PSU @ EWU: Official GDT

Stats of the game:

PSU 13/17 3rd down conversions
EWU defense, not a single punt forced in the second half
Final drive, PSU converts four first downs and runs 5:38 off the clock

Other news:

At least we seemed to play hard, although not very smart at times. Not sure Hennessy is the answer at QB, though. Time to turn the page on Simba Webster, Jeezus.

The overall season was disappointing, but we didn't play that poorly in this game.

4 turnovers by offense and special teams killed us. 14 turnovers in last 3 games is the story.

I'm nervous for the future at QB when Beau is bouncing back and forth between 3 guys hoping someone will make a play. Hope I'm wrong!!!

When the offense keeps turning over the ball and not moving it, the defense gets tired. The defense improved and the offense got worse this year. If we don't turn the ball over 4 times we win and the defense forces more punts in the second half.

The Defense gave up 52, 57, and 34 in our last three games. The Defense did not improve over the course of the year...I do agree that the offense did get worse.

The defense improved? Did you watch the last drive? Portland State just put it in four wheel drive and ran it up our ass. They converted 5 attempts at third and 10 or more. Portland State would have had 42 if it wasn't for a muffed XP and their mercy on the last drive. Plus, the worst mess of the game when we had them in 3rd and 5 and played a 4-3 and a nickel on the same down and gave it to them for free.

No doubt our offense regressed. That was a possibility when we put in Hennessy today...

My dad and I had fun at the game!

I keep saying it, make sure to be PSU fans for the playoffs, more than anyone else those guys deserve it out of the Big Sky, I hope they get a chance to knock out some MVFC teams and have a shot at the chipper.

RH is a Freshmen who was thrust into a starting role (at times) that hasn't really had a chanc to get into a groove. I'm not saying he's QB1 right out of the gate in Spring ball, but it's hard to make a real assessment of his abilities when we didn't have a great running game this year. Matt Nichols struggled mightily in 2006 when he had to take over as the starter, and he turned out to be pretty good.

They'll put in the work in the off-season and get better.

When the defense allows 13/17 3rd down conversions, the defense gets tired.

In Baldwins defense, I don't think he knew VA was leaving until after recruiting was over. I expect to see a quality transfer highlighted in a high powered offense next season. OL will be very green though.

Love Baldwin, I expect him to find a special teams coach. The pooch kickoffs were feeble at best.

The new defense didn't work. The positioning of LB's on blitzes, deciding which DBs to play, choosing the right defense and coverage for down and distance, and half time adjustments, all seemed suspect. I liked the idea of working in a few more blitzes, and the young DL showed some real talent.

Should be an challenging off season, but I have complete faith in Baldwins ability to right the ship.

Go Eags!

Yeah, I have to agree on D. Just not seeing anything to be excited about there. Todd Raynes certainly played his heart out last night, and now he's gone. We have a couple of young linebackers that we can be excited about. But what else?

I still can't get over that third down where we lined up in a 4-3 and put a nickel package in the secondary. How does Schmedding not identify the problem immediately? Granted, it was third down, so there's about a 75% chance they get it anyway. We just seemed continuously unable to ever make three plays in a row on defense. And it's been that way for years now.

Maybe I'll see it differently in a few days, but right now I'm terribly disappointed in how that season just ended.

Suspect ? You're being too kind. :) . The words that come to my mind to explain this defense are embarrassing, out coached, piss poor coaching, D2 caliper coaching, horrific, pathetic, program defining, and definitely not worth my hard earned money to witness it any further, no thanks. If they roll out this defensive staff or defense next year, I'll spend my money elsewhere (Pullman) I didn't go to ewu, I love watching quality college football, so I will vote with my wallet, and I suspect many others will also. Watching this defense within a facility with high school bleachers is too much to ask a typical fan. I'm Just being honest and I'm not trying to be rude. The defense is that bad and I cannot watch it anymore.

I have one word to sum up your feelings.

Bye.

You just described the steritypical Spokane "fan" in a nutshell! Bouncing back and forth between teams and sports just wanting to be part of something good. I'm sure you're a great Gonzaga fan too. WSU actually sounds like a fantastic place for you.

I'm as dissatisfied and disappointed with this season as anyone else. The D was terrible and the offense regressed in every game until maybe yesterday. But I have complete faith in Beau Baldwin to make it right! He's the best coach in this conference and had earned our respect. Period. If you think otherwise, have fun in Pullman.

Those of us that have paid thousands of dollars in tuition, spend countless amounts of money tailgating since the days of being a student, traveled to road games, and seen the most devastating losses (Towson, 2013) and best wins (too many to count) will be a true fan until the day we die. We'll keep buying our tickets and supporting our student athletes the best we can. This team will be back, and people like you, air, will just keep bitching and moaning and dwell on the negative.

And you my friend sound like the typical small town homer. Fans like you who scared to demand more, will hold this program back. It's pathetic how you Hold on to past success as it's a badge of honor and ignoring the obvious and too stuck on stupid to demand more. If you're OK with just selling out Montana games- more power to you those days will be back and just around the corner with continued mediocrity. it's the "typical fan" you need for sell outs, smart one. It's competition for entertainment dollars, I'm sure one of the claases you took explained those type of facts. :ohno: :ohno: :ohno:

The fan base has many different fans within the tent and you need them all for continued success. So the next time you snap at a fan for his opinion, you might want to remember that some of us are not just happy to be there tailgating and traveling to games- we want a good product on the field. And we have every right right to demand it.

To All,
I attempted to stay away from all the abuses our Coaches Team are having right now. It is very surprising, our Seniors are not being taught about. It feels like I am losing 13 of my Sons after another 5 years. I for one agree with all your frustration, this team and Coaches did the best they could. We lost to an Outstanding Team. I will say Thanks to all Players, and Coaches for another good year, it isn't what I would have like to see, we did it all to ourselves. To you Parents that let us have your sons for another 4-5 years, thanks to all of you. I will continue to be "AN EAGLE 4LIFE" Hope all of you that are frustrated, think twice before you attempt to quit supporting the Team, you could have a Son on the team attempting to do the best they can. It isn't the end of the world, the sun did come up this morning, and we are all still breathing, "THANK GOD" We need to accept the good and bad in all we do. Happy Thanksgiving To All, this Wednesday. I know most of you could care what I do. I will continue to support this Eagle Team. Vic Wallace

air045,
Thanks buddy. Yesterday I met David Delgado, OL #58, Mother, she was freezing. She said this isn't California, I haven't been using my seat, it is very hard getting up those three steps. So I have been sitting up behind the railing, she was given my seat, and she appreciate it very much. I did had some Potato Pie, couldn't wait for Thanksgiving, I ate most of it, now have to go to the Base and get some more Potato. My 5th oldest daughter can make some pies, she will be happy to see the Potatoes.   :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Vic Wallace

You're right Vic. In the end- I'm behind the team as well. I think this board is good therapy! You have a way of walking me back from the cliff, and these boards serve it's purpose for that as well. But I also think it's healthy to vent and challenge each others positions. Heck, a crisis can be healthy :). I'm going to go stock up the liquor cabinet and get ready travel home back to Seattle. I'll try to catch you at a Girls or boys BBB game shortly.

I guess turning the ball over 14 times in 3 games has no impact on a defense. I mean any defense should be able to overcome at least a 5 turnover margin, especially in an offense driven league like the Big Sky :coffee:
