Prediction Thread UCA 14 @ EWU 31 Eags WUN!

Hi guys, and gals, UCA fan here. A little about me, I'm an alum, class of 75, and attend more games than the average fan.

We started the transition process in 2006 and after the 5 year transition have made the playoffs 3 times now. Last Saturday was our second win.

The SLC is the Big 12 of FCS football, rated 5th overall.

It is a spread offense, dink and dunk league with little defense.

Our coach is in his third year and is in the process of making us a more defense oriented team that is more athletic and physical.

I believe he is a year or two ahead of schedule but with guys returning, redshirts, and continued recruiting we will get better. For example, we lose no OL next year and get two starters back who were injured early.

As far as a preciction so much of our chances rest on our ability to run the ball with at least some success, run the clock, and limit big plays by EWU. If we do these things, like we did vs AR State,we can make it a game.

Welcome UCABear,
Are you or any of your fans making the trip? If so please swing in to any of the tailgates going on around the stadium and visit. Most of us EWU fans love to interact and meet opposing fans!

There will be a handfull of us on the team plane. We are staying in Spokane but I'm guessing we will get to the stadium in time to roam around and visit a bit.

As to comparisons with Sam, some guessing here based on seeing some games, reading and our coaches comments: both of y'all have great QBs with your guy being more mobile. I would give receiver edge to EWU due to Kupp while Sam spreads it around but Sam is fast, very fast.

On D Sam might have a slight edge vs the run

It would be a high scoring matchup for sure.
They beat us pretty good but we turned the ball iver 6 times, 4 of them early which took away any chance we might have had.

Not meaning to detract from the game facing both teams this week. We just have a more than passing familiarity with Keeler and SHSU.

Thanks for your insight. Truly looking forward to this one and seeing how our young team handles playoff pressure and good athletes. Know everyone on this board is ready :-); fortunately for Eastern, none of us is suiting up or it would be a sorry showing. Might look a lot like this:

They looked decent versus the red birds, but man the red birds special teams ....especially that blocked punt...that was SAD!

BTW, I was sitting right behind y'alls bench when you won championship in Frisco a few years back
Great game, great comeback.

It was indeed. Keeler had been packing it in all season when the BlueHens had a lead and hadn't faced an offense like Eastern's in the CAA that season (UNH maybe); a couple lucky breaks, one great over the shoulder catch from freshman RB to start it off and Kaufman willing it to happen... the rest was history. My son and I were there and I will be at the game Saturday and not looking for that much drama in this one. :)

Big Double Digit number for a playoff game. ....I will take it but for me unless it is two touchdowns lead in the game I get nervous.

Trekking up to Cheney from the Yakima Valley. This will be my first time back for a game since 2014. Can anyone tell me, can you set up a grill in the general parking lots (p3 and p7) or are they only allowed in the tailgating lots?

Howdy, Eagles.

Been reading up on your team but haven't seen any games so I only know some numbers and what has been said on here. Looking forward to seeing what all the hype is about on Saturday (but not really looking forward to looking at that red field on tv for 3 hours. Y'all need to get some gray stripes.... maybe a bit too WSU though, lol). The Kupp boy sounds incredible, curious to see what he's all about. For someone who hasn't watched him any, what does he do that separates him from everybody else? Always fun to see NFL players at the FCS level. We've got a really good one in #88 Desmond Smith but his numbers don't even come close to Kupp's. Sam Houston St has some guys who can go, but from the sound of things your receiver crew overall might be even better, which is pretty scary after what they did to us. Hopefully our coaches have made some adjustments since then or it could be a long day for the Bears.

To beat Washington State and nearly beat NDSU then win everything else, y'all obviously have a legit championship caliber team. I don't think we're quite there yet. But I do think we have the big play ability on offense, defense and special teams to pull an upset if some things go right. Going to have to take care of the dadgum ball and run it better than we have been, and most importantly force some turnovers and do something with it. Need some points (or at least a VERY short field) from defense and/or special teams. Our great run defense won't be of much use it sounds like, but hopefully our speed over there will limit the short passing game and force Gubrud to beat us deep with high risk/reward throws. That worked fine for SHSU though so our DB's will need to be ready. Hopefully we will change up the formations and have more DB's on the field more often than we did at SHSU. Sure would be good if our DL could get some pressure from the edges and keep your QB bottled up and hurried.

In a best of 7 series, I wouldn't lay too much money on the Bears. But in 1 game anything can happen. So I won't be surprised to see the Bears come away with the upset (of course I've got a couple decades and then some of Bear blood in me so I'm a homer), but I'm not really expecting it either. Heart says 35-31 Bears but head predicts 37-24 Eagles. Damn it.

Exceptional footwork and precision help him get separation so often. He's got laser focus and soft hands with the jumps balls... he comes down with it 95% of the time it seems. He's got a nasty stiff arm and is a very physical runner with the ball... will power up the wazooo. Overall, he's just a master of his craft because he's humble and always hungry to improve. Very fun to watch. :thumb:

Defense gets two turnovers... including a pick by either Fettig or Bruce. Defense or special teams gets a TD. Offense rolls up 450; 365 passing, 85 rushing.
Who'd a thunk it... underpredicted on the yards, overpredicted on the points. I did get the two turnovers, and the pick by Fettig... at the last minute.

Nice job SE. Really thought our defense would come to play, but who thought we would hold them to 244 yards? Incredible performance.
