• Hi Guest,

We've updated the site to combine all the forums that were part of the Big Sky Fans Network into one location. This will make it easier to navigate and participate in all the discussions for each school without having to have multiple accounts, etc. We are still working out some tweaks but please let us know if you notice anything.

With the migration, in some circumstances, your username could have been merged with one of your other usernames from the other forums. If this is the case, you can request to change your username in your account details page of your profile.

PSU Athletics History

Wasn't sure where to place this thread, but I have an idea. Let's have a thread about PSU history where we can post all-time stats and records. The kind of thread one can reference when wondering where Scott Morrison ranks on the all-time blocks list, for instance. Anybody else want a media guide type forum or thread?

Lets post historical facts on ALL PSU sports

Here's a question - what are the 10 biggest crowds for PSU football in Civic/PGE history? Whatever the numbers, let's try to put some of this year's games on to that list!

I'm sure any playoff games that we have hosted have had great attendance

with JG in town I expect at least a game or two over 10,000

Who are PSU's all-time passing leaders and what are their numbers? I was just thinking that if Howland starts this season, he'd have a chance to get pretty high on this list by playing three years in Mouse's offense.

I know that in the late 70s/early 80s PSU went from Division II to I-AA and then back to Division II. Can anyone explain the history behind this?

Off of the College Football Data Warehouse...

1998-20XX NCAA Division I-AA

Budgets, I believe. Of course, the whole state was overspent, as it was right around that time frame when PSU dropped basketball and Oregon dropped baseball. Actually, IIRC, both Oregon and Oregon State dropped fledgling soccer programs around then as well. It was just a few years later when Oregon dropped swimming and gymnastics and Oregon State dropped track to bring back soccer.

Portland State was nowhere near Big Sky level (even the Mouse Davis teams of the era got plowed by Idaho), and eventually sort of found a D-2 football conference that included Sacramento State, Santa Clara, Northridge, Southern Utah, etc.

The American West Conference, a 4-team football conference that ran in the late-1980s to the early 1990s.

I KNOW my conference alignment history. TRUST me!

Shameful that I don't know this, but where did PSU play basketball in the Freeman Williams days prior to dropping the program? Was there an earlier version of the Stott? I guess a related question is about the Stott. When was it built?Last edited by on 2008-01-15, 10:46; edited 1 time in total

I think that they used to play over at Lincoln High School.

According to Wikipedia, the Stott Center opened in 1965. Not sure how accurate that is...

He played in the Stott, but it was aligned 90 degrees differently than it is now. Instead of the court going East-West, it went North-South. The bleachers were your standard wood high-school style that went up pretty high. I would guess that capacity then was closer to 2,500. The Stott was remodeled around '99 or '00.
