Let the games begin! FCS Playoff's Week 2

Montana @ Eastern Washington

Is there a better field in all the land to play football on? The Inferno Rocks!

What color Uni's this week?

Montana will be aggressive on offense, in the last game, they took some shots down field early and often to open up the run game. In this one, they may be thinking about more read/option with JJ. I, for one, hope so. JJ can't beat the Eag's with his feet. The Eag's front 7 will contain the edge and play disciplined to reduce big misdirection plays and force Montana into many third down situations. The defensive backfield has gotten better with McDonald showing great leadership. Expect to play our "speed" linebackers in passing situations to get good drops and show off their ball hawking skills making it hard on JJ to throw underneath to TE's or RB's out of the backfield.

Offensively, Eastern's balance overwhelms Montana. Stretching the field sideline to sideline against Montana will open the running lanes. Expect Forte, Brown, Wilson and Moore to have a big day.

EWU runs for 250+ and 350+ through the air
TE's catch 5 balls keeping drives alive
VA completes 3 balls over 50 yds and 3 TD's over 30 yds (catch + run).
First play: bubble screen to Kupp, Splendorio and Mitchell get key blocks for 17 yds
Average time to snap 12 seconds a play first drive.

Not sure who Montana is playing for: the old coaching staff or prospective new one. Either way, expect them to come out focused and ready to get after it.

Expect Eastern to play like it's been here before. Depth, talent and experience all tilt in Eastern's favor.

EWU's defense limits big plays and scoring for Montana, Eastern's balance grinds this one out and Montana down. Eastern WINS!!!

EWU 48 - Montana 31

Very much agree with these points. I think Eastern is a more talented team but experience in the playoffs could be the big X factor here. I like the score but think it might be a little closer.

EWU 45 Montana 35

Lets go with all red I have always thought that is the best uniform combo at home. Eagles 41 UM 24. We score 41 only because I see us missing an PAT. GO EAGS!!!

A lot of "homerism" goes into the prediction matrix/analysis for most of us, so let's break it down:

Elements of the teams: (feel free to do your own assessment)

QB -- EWU
WR -- EWU
RB -- EWU
OL -- EWU
Offensive Coaching -- EWU
O Depth -- EWU

Safety -- EWU
DB -- Push
LB -- Push
DL -- Montana
Coaching -- Montana
D Depth -- EWU

Other Factors:
Momentum: Push
Health: Push
Home Field: EWU

Winner EWU 9 - 4 - 2 Go figure :-)

I'm going with the white uniforms and a 46 to 38 win in Cheney.

Love the "whites". Not sure as the home team we can do the all white. Ranger?

Not sure if there's a specific rule against doing that in the playoffs, but I know you can do it during the regular season. When we played Cal Poly in SLO last season they wore all-gold uniforms, and we wore all-red as the visiting team. The white uni's might look pretty cool on the field...interesting idea.

What about Red Jersey, White pants, and White helmets...too Nebraska?

Here's mine:

QB -- EWU -- Four more weeks of healing mean VA should have better mobility than in the first game. Rumors are that Johnson might be hampered by a high ankle sprain.
WR -- EWU -- Montana has some good ones, but we have more. Also, Cooper Kupp.
RB -- EWU -- Canada and Van are great players, but EWU has more depth and should have Forte healthy.
OL -- EWU
Offensive Coaching -- EWU
O Depth -- EWU

Safety -- EWU -- Tevin McDonald is the best safety in the BSC.
CB -- Montana -- Our guys are young and will need to have a great game. Also not a lot of depth there.
LB -- Montana -- Probably close here, but I'll give them the nod. Best front 7 in the Big Sky.
DL -- Montana -- Our young guys have gained some great experience this year, but their starters are better.
Coaching -- Montana
D Depth -- EWU -- Only because we have rotated so many guys on the D Line this year.

Special Teams -- EWU
Kicker -- EWU -- Don't think McNanney has missed a FG since being the starter. XP's are different story.
Punter -- EWU
Return teams -- Push

Other Factors:
Momentum: Push
Health: Push
Home Field: EWU
Playoff experience: EWU

It's going to be all Red jerseys (just to mess with the Grizz) and all eagles on the scoreboard.
43-24

Fair analysis boys.

Montana has momentum and the revenge motive. I also think they have less pressure and are playing with house money a bit. I expect them to come out loose and aggressive.

I can see is winning fairly easy but I can also see this coming down to the wire.

I agree on most of your points Kalm. IMO the game will have a lot of scoring on both sides. Our defense is susceptible to mobile QB's, and read option so they could score more than their average number of points. Our offense is getting healthier and will be more effective than the first game so I do not think they can score enough points to keep up with the Eagles production. While have 2 byes in the last three weeks is good for the body I wonder what it will do for timing and game conditioning.
Our coaching staff will call a better game than Delaney and company.
Eagles by 10

42-41 Griz. Eags miss extra point.

Man, I hope not. I don't think my heart could take it!

Don't sweat it. This team has plenty of heart and it won't come down to a single extra point. Let's see JJ and company try to keep up with the Eagle offense and not blow a gasket. About time for the Griz to hibernate.
