Question for Glanville Supporters

What would it take for you to conclude that Glanville needs to go? I can understand people saying that he'll turn things around or that he needs more time, but at some point, even those lines of logic hit a deadend. If you think he needs more time, then how much more time? If this losing continues, then at what point would you say that he's had enough time? Another year? Two years? Five years?

I really don't mean for this to be an attack on Glanville's remaining supporters. Rather, I'm trying to have a rational dialogue about the direction of the program.

For me, I was okay with the losing the first two years because at least Glanville was selling more tickets and helping to raise money and awareness. Now, he's not even doing that anymore, so I think we need to move on.

I would think he should be at least .500 in his third year, so we'd have to go 5-1 for him to get there. That's a tough road given what we've seen so far and the injuries that are starting to mount up. On the flip side, he's only had two recruiting classes since he was hired after recruiting.

However, the numbers don't lie. Worst start since we joined the Big Sky. That's not moving forward, that's moving in the other direction.

I'm not sure if it's JG or his choice of staff. Some things are very questionable like play calling in the red zone. How about situational plays like the one we could've won if coaches would remind players to knock the ball down. Sitting players for bad plays is also demoralizing, coaches seem to offer no consolation. Just observe the other games. Coaches are immediately offering support at every level in every sport. Not looking good any way you look at it.

JG has made some real eccentric, bizarre moves. Two of them are not naming Offensive and Defensive Coordinators. I think that Kevin Strasser left PSU because he was asked to split OC duties with Craft. That is rather insulting for a guy at this level in his career with OC experience in the CFL. No wonder he left.

I think having no DC hurts too. JG doesn't trust anyone. If he had named a DC then he could have focused on the HC responsibilities.

I don't think any of his eccentric decision making will change. I personally think we have to cut bait. Unfortunately, he won't resign and we can't afford to fire him. We are stuck.

The main thing us viking fans don't know is exactly how Glanville wants things to be. We all know the old saying "The eyes in the sky don't lie." My fellow fans, you see it for yourself, terrible play calls, untrustworthy of his players, has a leash on all his coaches & NO RESPECT for anyone other than Mouse Davis (and we see he figured out what was going on and "retired"). It all starts from the very top of the pyramid, the head coach is disrespectful, rude and untrustworthy to his coaches & staff. Therefore the coaches react to the players the same way, disrespectful, rude, and untrustworthy. The players then react to their own teammates the same way, disrespectful, rude, and untrustworthy. Have you all ever noticed the demeanor on the sidelines? Watch the teams demeanor when something bad happens on the field, all their heads go down, coaches included. What happened?! Everyone is afraid of GLANVILLE! No body wants to disappoint him, coaches included. They realize this self-proclaimed man of clout could be their meal ticket to a higher paying job and for players a chance at the NFL.

PSU football has gone from playing COLLEGE football to SURVIVING Glanville's eccentric & detestable representation of NFL football. Lets remember Viking fans "Your not in College anymore, THIS is the NFL." I'm sure we all can agree that this is NOT the NFL.

We allowed an aging old man in all black clad with a cowboy hat to come into our town, take our hard earned money, and secretly laugh in our faces. Glanville doesn't loose a bit of sleep over the team loosing. I'm sorry Glanville supporters but what we thought was a good thing really showed us how influential a loosing NFL coach can be on a city that severely wants its football team to be appreciated and supported the way it deserves to be. There is WAYYY too much talent on these teams, year after year, and the VIkings have never been a product of loosing. I cant give up, Fight Hard Viks!

Since we're "stuck" with him until the contract is up (after next year, right?) let's see what they can get done in the next 17 games. If things aren't better by the end of next season, then we look to part ways. I just have this horrible feeling that if 1 pass was knocked down, instead of completed, the season might have a really different feel to it.

I know nothing about his interactions with players or staff. But, I have a really hard time believing that anyone on this board cares more about the Vikings winning and losing than JG does. This has got to be killing him. It seems like you can even see it in the change in his demeanor during interviews. If he only wanted money, couldn't he make more money, with less work, doing nfl commentating?

It amazes me that a coach who took two NFL teams to the postseason, posted playoff wins with both teams and is still regarded as one of the best defensive minds in the history of the NFL is not enough for some Portland State fans.

JG had to completely reshape the roster with players who fit his offensive and defensive schemes. It takes time, a minimum of fives years.

Portland State and its fans should consider themselves lucky to have a coach of Glanville's caliber. Having followed his career since the 70s, I know what kind of football coach he is.

As far as complaining about assistants, if the school would pay assistant coaches a half way decent salary, maybe more would be interested in coming to the school. The pay is downright awful for assistants.

We had an excellent coach before Glanville. Maybe not Glanville's caliber, but at least we had winning records and didn't lose games to Sacramento State. I agree that rebuilding takes time, but a coach should also be able to work with what he has. Mouse and JG tore everything apart, and now JG has trouble putting the pieces back together.

The primary objective was not a Big Sky title. The primary objective was and has been to get people to the games, and we are failing miserably at that EVEN THOUGH the athletics department has been doing a fine job marketing the games. And why? Because PSU football is frustrating and painful to watch.
