Tyler Hall picked as MVP

2017-18 Big Sky Preseason All-Conference Team

Player Year Pos. School Hometown
MVP - Tyler Hall Jr. G Montana State Rock Island, Ill.
Victor Sanders Sr. G Idaho Portland, Ore.
Bogdan Bliznyuk Sr. G/F Eastern Washington Lutsk, Ukraine
Ahmaad Rorie Jr. G Montana Tacoma, Wash.
Geno Crandall Jr. G North Dakota Minneapolis, Minn.
Jordan Davis Jr. G Northern Colorado Las Vegas, Nev.

Definitely can't argue with those polls. To be honest, I really thought Weber would end below Montana. I was shocked by UNCO being #4 in the coaches. Shows the type of respect Linder is receiving right away. He's a good coach. His team worked their butts off for him last year and will only get better. To me, they were very strong defensively. Issue, like a number of Sky teams, is depth in the post. Yes, there are Franklin Session type rebounders out there, but size matters, especially grabbing rebounds and on defense. Without size, teams get pushed out and end up taking a lot of low percentage shots.

It is really weird seeing a list of preseason players and not seeing any Cats on it. The season will end differently. But, like the polls, can't really argue with the pre-season team.

Sac St's Graves out for the season with injury

Back surgery....
Ouch! That is going to put a lot of pressure on your sophomore and JC point guards, as well as your front court to pick up the scoring slack.

I hope he will be able to recover and come back just as strong. He turned out to be a workhorse last year. :yikes:

He looks like he came through the surgery perfectly....I saw him Saturday and he was walking as normal as ever....the surgery was early this past summer, though I didn't hear about it until later....life is not linear...got to roll with the punches.....

SUU just got a 5 star, 6'8'' forward transfer from UNLV. I don't know if he is eligible now or has to sit a year. VC has him as a graduate transfer and ready to go. I'm not so sure about that. At any rate, I hope he works out for them. They need all the help they can get. Many, many teams passed on this kid. I don't know what his baggage is, but I hope he can help in Cedar City. :yikes:

Good to go 2nd semester and next season Morgan ...surpasses Chapman as the highest rated recruit to play in BSC .rated 15th by rivals and 39th by espn....If he sticks at SU they could have best front court in BSC with him and big transfer from ASU .

SUU is quickly establishing themselves as a second chance destination. Looks like they want to become the UNLV of the BSC. As long as they can handle the inevitable situations, it could be a good thing for them and the BSC.

If he is a graduate transfer, does that mean he is graduating this Fall Semester and planning on joining for Spring only? So, he wouldn't be available until Conference and would only have next Spring, or until after UNLV's graduation in December, to play? A player in this situation is only leaving because of a few reasons. A. His time is getting drastically cut or B. He really liked this coach and wants to continue playing for him.

Last season he only played in 8 games and that was for a UNLV team that went 11-21. His previous two seasons weren't really that great. Nothing to write home about: http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/3137731/dwayne-morgan. He might have been a 4.7 out of high school, but hasn't really developed since. He was decent as a junior until he wasn't able to play anymore (injury? academics?).

this is nice we aren't picked first. is idaho really going to be legit?
Imaho is a legit 7 deep. After that they are all unproven freshmen. They will be very good as long as they have no injuries. Five seniors, two juniors, and the rest are true freshmen. They have one of the best guards in the BSC and some solid players around him. At least 4 of those 5 seniors will start, maybe all 5.
I think they are picked #1 because of that returning talent. IMO, Hanna Montana isn't far behind with the experience factor.

Here is the story on Dwayne Morgan leaving UNLV.

Menzies knew he'd be cut and used the cab altercation as a reason. Pushed out.

Yes. There is definitely something beneath the surface here. I really do hope that he and SUU can get things worked out down in Sleepy Hollow. Dwayne was probably over rated coming out of high school and then didn't progress to his expected potential. Anyway, he must have had some talent and potential back then. Most guys rated as high as him are one and done type guys. Obviously, he was not and may have been unhappy about it. :coffee:

Effort is the key here. Dame wasn't rated very high coming out of high school, but had the potential. He put in the work and had the necessary support. Maybe Dwayne has the potential, he can have all the support in the world, but without trying and doing what is hard, he won't develop.

needs to attend classes til mid Dec than show up at SU and try to fit in....Likely to move on after this season maybe pro ball

To me, the big question is why he hasn't gone pro already? Guys rated as high as him are one and done. If he is that good, at very minimum, he should be in the G league or playing over seas. Somebody over sold this kid coming out of HS. At the SUU level, he could be great. :thumb:
