The lowdown: The Vikings have won their past three games by an average margin of 21.0 points, but PSU coach Ken Bone pressed his players during practice this week to play harder. "I think we're playing OK, but it would be nice to take it another step, because we can get better," Bone said. "The way I look at the game, it just so habitual and you're always trying to develop good, positive habits. It's like you focus on a few things for a few weeks and you get better at those, and then all of a sudden it like, 'Oh, these other areas are starting to slip.' It's that time of year where I think we really need to tighten some things down." ...
Sophomore forward Phil Nelson had 22 points in Saturday's 83-61 victory over visiting Eastern Washington and took over the team lead in scoring, averaging 12.5 points. Junior guard Dominic Waters (12.3 ppg), and senior guards Jeremiah Dominguez (12.0 ppg) and Andre Murray (10.9 ppg) also average double figures for the Vikings. ... At 15-5, the Vikings are three games ahead of the pace they set through 20 games last season when they finished with a school-record 23 victories. ...

Montana junior guard Anthony Johnson (16.2 ppg, 2.7 apg) had 19 points in Sunday's 68-59 victory at Northern Colorado, marking his ninth consecutive game scoring in double figures. Senior forward Jordan Hasquet (10.9 ppg) is second in scoring for the Grizzlies, who rank sixth in the conference in offense (65.7 ppg). ... Last season, the Vikings defeated the Grizzlies 108-56 in Missoula, setting school records for points in a Big Sky Conference game and margin of victory over a Division I opponent.
