After one quarter 7-0 Purdue but should be 7-3, why is York kicking? :(  If this guy is our kicker this season he will cost us a game mark my words. Terrible.

Otherwise team looks pretty good. I love the new uniforms, simple, classy, got ride of those terrible stripes on the sleeves, much better.

Wagoner looks legit, strong arm, calm, accurate basically the exact opposite of the QB the last two years, I won't name names.

14-0 at the half and I have to say we look pretty good.

Props to the secondary they have hung really tough with the Purdue passing offense which has big time explosivness. Hewitt, Wofford, Hayes, and Michon have all made plays.

D-Line looks tiny comapared to the Purdue O-line but we do get some pressure when we blitz Sarmento.

This new punter is making me nervous, he basically wiffed on one punt and it went about 10 yards sideways, also, so slow to get ride of the ball he makes Medoza look super quick. I mean come on dude...

Between the punter and the placekicker it's going to be a long, frustrating season in the kicking game I have a feeling.

It seems like an opener last week against an in state DII school could have cleaned up some of these special team/ snapping issues...

I had to turn the radio off an listen to the Big Ten announcers - i couldn't take it anymore. I wanted to stick an ice pick in each ear!

ok, can't listen to the Big Ten guys anymore either. Good drive by the offense -nice running back production to cut it to 35-10.

I think we'll match up much better against our own level this year. This is the most physical Bears team i've seen in years. I'm thinking we can win 5 games this year.

Pretty good overall, I'd give them a B.

Pros: Waggener is legit, Chesla was open all day, Muns should be starting, he actually broke a tackle which neither of the other guys can do, secondary held strong all day, Saramento was stout, Caprioli of WR's stepped up I thought.

Cons: SPEACIAL TEAMS... where do I start, can York only get the ball to the 20 on K.O.'s? Please tell me that was some horrible strategy and not his actual leg... I put that blocked punt on the long snapper, he was all over the place all day, however, the punter looked like a deer in the headlights out there, I hope he's not on scholarship... York 1 for 2 on field goals which I might forgive but he was terrible last year also, why wasn't Bigelow kicking field goals? He was there, he kicked off once... :x

Other than that being totally over matched we looked way better than we have in a few years. Much fewer mental mistakes and misques although we did seem to wear out in the fourth quarter but that's not a surprise.

Why on here ripping on Troy? That's bush league, what have you never listen to a UNC game on the radio before? He's only been the play by play guy for what, 5 or 6 years now?

Why do you assume that ii'm ripping on Troy? Do you think that Troy sucks? I was actually refering to the "color" guy, he sounded like an undertaker on prozak. I have a hard time believing that they can't find a better 2nd man in the booth.

I'm not sure how to take this game. Waggener looked like our best QB since McGuffey back in the 90's and our offense looked the best it has in a long time but the jury is still out until I see them start punching in some TD's. Our D looked pretty good too but they were really placed in some bad situations by our special teams.
The special teams was horrid and will lose a lot of games for the team this year unless they improve. There was no blocking during returns and the punter was pathetic. While the kickoffs didn't look very good, the kicker might be ok as far as making field goals and PAT's.

I'm thinking that we could win five games this year but I wouldn't be surprised to see another one or two win season.

OK fair enough, I never knew KFKA to send a second annoucer to away games so that's why I assumed you meant Troy but I guess that has changed. I know the guy last year has left so I have no idea who the second guy is now so I'll have to check that out.

There are definitely things to work on for the Bears this season, especially on special teams, but this game was SO much better than the Hawaii game last year. After the last two seasons, I had to keep reminding myself that we were playing a Big Ten team and not a Big Sky team.

I am guessing Bigelow is hurt again, that's why York is playing. I am worried like the rest of you about special teams.

I didn't catch most of the game, but it sounds like Waggener is going to be something special for us. Muns should start?

We need John Eddy back on the d-line, hopefully he heals up soon.

I don't know about Muns starting, let's remember that he played against Purdue's backups for most if not all of the time he was in there.

John Eddy is needed.

Our special teams suck, but IMO it's easier to improve special teams quickly than offense or defense.

The Bears looked much better today. Offense and Defense palyed much better than the score. Waggener is the Real Deal. The Offensive Line is much improved, Thornbrue and McGraw did great today. David Woods and Andy Muns ran well. Ryan Chesla is AMAZING and we will need him all year. Defense was much improved, Purdue just had too much speed. Matt King and Max Hewitt played well, as did the entire Defensive line. John Eddy was missed, he was walking the sidelines but not in pads. The special teams did suck. York is terrible, to miss a 27 yard FG and barley make the 2nd when the game was over is unacceptable. His Kickoffs can't even make it to the 20 yard line. You could see Bigelow walking the sidelines, he was limping noticable, and was not expected to play. Even at 30 % he is better than York. The Punter had some good kicks then the snap went bad and the wheels came off the punting game. Special teams will have to improve, not sure when Bigelow is expected back, Troy do you know?

I like Bigelow and he's good, but I've never known a place kicker that get's hurt so many times like him. If he can't go, we need to put priority one in #1 recruiting a place kicker next year because York is horrible.

Eddy's knee injury should allow him to go in two weeks...Bigelow is still fighting some of the effects of the weight room injury he suffered last year. York did beat him out with a strong early performance in camp. The missed FG came more from a bad snap than anything. If you watch the play, York is holding up, waiting, for the ball to be placed. Awkward. That kicker battle could go on most of the year.

"Why do you assume that ii'm ripping on Troy? Do you think that Troy sucks? I was actually refering to the "color" guy, he sounded like an undertaker on prozak. There are plenty of items I've already got listed to work on for myself, but a review will take place, because this is a teaching tool as well as an on-air broadcast.

As for last year's guy, Chris Ott took a f/t time job as a manager at Jay's Bistro in Ft. Collins, which eliminated his ability to work weekends with us. He did tell me yesterday he was hoisting one at "Tour de Fat" in honor of how the guys played.

There are a couple of good photos on the Purdue site of the game at this link:

It sounded like this was a good effort and we should be a much better team this year.

Honestly I find it difficult to believe York beat Bigelow out for the job. I'm guessing Bigelow's injury allowed that to happen, in fact I'm guessing Bigelow is in a wheelchair because that's about the only way I could see York beating him out. Also, look at last year, York was what, 1 for 4 on FG attempts, and missed about 6 extra points (or were all those bad snaps?) the guy is terrible. If he's the kicker this year we're screwed.
