Stats of the game:

PSU 13/17 3rd down conversions
EWU defense, not a single punt forced in the second half
Final drive, PSU converts four first downs and runs 5:38 off the clock

Other news:

At least we seemed to play hard, although not very smart at times. Not sure Hennessy is the answer at QB, though. Time to turn the page on Simba Webster, Jeezus.

When the offense keeps turning over the ball and not moving it, the defense gets tired. The defense improved and the offense got worse this year. If we don't turn the ball over 4 times we win and the defense forces more punts in the second half.

The Defense gave up 52, 57, and 34 in our last three games. The Defense did not improve over the course of the year...I do agree that the offense did get worse.

I guess turning the ball over 14 times in 3 games has no impact on a defense. I mean any defense should be able to overcome at least a 5 turnover margin, especially in an offense driven league like the Big Sky :coffee:

In Baldwins defense, I don't think he knew VA was leaving until after recruiting was over. I expect to see a quality transfer highlighted in a high powered offense next season. OL will be very green though.

Love Baldwin, I expect him to find a special teams coach. The pooch kickoffs were feeble at best.

The new defense didn't work. The positioning of LB's on blitzes, deciding which DBs to play, choosing the right defense and coverage for down and distance, and half time adjustments, all seemed suspect. I liked the idea of working in a few more blitzes, and the young DL showed some real talent.

Should be an challenging off season, but I have complete faith in Baldwins ability to right the ship.

Go Eags!

Suspect ? You're being too kind. :) . The words that come to my mind to explain this defense are embarrassing, out coached, piss poor coaching, D2 caliper coaching, horrific, pathetic, program defining, and definitely not worth my hard earned money to witness it any further, no thanks. If they roll out this defensive staff or defense next year, I'll spend my money elsewhere (Pullman) I didn't go to ewu, I love watching quality college football, so I will vote with my wallet, and I suspect many others will also. Watching this defense within a facility with high school bleachers is too much to ask a typical fan. I'm Just being honest and I'm not trying to be rude. The defense is that bad and I cannot watch it anymore.

I have one word to sum up your feelings.

Bye.

You just described the steritypical Spokane "fan" in a nutshell! Bouncing back and forth between teams and sports just wanting to be part of something good. I'm sure you're a great Gonzaga fan too. WSU actually sounds like a fantastic place for you.

I'm as dissatisfied and disappointed with this season as anyone else. The D was terrible and the offense regressed in every game until maybe yesterday. But I have complete faith in Beau Baldwin to make it right! He's the best coach in this conference and had earned our respect. Period. If you think otherwise, have fun in Pullman.

Those of us that have paid thousands of dollars in tuition, spend countless amounts of money tailgating since the days of being a student, traveled to road games, and seen the most devastating losses (Towson, 2013) and best wins (too many to count) will be a true fan until the day we die. We'll keep buying our tickets and supporting our student athletes the best we can. This team will be back, and people like you, air, will just keep bitching and moaning and dwell on the negative.

+1

Yeah, but you're arguing with yourself, respectfully. No one is absolving our offense or special teams, both of which seemed to get progressively worse throughout the season. But at least our O had a few good games. Our defense didn't have a single statistically adequate game all year. Weber State and Sac State were probably the best outings, but neither was a particularly good performance. The only thing that keep Weber from beating us was inability to make FGs, dropped passes, and silly penalties. They beat themselves. And both of those offenses were statistically awful.. Hell, southern Utah shut out Weber in Ogden.

I'd argue all of the coaching changes not only didn't work, but set us backward. Not one unit improved from last year, and in fairness to the defense, they were the only unit that didn't regress. However, given our defense was dogshit last year, the fact they were dogs hit this year isn't a positive. I don't doubt these guys can coach, but for whatever reason, they aren't a fit at what they were doing this year.

Seriously, shut up with this kind is talk. This "I'm a better fan than you" nonsense is utter garbage. I've been a fan since when most of you were in diapers. I remember seeing Eastern play in front of less than a thousand people in the early 80s. I remember beating NAU at Albi in a rain-delayed game in front of 1,700. I don't give a crap about fair weather fans, bandwagon fans, four-year fans, whatever... We just need fans. Period.

Ever play a game and hardly anyone was there to watch? It sucks. I'll take fairweather fans who only like me when I'm winning any day. Besides, fair weather fans turn into hardcore fans when you treat them right.

When a guy with this viewpoint is sharing his feelings on a message board, I'd advise the AD to think about it. These are people who are ticket buyers and potential donors. Pissing on their ideas is just bad business. For every one person who shares this view on a board, there's probably 200 with the exact same thoughts out there. Losing 200 ticket holders and potential donors is catastrophic for a program like Eastern. We need all the help we can get.

Dopa, I've respected your input on this board for all the time I've been here, but I strongly disagree with the idea of defending someone who degrades our program and threatens to leave for Pullman. That's flat out bull shit!

To call me a small town fan living off the past, you couldn't be further from the truth. But I'm not going to sell my fan hood to someone who is ready to jump ship at the first sign of struggle. This season was unacceptable and I won't settle for mediocrity. I just have faith in knowing this year was a simple blip on the radar.

I especially love the "I don't mean to be rude..." line after the D2, high school stadium, etc rant.

No real fan threatens to leave after one 6-5 season. No real fan leaves because they were treated rudely on a message board.

Every comment is fair game. :dunce:

You probably let a comment from this board ruin your entire day. Poor thing. I think you just demonstrated what a troll is actually is. Congrats

I don't know why this just popped into my head, but is it crazy to anyone else that Jason Belford isn't on the EWU coaching staff? He was a great team leader and player and has good relationships with the staff. Seems weird to see him on the other sideline. I hope he winds up back with the good guys.

FormerEag,
I bought a program for the purpose of having something with our Seniors. I noticed that Malik Roberson, Defensive coach here prior to going to WSU with coach Wullf. Belford I remembered did his best to talk like me at one of the Football Banquet. He was then at WSU doing some Student Coaching, with Weber State with Jody Sears. I didn't know he was at PSU until I looked through the Program on Saturday. Off the subject. Went to the WBB Game today at 1 pm, saw this beautiful Bus with Eagles Logo on it, the Men Team was on their way to Seattle for their game tomorrow. Spoke to Ken Halpin, he stated they tried to get it for the Women Game at GU last week. It is very sharp, if you haven't seen it yet. I even followed it out of EWU Parking Lot admiring the Bus. Swoop is on the back of the bus. I can imagine the eyes on that bus while on the roads. "Happy Thanksgiving" Vic Wallace

Fair enough, I didn't mean to come on so strong. I actually agree with your premise completely; nothing pisses me off worse than seeing some Eastern guy I know post pictures of himself at a Gonzaga basketball game. It makes me want to puke and/or relocate his teeth.

However, we do need to understand that there are other alternatives for people's entertainment dollars in the state. If we aren't offering what the fans want, it's a problem. We aren't in a position where we can lose fans to other programs because we don't have enough as it is.
