Preseason Polls

ESPN BSC Prediction...Big Sky

Idaho is hoping last season's momentum, when it won 12 of 15 games before falling in the conference tournament to eventual champion North Dakota, carries over to this season. It should, as the Vandals return their top seven scorers -- and also get back Perrion Callandret, who averaged 14.0 points in 2015-16 before playing just two games last season.

1. Idaho Vandals
2. Montana Grizzlies
3. Montana State Bobcats
4. Weber State Wildcats
5. Northern Colorado Bears
6. Eastern Washington Eagles
7. North Dakota Fighting Hawks
8. Portland State Vikings
9. Sacramento State Hornets
10. Idaho State Bengals
11. Southern Utah Thunderbirds
12. Northern Arizona Lumberjacks

Colo St. coach after 83-79 vs UNC...
Colorado State head coach Larry Eustachy
(on tonight's game)
"That was a great game for us. That team is really, really good and I think they'll win the Big Sky (Conference)

These are the best predictions I've seen so far, although might have to drop UM a bit now without Dorsey.

Speaking of polls, I'm watching UVU with a 9 point lead over #5 Kentucky with 2 minutes to go in the 1st half. UVU plays at #1 Duke next. I'm not feeling warm and fuzzy about the Dec 6 match-up at UVU. I'd love to understand why it takes so long for Rahe's teams to start playing well when other teams seem to be able to figure it out.

You know the answer to the whole scheme, it's been discussed on here many, many times...look for the key words..."we're young", "inexperienced", "conference play is most important", etc. etc.

The UVU shocker score has quickly disappeared, Kentucky has raced back & had a 11 pt lead a few minutes ago...update, Kentucky wins by 10. A moral victory for the Wolverines? At least they take on the biggies & some hope will show well, embarrass the bigs. :thumb: :twocents:

Big Bad UVU loses by 30 to Duke. Could the Kentucky game have been...gasp...a fluke :o

No of course not cause only Randy's teams start off slow and arent allowed to have a bad game

Wildcat you realize that UVU is doing something that has never been done before. Opening tbe season on the road with two games against top 5 teams in a two day period. ESPN embedded a reporter with them this week.

I am not sure that losing to the #1 team in the nation by 30 is worthy of mockery. Especially 24 hours after going toe to toe with #5 Kentucky. Instead of talking about the "Gonzaga model" like we do, UVU is playing anybody anywhere. We dont have single game against a P5 school.

I give mad props to Pope and what he is doing at UVU. Of course I want to beat the crap out of them. But how can we blast them for losing big versus the #1 team in the nation, when Randy doesnt have the balls to even schedule one of those games.

The only thing losing by 30 to the #1 team in the nation does does for us is a nice paycheck. Nothing more. You may get excited about playing Duke but for me id rather play similar level teams and actually have a chance at winning. There is nothing appealing to me about losing by 30 points to anyone.

Besides knowing this board even if we had played a Duke and got beat by 30. The message here wouldnt be "but at least we lost to #1" it would instead be "like usual Rahes teams cant compete".

Maybe this is why i wasnt ready for hoops yet. Barely one game into the season and a game we won at that and already the anti-Rahe crowd is in full force.

I personally would like to see us go to the NCAA tournament with a seed better than 15 or 16. You have to schedule better year in snd out to make that happen. Two of the last three years we have scheduled 3 non D1 games in the regular season. I am not anti Rahe at all. I was commenting that I think you are ridiculous for blasting UVU for losing to Duke when Rahe doesnt schedule many difficult games. Not anti Rahe but stating a fact.

I think we have the bigs the next 2 years to compete well against the bigs from a P5 school. We obvouisly would struggle in the depth department but I would love it as a fan to see us match up against a top 10 program each year in the regular season. As a 15 or 16 seed you are facing those reams in tbe tournament anyway.

I wasnt blasting UVU for losing by 30 i was mocking the people calling UVU the second coming because they stayed close to Kentucky, and then using that as a reason to blast Rahe.

How about you live in reality? Nobody came even remotely close to calling UVU the second coming or blasted Rahe. What UVU did against UK right out of the gate is impressive and had an unheard of 24 hour period. Are you related to Rahe or something? That would explain why you fly off the handle at any criticisms whatsoever. Anything wrong win fans having their opinions on a fan board? Even if you obviously disagree with them?

Is that all you anti Rahe fans ever say? I like Rahe so I must be related to him or be him? that is the stupidest excuse I've ever heard in my life. And maybe you should go back and re read the stupid forum because There were several jabs at Randy because he doesn't schedule the big dogs. Well you know what I don't like watching Weber lose by 30 freaking points. And I don't give a d*** who it's against . The whole point of your post was just an excuse to bash Rahe for one of the most pathetic reasons.

Maybe you Should step into reality. Losing to Duke by 30 points would have done nothing for us in the long run and anybody who says otherwise is delusional. You don't get a higher seed By losing by 30 points to Duke. It's Randy's job to get this team ready to win a Big Sky title not an ACC title.

You're more and welcome to your opinion but I have an opinion of my own as well. You don't have to like it, but I don't have to care.

You wanna watch someone play Duke then go be a fan of North Carolina

Losing at Duke by 30 > Playing West Coast Baptist

I respectfully disagree I'd rather win a game then lose by 30 to anybody and then say "Hey moral victory for us."

Sorry but I'm not a moral victory kind of guy.

Nope Wildcat it was just me and I wasn't jabbing Randy. Just stating a fact. We have pretty soft non-conference schedule this year.

Wildcat- You are getting super sensitive to everything that everybody says. Believe it or not there are some things that the school, staff and coaches can do to improve the program. Playing patsies game in and game may produce W's but will not improve the program. Ask the players, they want to play bigger competition because several of them feel like they were overlooked by the bigger programs.

We need to schedule tougher, because the Big Sky is getting more competitive. Eastern looked decent against Washington last night. The conference already has a D1 road win, imagine that. By PSU of all teams.

Playing tougher competition helps not only now but in future seasons. In 2002 we went to Hilo Hawaii and beat LSU, Wisconsin & Colorado State. After that we fizzled a little bit and ended up finishing 3rd in conference with an 18 - 11 record. But the next season we ended up going undefeated in conference play and received a 12 seed, and got to play Wisconsin again. The players were ecstatic because they knew they could play at the same level as Wisconsin because we had beat them the year before. While you like to blow out NAIA teams, our players like to rise up and play the big boys. Just ask them.

I would rather play another similar level Div. 1 team instead of either Duke or West Coast Baptist. I'm sure the kids would like to play the Dukes of the world but I'd rather not watch my team get beat and humiliated. Honestly I don't care if there isn't a Money schools on our schedule, we play 9 Division 1 teams this year and though yes I would like to see other Div.1 home games instead of WCB, that doesn't mean I would trade a for sure win over a for sure loss. Losing to Duke by 30 does exactly the same for us as beating WCB by 30...Nothing.

And forgive me If I don't get the warm fuzzies for Portland State beating Portland and Eastern Hanging with Washington, last season Portland won a whopping 11 games and went 2-16 in WCC play last year, Washington was even worse, they went 9-22 and 2-16 in Pac 12 play.
