Prediction Thread UCA 14 @ EWU 31 Eags WUN!

My thoughts exactly. :thumb:

Only 18 sacks with the injuries and youth of OL is outstanding; we had a TE start at tackle in one game and he was excellent. GG had 450 yds rushing this season too.

If the UCA fans are interested.

Posting on UCA fan board. Must read the entire post for effect. Does have cute pic with kid and player as avatar

Some random thoughts about EWU:
- Somehow a team that has thrown the ball 485 times has only given up 18 sacks on the year. Not as good as Sam Houston, but fairly similar. Sam was able to pick apart our defense with those quick passes that didn't allow our defensive line time to get any pressure.

- After the first three games of the season, the only close game EWU has played was the last one against 3-8 Portland State. The Vikings were able to run the ball, control the clock (+9:30 TOP), and "limit" the EWU passing attack to just 304 yards including one interception. (By comparison, even NDSU gave up 450 yards passing in game 2 of the season.) EWU actually trailed Portland State by 7 headed into the 4th quarter before scoring 14 in the final period to win 35-28 on the road.

- Looking at the NDSU and Northern Iowa (who finished 5-6) games, it's not really obvious on paper what they did so well to win/stay close. NDSU was +2 in turnover margin and UNI +1. But there's not a lot similar outside of that.

- The EWU defense started the season giving up 36 ppg thru the first 6 games. In the final 5, just 20.

Big Sky Recap
- The conference had four teams reach the playoffs. Weber State and Cal Poly both go down in round one. North Dakota and EWU had first-round byes.

- The conference schedule also set up nicely for EWU. They didn't face North Dakota or Weber State during the regular season.

I don't think that not playing ND and especially Weber was "nice" for us. Cost us an outright BSC championship!

Exactly, but if we can beat UCA and UND holds at home we'll get our chance to earn an outright championship in the playoffs.

A little surprised no UCA fans have posted a prediction here... Clocks ticking boys. Of course, we are all a bunch of homers picking the Eags or are we on to something. :-) Would love to hear their thoughts on just where UCA is a better football team in comparison. Doesn't look they have taken the time to watch any Eastern games on replay, while many of us have seen 1 or more UCA contests against good competition. Just saying.

Hey Lucky, have you seen any of their home games? They have very few fans and little or no people at their games. I am sure both people on the fan site are very busy.

Love the tone Mr. WiseEagle  Here is something that should get the juices flowing.

The ball hitting the post on an extra point results in a 44-31 VICTORY for EWU!!

EWU 48 (missed xp, per usual)
UCA 20

Defense gets two turnovers... including a pick by either Fettig or Bruce. Defense or special teams gets a TD. Offense rolls up 450; 365 passing, 85 rushing.

UCA has a very athletic defense and I don't see us scoring in the 50's or high 40's on them. Think it will be somewhat lower scoring with a slight edge to the Eagles at home.

Hi guys, and gals, UCA fan here. A little about me, I'm an alum, class of 75, and attend more games than the average fan.

We started the transition process in 2006 and after the 5 year transition have made the playoffs 3 times now. Last Saturday was our second win.

The SLC is the Big 12 of FCS football, rated 5th overall.

It is a spread offense, dink and dunk league with little defense.

Our coach is in his third year and is in the process of making us a more defense oriented team that is more athletic and physical.

I believe he is a year or two ahead of schedule but with guys returning, redshirts, and continued recruiting we will get better. For example, we lose no OL next year and get two starters back who were injured early.

As far as a preciction so much of our chances rest on our ability to run the ball with at least some success, run the clock, and limit big plays by EWU. If we do these things, like we did vs AR State,we can make it a game.

Welcome.
Ditto.

Would be interested to hear your opinion if you have seen any Eastern games on how we stack up to SHSU. I had made the comparison for the game against the Redbirds it seemed like a microcosm Big 12 v Big 10 matchup. We know UCA will give it their all in this game and we have seen a couple of different strategies from opponents this season to slow down the game and have faced several good running teams and teams that have made us dink it down the field; in the end, team depth, size, strength and mentality wore them all down. This team has matured throughout the season, especially after the brutal first three games and hasn't really looked back. Everyone gives Eastern their best shot. Should be a great game at the Inferno. GoEags
