Program Put On Probation

YIKES!! Ouch that hurts. Well, a great basketball coach once said, "The NCAA is so mad at North Carolina (put any Big 5 program's name in here) and it's cheating that they are penalizing Cleveland State for it." THE NCAA is a Paper Tiger, the absolute definition of hypocrisy and an affront to anything associated with honesty and integrity. It is suppose to regulate and support sportsmanship, fair play, integrity, and academia but only cares about the pot of gold found at the bottom of the Big 5 rainbow.

What happened to North Carolina and their academic issues? Far worse than us, and nothing happened. Or Florida State? YIkes a school that allows a QB who is a rapist to play football. Or Memphis and Kentucky where a coach has done just about anything to keep his athletes playing, even paying students to take test for them, but no violations there. Hell, the list goes on and on and on and on...yet, only the schools who are poor and at a lower division are actually ever punished. If it was the same everywhere, then we would have no place to complain, but it isn't and so we have every right to beotch and moan. HYPOCRISY at its most inane.

What is the NCAA planning on doing with the money they are taking away from Weber State? Please tell me it will go into some type of fund that will support education not to help build Mark Emmerts new house.

I hope the scholarships are 3 for each year the school is on probation, and can be used accordingly.

 According to KSL.com article featured, it's 3 scholarships a yr. for 3 yrs...interesting reading the 50+ comments...my bad math education from WSU tells me that = 9. It all seems so unfair based on things...I'm angry enough to want to call up Senator Hatch's office & sig him on the NCAA admin. who only are friends to the rich, big boy athletic programs!

The NCAA gives Unc-Chapel Hill awards for doing much, much worse things against NCAA rules!!! Work out a transfer policy and ship athletes to Chapel Hill, NC for off season schooling. No school in the history of NCAA sports holds a light to the cheating Tar Heels....NONE!! They got national banners and trophies and conference titles full of stains and no one cares. Look it up.

Wow, a reduction in 9 scholarships. That is a huge hit to the program. Hope they can recover from that.
So 1800 athletes at UNC for over 18 years have been cheating and get no punishment from the NCAA but little ole Wildcats have a few kids implicated for far less and we lose 9 scholarships? :wall:

I know some of you probably don't care for me talking about what went/goes on at Unc-CH but what I'm pointing towards is how the NCAA treats schools differently when rules are broken.

Take Roy Williams for example....when he was at Kansas, he had a BB recruit that could not score high enough on the SAT to get in the school, after several tries. Roy (Asheville, NC native and Unc-CH grad and former assistant coach under Dean Smith) had the young man come to NC to take the SAT. I'd have to look up the results to be exact but the young man scored about 500 points higher in NC than he had scored before. When Roy moved to UNC as their head BB coach, he brought his right hand man, Wayne Walden with him to take care of academics. Wayne meant a lot to Roy but his cheating ways left in 2009. When Wainstein asked Roy who headed looking after BB acedemics; Roy named himself first than Walden. Walden is all over the emails about NO SHOW CLASSES and getting them for BB players but Roy says he knew nothing about it.

I think your points about UNC are very good. For me, I just fatigued on the entire subject. The NCAA makes no sense to me. It really seems like they pick and choose their targets and they have an incredibly weak backbone as an organization. Once again, I really think Weber deserved to be punished because of this incidents, but I'm burnt out on the whole process and discussion. This system will never be kind to schools like Weber.

Here's what the Southern Association of Colleges had to say about Unc-CH...

http://oira.unc.edu/files/2014/11/UNC-Chapel-Hill.pdf

Dean Smith got this ball rolling near the end of his career when the small private school down the road started running over them consistently in men's basketball. John Swofford (ACC Commissioner) was then the Unc-CH AD. Jan Boxill (Ethics) who is in it up to her pretty face is still working there.

Former FSU basketball coach and former Maryland basketball coach talking about Dean Smith's time at Unc-CH -

2 or 3 years ago the baseball team had a pitcher who was all but kicked out of school.....Hobbs Johnson from Rocky Mount. They pulled some strings to get him a 3rd or 4th chance and they got him into summer school and by miracle, the young man who had about a 1 GPA, made 4 straight A's in summer school. This isn't just AFAM courses or men's football or basketball....soccer, baseball, women's basketball and more are involved with cheating ways and they self-reported NOTHING! As a matter of fact, under protest the 4th or 5th probe which was by Wainstein, cost the people of NC $3.1 million dollars and now we the people are paying a PR firm $2 million to repair the damages.

Typical of the NCAA to lay down huge sanctions against the FCS schools while the Div 1 schools get away with whatever they want. Great job NCAA. What a total joke.

Unc-CH is a professional cesspool of corruption.

Jo Potuto, http://www.newsobserver.com/2014/11...-review-unc-gets-advice.html?sp=/99/100/&rh=1, is a visiting professor of law at Unc-Ch and she is also hired as an consultant. She was the chairman of the infractions committee at the NCAA.

The current NCAA Director of Enforcement was given her first job in compliance by.... UNC's Director of Compliance! They are very close friends whose emails reveal a "cozy" relationship, as the N&O's Dan Kane put it. They have a number of connections on the inside, and they continue to cultivate new ones, as with this consultant hire. They will be tipped off to what loopholes to exploit in their negotiations, what tricky questions will be coming at the hearing, and what to say/not to say in answer to those questions. Another university might just say "man, we screwed up bigtime" and throw themselves on the mercy of the NCAA. Not Unc-CH; they're cesspool professionals! ESPN's top guy...Unc-CH grad. ACC's commissioner....Unc-CH grad. Head of the 17 institution UNC System....Unc-CH grad. The UNC Board of Governors has always had +50 and normally +60% Unc-CH grads.

Just updating the most egregious cheating athletic program ever in the history of US college sports and they'll spend million$ to fight it every step of the way (many of the Million$ paid in by NC citizens); all started by Dean E. Smith and taken up by many sports in the UNC-CH program.

A unspecified group of UNC Fat Cats are assembling a "war chest" to wage a legal fight against ANY punitive actions against UNC.

It seams like ciscopack is using our probation thread to spew North Carolina hate. Most of us have pretty fond memories of our last match up with UNC on the basketball court. Should we ban ciscopack? I just don't see his information as being relevant to our situation.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I have no idea why he keeps posting stuff about UNC that has nothing to do with us...

I wish your program all of the best. All I was doing was trying to tell people in another section of the country what some schools get by with while others get nailed for much less. I think that's important and I realize the very, very few people who come here are interested in talking Wildcat football....therefore...I won't be back. Yeah....Unc has gotten by with multitudes of things since the 1980's; look up CHEATER in Websters and you get a picture of Unc Athletics. Go Wildcats! I really wish you nothing but the best.

Ooh somebody's a little grumpy huh? Dude. What did you expect? Try taking your UNC stuff to a UNC fan forum. What exactly did you think we would do if you informed us about how another school is getting less punishment than us?
