmakers. Eags wear UCA down as the emotion at the beginning of the game dissipates and reality sets in.

Expect the Eags to have over 500 yds offense; 200+ on the ground, 300+ in the air. Shaq goes crazy for 11 catches and 125 yds and 3 TD's as UCA focuses on Kupp and Bourne early. Gubrud plays up to the competition and starts fast. Custer makes a couple of special teams plays to set up good field position. Weather? Shouldn't be a factor as both teams play in it.

Eags BIG in this one: EWU 42 - UCA 17

While I may be hungover from the long holiday weekend, I don't expect this team and these coaches to have any bye week hangover. Beau has this squad fired up and ready to go.

EWU 47
UCA 17

A week off from football was painful as a fan, but hopefully worth it in the end to have a bye and get the guys healthy for the playoff run! I've not seen UCA play, but it sounds like they try and play similar to our style with a little less ability than us. Home field advantage, a week of rest, a cross country trip for them and a hungry group of guys for us will equal a solid W!

Eags - 38
UCA - 24

That sounds about right, maybe we score a couple of additional times.

Man, I cannot wait for Saturday. It's going to be really hard to concentrate on other things this week.

EAGS: 45
UCA: 31

My prediction is that UCA will try to control the clock and keep Eagles offense off the field by run, run option. That will be good strategy IF you maintain drives but our D has developed substantially since NDSU game and will bend but not break. The Eagles will have a 2 score lead by half. In the 3rd qtr they will be forced to pass more and we will get a couple of picks and seal the win by 3 or more TD's
Thats my story and I'm stickin to it!

Some random thoughts about EWU:
- Somehow a team that has thrown the ball 485 times has only given up 18 sacks on the year. Not as good as Sam Houston, but fairly similar. Sam was able to pick apart our defense with those quick passes that didn't allow our defensive line time to get any pressure.

- After the first three games of the season, the only close game EWU has played was the last one against 3-8 Portland State. The Vikings were able to run the ball, control the clock (+9:30 TOP), and "limit" the EWU passing attack to just 304 yards including one interception. (By comparison, even NDSU gave up 450 yards passing in game 2 of the season.) EWU actually trailed Portland State by 7 headed into the 4th quarter before scoring 14 in the final period to win 35-28 on the road.

- Looking at the NDSU and Northern Iowa (who finished 5-6) games, it's not really obvious on paper what they did so well to win/stay close. NDSU was +2 in turnover margin and UNI +1. But there's not a lot similar outside of that.

- The EWU defense started the season giving up 36 ppg thru the first 6 games. In the final 5, just 20.

Big Sky Recap
- The conference had four teams reach the playoffs. Weber State and Cal Poly both go down in round one. North Dakota and EWU had first-round byes.

- The conference schedule also set up nicely for EWU. They didn't face North Dakota or Weber State during the regular season.

There is no way Coop isn't dressing for this game, but I doubt he is involved heavily.

I'm going to make a prediction that this is Bournes game to be a total rock-star, 12 catches 150 yds 2 TD's (1 80 yd catch after a touch back, 1st play of that drive, maybe even first play of the game) and Shaq and Splendorio keep them honest with 6 catches and a TD each.

Custer comes up huge with a run back TD and Tamack comes out as the hammer in the Red Zone.

4 passing TD's
1 rushing TD
1 special teams
Defense only giving 1 TD in 2nd half as the 4th quarter is ticking down.
=
42-20 EWU win
14-13 going into the half EWU

I don't think that not playing ND and especially Weber was "nice" for us. Cost us an outright BSC championship!
